Number 1 reason - As soon as a working man or woman leaves office at designated 6pm or 7pm , they are shamed. No time. No freely accessible, sports amenities, , if they are then its super expensive clubs for only rich & elites. Public swimming pools is like pee pool.

Working out has never been part Indian activity EVER. I ran 1500, 5k, and 10k in school and college, and when I was with other athletes and ran for practice, we were ridiculed. The culture is slowly changing, hope for the best. However, there is not enough infrastructure in place so everyone can participate.

True. If you login for work at from 6 AM and log out only by midnight, there’s no time to exercise. India is the land of cheap labour and the leaders are supposed to make their teams slog like anything to achieve and exceed their own key result area of getting the work done for a lower monetary cost but, well, nothing comes free. The juniors end up bearing the cost by being physically inactive and bearing the consequences thereof.

There are no places to do running or walking without constant fear of being hit by some vehicle in majority of cities…secondly north india is hot above 35C for more than 6 months…there is very small window for going out for running…also not everyone can afford a gym and commute to gym on daily basis…

If there is a will there is always a way. Asking why Indians are physically inactive, is like asking why people are lazy. It's all in your mind, your attitude, and your desire to live a long and healthy life. Such an attitude calls for self-discipline. There is no shortcut to a healthy and fit life.

I understand your POV. But in most metros or metropolitans the travel to workplace exceeds 60- 90mins . It maybe due to traffic or the distance from one's residence. Add the work culture where 10 hrs working hours is considered normal. Be on time for work and reach home just on time for dinner , motorbikes are convenient and economical option. Idea is taking out time for workout but an average working Indian gets 6-7 hrs of sleep after 2-3 hours of travel , 10 hrs of slogging at their workplace. In mumbai you leave home at 8am and get back home by 9pm . So who's to be blamed here?

We Indians better know that, its very hard to change our mind set and engage in daily physical activities -- most us have excuses and prefers to pay for medicines. So i think its better to invest your money in pharma stocks. -- Almost people say this "atleaat kha pee ke marenge" or "marne se pehle shanti se khane de". Sadly, its very hard for Indians to bring some permanent change .

Where should I go to work out in 40-50 deg C temp. We have 3 big parks (1km diameter) which are 4 km away. But the crowd is really too much compared to the greenery. The roads to reach there are super dusty and crowded for a two wheeler. And I am living in a good area. Rohini Delhi. People litter everywhere, making the parks dirty. Dusty air. The school punish kids for physical activities and tries to make them sit on a flat wooden chair 6 hours a day. Property rates are so sky high compared to the conditions, that any taxes on them are higher also but still poor areas do not contain any play area. Good areas like mine have crowds and they still lack enough space, peace and greenery where a person would like to have too often. these things destroy the motivation to exercise

On the ground level, people think it’s a great thing if they don’t have to go through physical activities and that’s what a comfortable life is. Toxic work culture in India... It's very challenging in India for a common man to meet his daily needs... Most of the people do a lot of exercise to reach their workplace and return home.. Example,- See the Mumbai local train Crowd...it's the same in all Indian cities

From my personal experience, I can confidently declare that a combination of exercising and walking is vital for staying healthy, especially as the age advances. Spare one hour a day for both, so that you stay health for the other 23 hours!

My excuse for today is it’s hot, so canned my Pilates class. I am on the active side for sure but my eating habit needs a lot more work. 35hrs a week on social media, no way that’s a full time job then.

Gyms are expensive Gyms are far from where we stay not wveryone can afford driving a car to the gyms No proper cycle lanes or parks for cycling Lack of clean parks where we can excercise/jog No proper pedestrian lanes to run/jog. Healthy food options are expensive. Work constraints.
