Barton might deny he is a grifter, but I deny he was a footballer.

My favourite memory of him is when he came up to Scotland expecting to boss the league, made 8 appearances where he was terrible in all of them and ran off back to England within 6 months, blaming the quality of the league for his failure.

Without the attitude problem he would have been a lower Premiership/Championship midfielder and a footnote of the last 15 years following a respectable career.
@A-se2ur

@southstandboy that’s being generous, to the point of falsehood. For a so called premier league player he was of average technical ability and only really especially proficient at running about and winding up opposition (and his own team). If Barton was not a complete wrongun narcissist with an ego almost as large as his voided skull, he would be in the long list of obscure footballers forgotten by all but the most hardcores. He never made his name for his football ability, nor for his insights either, but that’s a different matter.
@southstandboy
@southstandboy 11 ай бұрын
@@A-se2ur He did get in an England squad (although he only played 12 minutes) and enough clubs seemed to be happy to employ him. As I have heard in another video today he was something of a poor man's Roy Keane and he was just about in the era when you could be an enforcer. I agree he won't be remembered primarily for his football ability though.

Plus, Alfie, I am still hoping to see a video about how Kazakhstan fuelled sportswashing worldwide. Its move from AFC to UEFA in 2002 has been cited as the 21st century's first sportswashing case given Kazakhstan's authoritarian and repressive methods against its own citizens, and UEFA's inability to address this matter proved fatal as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Russia and Azerbaijan took up the Kazakhstan playbook to do the same evil businesses as we see today. It's a working class sport. A lot of footballers have no academic qualifications and only a primary education, which isn't the only reason for falling for them, but more often than not it is this class of people who are more likely to fall for conspiracy theories. Outside of the time building their careers some are likely to fall prey to the sea of misinformation on social media. Influencers and popular podcast hosts like Joe Rogan have perpetuated lies in our modern day culture wars. Often hysterical and totally at odds with reality. Hi, would you consider doing videos on the abuses in women's football? Whether that be the Spanish women's national team, Luis Rubiales, and numerous others? Also, I think a good video could be made on the presence of independent academies in Africa, for instance, the impact they are having, potentially developing better players in those countries, such as the Right to Dream academy, and the impact it could have on the European clubs linked to these academies, such as Metz and Generation Foot, and Right to Dream and Nordsjaelland?

Beautiful and well thought-out and paced video like always. I think footballers are a prime example of "Labor aristocracy" as Karl Kautsky proposed more than 100 years ago. These players most of the time come from the most impovireshed places and/or countries so they usually share a background of low education (specially in economics and history) and a of course a sense of "new richness" that they will try to protect. Because of this and thanks to social media feedback loop of confirmation bias and desinformation, the one that specially comes from far-right actors, makes a damper on how these players understand their reality and its surroundings, because they usually spend all of their youth pretty isolated from the world. These players, mostly without knowing, are tools of fascism the same as fascism is a tool of capitalism to suppress the worker movement (Socialism of the fools, like you pretty adequately quote in the video). It's pretty sad, because alot of these players seem like pretty decent people, but sadly end up eating up all of these conspiracy theories and right wing bullshit that are designed to keep down and poor most of these footballers own families.
