Great video Mark! Probably the best explanation I have ever heard as to why the boat tail hollow-point is such a consistent round. For taking whitetail out to 400yds, I have found the 150gr Sierra boat tail hollow-point gives me the best combination of accuracy, consistency and terminal performace in my .270 Win. Thanks for another interesting presentation Mate! Cheers to you and Sam!

Mark, I want to thank you for teaching me something new today. I am guilty of honing the tips of my ELR hollow-point bullets down to a consistent roundness, always weighing each round to make sure that their weight was always equal to each other. I had no idea that the speed of the rotation would do it better for me. I was probably causing some erratic flights of my bullets. Never too old of dog to learn a new trick. Thanks for the great information.

I swage my own bullets and I learned something here. Good stuff! The real beauty of the flat based hollow point is that it is probably the easiest bullet there is to make. Easier than a soft point. It all makes sense, but my ELD-Match BT bullets have a plastic tip that appears to negate everything you just explained. I though it was related to the improved inertia by removing mass from the center. -- In calculus terms, the inertia of a spinning washer vs a spinning disk integrated over the length of the projectile.

Good video I hope some of these people that have learned what they think they know about gun's & ammo from youtube that don't know crap. Can we normalize calling them Open-Tip and not Hollowpoints? I see too many people online that don't understand the difference. If it's marked as hollowpoint or they see the little hole in the tip they think they are getting hunting ammo that will expand. I wish people would differ between the two..... great information and a explanation about them though.

Very interesting! How does the polymer tipped bullet fit this bill? Some of them are called balistic tip. I know thats hunting ammo. But will a hollowpoint bullet have better Ballistics then a polymer tipped? Some manufacturers argue that the tip is for fast expantion. Maybe terminal balistic tip would be a better name for IT?

Hey Mark, as much as I enjoy watching you slap steel at extreme ranges; videos like these are a pure joy. I really enjoy the statistics and knowledge part around this sport we love. And your delivery of information, is always well done.
