✍Hello Tammy and Chris and fur babies🐾🐾🐾 I've been making "not Sloppy Joes" for over 61 years yes I'm 79 and still love them. When I'm Browning my ground beef I add some oats and let them brown together it takes up a lot of the moisture and stretches the amount of meat also, then I use lots of onion that I put in my little chopper (similar to yours) and use an envelope of McCormick sloppy Joe mix for seasoning and 1 am can of tomato paste and just a small can of water and cook the rest of the ingredients all together. Really good on hot dogs 🌭 When I cooked them for our shooting club the guys really loved them cause the "not sloppy Joes" didn't make a mess in their hands when eating. When my oldest daughter graduated from high school ('82) I had a party for her and I made these "not Sloppy Joes" and my nephew ate 9 "not sloppy Joes" my mother-in-law called me a few weeks later wanting to know how I made them cause my nephew was wanting her to make my recipe !! I love how it stretches a recipe just like meatloaf. Hope you try them some time. Good Night😴 God Bless LuvYa! Bye from Ohio🌹

Pro Tip: When I'm eating a messy sandwich such as a sloppy joe, juicy burger, etc., I cut it in quarters instead of in half. It's a lot easier to handle that way.

A suggestion for less sloppiness for kids or adults who hate messiness. I call it a sloppy Joe bowl. You take the bun cut it up or rip it up place in bottom of bowl put cheese or whatever you may add in. Then put LOTS OF SLOPPY in the bowl. Add more ripped up bun. Grab a spoon. And now you can eat mess free. I didn't think of that until I was an adult. Always thought you had to fight with your Joe to eat it. 😆

Or you can reduce the tomato sauce a little and let it sit for a little bit before serving and it thickens up. That's what I do. I don't like the messiness of SJ's either and by doing that which is easy I'm personally fine.

when i freeze ground beef, i flatten out the bag before putting in the freezer. that way it will defrost quicker or i can take out a small portion.

When our local grocery store has ground beef on sale for 1.99 a pound, I’ll buy 30 or more pounds. I go ahead and brown 10-15 pounds and put in individual freezer bags, I make up patties and freeze and then I bag 1.5 pounds in bags. This makes things so much easier on stressful days. My hubby can’t have onions but can eat onion powder so that a blessing. This sloppy joe recipe is exactly like mine with the exception of the pickles, I’ll have to try this. It a shame, I have a air fryer but have never used it.

Hey Tammy Ordered the blending fork from your page on Amazon. Love that thing.Don’t how I did without it.Like my mashed potatoes lumpy and the fork is just perfect for mashing them. Heard yellow mustard is on the shortage list so better stock up.I did. My salt intake is limited so I now use the Badia Complete seasoning. It has many seasonings in one. Love it and don’t have to use extra salt. Thank you. Love this one.

I think that much pepper was a mistake and you questioned it at the time with a little surprise in your voice plus knew it the minute you took a taste of the Joe but still kind of wondered so covered it by saying to use what you wanted for the heat of the dish. It happens to all of us. Made me chuckle to myself a little. My Sloppy Joes are very similar, no canned sauce or relish. I also think the bell pepper is a must have. I add a little brown sugar which I think is important but wonder if using the relish would take its place for the sweetness part. Will have to try it.

I am a little nervous at the thought of putting relish in my sloppy Joes, but maybe I'll try it. Good tip about freezing chopped bell pepper and cooked ground beef. I may buy an air fryer, too. I'll check out shopping on your site one of these days.... Thanks for the recipe and the air fryer tip. Might save a little on electricity when air conditioning is in use, to use air fryer often, if you like Tator Tots and other frozen fried treats that you'd otherwise heat in the oven, after waiting for it to preheat, too.
