I respect the care and respect you provide the boat. Small things do matter and it always amazes me how many people let maintenance go. Yes, boats and boat stuff a(repairs and parts) can be costly but much more expensive if you just ignore and let it go. Respect the effort.

Love all your videos, and hope to be your Seattle area neighbor one day in the future. Thanks again for another great episode, my take on guns on boats is too much drama we all have fire extinguishers on board, pirate steps on board you let extinguisher off in their face, they cant breath, they can't see, and if they keep coming you smash them over the head with it, then quietly slip them over board, problem solved and it's not classed as a weapon in any country. Cheers from Australia

You all may need to explain, for those who aren't familiar with the Seattle area, the difference between a floating home and a house boat.
@johnmariatucker97073 жыл бұрын
Houseboats were or still are capable of self propulsion (designed to be a boat). A floating house is similar to site built homes only with a floating structure underneath such as logs/ pontoons. Generally you can slip a Houseboat at a marina. Floating homes require a F.O.W.R. PERMIT from city of seattle. These permits alone can cost up to 200k. Hope this helps a little.

Me personally I think floating homes are the best places to live anywhere. Let’s face it your home is always waterfront and unlike a traditional home, if you don’t like the view, you can always change it! Weather is getting warmer here in east coast and seeing a lot of people getting boats ready for boating season.

Great content.. curious as to cost of fuel your spending a month as part of the life style. .. ever look into starlink for internet while out on the water? I’m looking to one day take the jump into the cruising life style and I’m eating all the info I can as I learn and practice as well as decide the type of vessel I could live on verse a casual use. Good luck on the continued journey.
@Leosarebetter3 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick, If you are looking for long term liveaboard, power vessel, go for a displacement vessel with preferably single screw. The slower revving the better. (Twin screw is fine but remember the double cost of running) Take a slow revving engine in say a 49 footer, with careful management you would probably burn around 14 to 16 litres per hour at say 7 to 8 knots. Lets say you cruise for 120 hours that month (5 x 24 hour days) at say 8 knots you would cover roughly 960 Nautical Miles. Your 120 hours by 16 Litres per hour is 1,920 Litres, at say $1.20 per litre = $2,304 fuel costs for that journey. (change the $ value to your local prices) Plus general maintainence, regular serving every 500 hours? marina fees etc etc. Burning through 50 to 290 litres per hour is great...if you can afford it, but for most it is not practical. Exceptions would be a Seahorse running 2 x 4cyl engines. Burning litres per hour (gallons per hour) is going to be your "boss" as to how far and how often you get underway. Hope this helps, all figures are just rough estimates of course.
@nickwalker74783 жыл бұрын
@@Leosarebetter great information...what are your thoughts on these new all electric boats..or even refitting say a 10 yr old boat/cat with all electric/solar.
@Leosarebetter3 жыл бұрын
@@nickwalker7478 Great, but the technology is not quite there yet in smaller boats. I believe that new battery/charging technology is about 2-3 years away which will change a few things for the better. If you refit (Elec) into boat - there is a ton of additional things required, its not like an old school engine swap. If I were to do it i would chose a cat hull, easier to drive thru the water etc. smaller motors etc.
