New Zealand banks like to promote themselves as being strong, trustworthy and, above all, secure. So why are ordinary Kiwis losing hundreds of millions of dollars each year to increasingly sophisticated banking scams?
We're all told to be careful online, but we hear from those swindled out of their lifesavings, who share the gut-wrenching moment they realise they've been scammed.
They say the blame lies with banks, while the banking industry claims it's doing all it can to protect its customers from scams.
Are there weaknesses in our system? And what needs to change?
