So he had to go otherwise he could dispose of Isaac in order to inherit everything belonging to Abraham. He mocked Isaac at the weaning ceremony, it was the last straw. No wonder Ishmael grew up angry toward his brothers and probably toward his father too. Just as prophesied.

I think the despair prior to Isaacs birth may be a bit exaggerated here. Is there scripture that bears this out? I would expect Sarah was actually raising him until she was pregnant herself. She then became protective of Isaac’s birth right, which was God’s will. Let’s read actual scripture and know.
