For all the cooperation between Daytona and Le Mans I’m surprised the differences between classes can be so big. A lot of teams this year switched to running their lmp2s in the imsa schedule due to FIA discontinuing the category.

It’s mainly because IMSA runs different cars for different rounds, plus more pit boxes stateside, PLUS a smaller top class.

the only major differences in the LMH and LMdH classes are the hybrid system and the chassis, other than that everything is the same. the only reason LMdH is the way it is is for cost reduction.

I would have liked to see more compromise between LMH & LMDH rules. From what I've seen so far LMH has the advantage over LMDH even with BoP. Happy to see convergence between, but they never seem to get the formula right.

Le Mans 24hr will have LMP2 class and ELMS which is an FIA/ACO series uses LMP2

2:18: The race has also evolved over the last 20 years from a race with high levels of mechanical breakdowns and a strategy of conserving the car so it can last 24 hours ( not going all out) to one where with advances in technology and universal use of 3 or 4 drivers in each car ( through the 1970s, most teams ran only two drivers) the cars now go out all for 24 hours, without a fear of the car breaking down. It is like running 24 One Hour Sprint Races.

WEC was utterly lost and IMSA needed the P2 concept, so they make perfect partners. The LMDh cars are based off WEC's P2 class, and since they had the manufacturers, it made sense for IMSA to add a hybrid to appease the WEC and it made sense for WEC to allow those cars and those entries in. The big problem is there is not enough room for more and there are not enough cars available. Both series are capping entries and even Porsche is tapped out servicing customers.

There are three significant differences between the races. First is that because of the differences in the time of year when each race is held, the Daytona 24 has much more running in the dark, about 13 hours compared to about 8 for LeMans. The second is Daytona is a shorter course with a relatively long tight infield section. Negotiating traffic is much more difficult and mentally taxing, especially for the drivers in the fastest prototypes. With the tighter quarters, there is a much higher chance of collisions between cars. Third is unfortunately at this point, the top team and "big dog" everyone wants to beat in LeMans and the WEC, Toyota has chosen so far not to participate in the US race. We can only hope this changes some time in the future.

@@christheradar I’ve driven the Ligier JSP3 around the 24-hour layout in Project CARS 2, and it’s a total blast to drive in such a car. You can go through the Flugplatz at full throttle if you get the setup right, and easily do the run from the exit of Bergwerk to the hairpin Steilstrecke hairpin without needing to touch the brakes. I’ve even smashed the 8-minute mark around there in a qualifying session in the JSP3. It would require a softer suspension setup to deal with the bumps, but it is possible to drive an LMP3 around the Nordschleife portion.

1:39: There are NOT 38 corners on this track. It is inaccurate hyperbole, probably created by the ACO or a marketing hack for publicity purposes and republished on the WEC website which then leads to it getting on Twitter/X where it then becomes a False Truth. This map comes to about 25 corners at most and even adding a couple of minor kinks that don't show up like maybe on the run down to Indianapolis and on the start finish line straight, still falls shy of 30.
