This was VERY helpful. I just came home and found 3 claws in the carpet. I was immediately concerned and asked my dad if the cat was meowing a lot, perhaps in pain. Thankfully it wasn't and your video put me at ease. We do indeed have 2 scratching posts for him, one small and one with multiple ones built into a climbing frame. He used them as soon as he became comfortable with us which is always a relief after a day or two of hiding after being introduced to a new home. I'm dreading the day I would have to trim his claws but he's soo affectionate now in just his 4th day with us :D

I’ve seen partly detached outer sheaths and thought sheath shedding was natural- thank you for the confirmation and the education on the importance of nail trimming 🤗

I find as I trim nails a nail or 2 that hasn't shed. They don't really like it but I take a thumbnail under then nail and it pops off. It's uncomfortable for the kitties, but I don't like to see it build up. I'll find it on paw thumbs that may not hit when they sharpen their nails. Thank you I appreciate the info. Love your channel😻

I was hoping they would address this in the video. My senior cats look like they have sheaths that need to come off and I wondered if this is something that could be done at home. However they HATE when I trim their claws and they try to nip at me to get me to stop. So I usually just take them to the vet.

It cracks me up how sedate and gentle cats always are in these videos. My 17.5 year old cat will still turn into the tasmanian devil when I try to trim his claws. And the 16 year old tries to bite me. They are otherwise super loving and cuddly cats. LoL

I had a cat that bit his own nails. I wonder now if it wasn't an anxiety thing?
@SeniorCatWellness2 жыл бұрын
It's certainly possible. Anxious cats can tug at their nails and pull out large chunks of fur.

my poor old cat got arthritis in her paws during her final year to a point she couldnt retract them and they stopped shedding, so even though I dont tend to clip nails it had to be done for her comfort and mobility.

My cat scratches his scratching post almost every time he sees me wake up in the morning or come home from work. I often step on the shed claws whenever I walk by. Ouchee they hurt !!!
