I think it depends on how the influencer acts with their new found success. I am driven and love it when others get rich but I can't stand when people act arrogant about it. As long as they aren't looking down on others, I don't care. I am also bothered by commenters who tell the influencer that they should donate their money instead of buying said item. I feel like since they are the audience who made the influencer rich, they have some entitlement to dictate their lives.

@@saragibbons Well said. I feel you on people thinking they are entitled to tell people what to do. This even happens outside of the online world where a family member or friend can see you coming up and may not be able to handle your changing financial situation. I think you make a good point about the comments. Like you made these girls rich so why do they get mad they are showing it?

Usually, the thumbnail gives away what the video is about, in 99% of the cases you already know you’ll be watching a luxury designer unboxing/reveal etc even before actually seeing the video. Why watch something they already know triggers them is something I’ll never understand 💀

Absolutely well-said, Kagem! It’s totally baffling that people take the time to go to a luxury channel and then criticise the content creator for “over-consumption”. There are other channels that discuss living minimally, financial management, etc. Who is to say how one should spend her own money? Who knows what she had been through in her life, her struggles and battles, and how she had overcome the obstacles to finally find success? Thanks for sharing!

Hi! I agree, baffling is so the right word here. I am genuinely confused by these comments because to me, they totally make no sense. If watching something upsets you, why on earth are people watching these videos?? So strange

People form these parasocial relationships with influencers which in turn breeds very strong emotions whether positive or negative. I enjoy seeing the progress when influencers earn more money and want to upgrade their life. Relatability for me comes down to personality…it needs to be authentic. I enjoy watching people from all walks of life, because it challenges my view of the world.

Yes absolutely the parasocial relationships are giving weird and some people need to know the boundary of online and offline, because both are so different. It's very easy to curate an image online - especially in the fashion, beauty and luxury spaces where people return items all the time after hauling them and doing online sales of items to buy new things etc. People need to be aware and not get too stressed about it. Interesting topic. I am American and can relate. I stopped going out with my friends because it became, I was the only one to pay when we went to restaurants. As far as an influencer, I like watching all content for ideas and items I may not know was released.

So excited for this discussion! That’s crazy when people think they are entitled to other people’s money. On another note, I can understand why people no longer connect with influencers that have moved on to higher end items, because they cannot spend the same so it then becomes about “Look what you can buy and I cannot.” I feel sometimes people can get jealous or start to feel sorry for themselves instead of being excited for the person who has “progressed.” Other times it’s more about consuming content for advice on what to buy. If the viewer can no longer relate to those purchases of the influencer or styles change, they are no longer interested. However I don’t think people should have ill feelings towards someone they no longer relate to. Although we have the right to change direction in life we should always remain respectful.

You made some great points here for sure. I can see how some people can see it as look what I have and you don't etc but people need to take some ownership for their feelings as well. I care about authenticity. I can't relate to a certain Chanel VIC that l enjoy watching but l like her because she is real. There is so much smoke and mirrors and jealousy in the luxury KZbin world. Also so much herd mentality and people trying to be 1st without confirming that the news is true/accurate. I appreciate that you waited to discuss the LV Murakami until the news was official.

People hate watch and leave negative comments to feel better about themselves. “Oh, this person is unboxing a $15K bag, but I bet she doesn’t give money to charity so she’s not as great as she thinks she is”. Corollary: “So I’m not as bad as I think I am just bc I can’t afford to do what she does.” None of it is rooted in logic and the irony is lost on them 😂😂

I’m a bit of the opposite I think. I’ve stopped watching luxury channels who are suddenly doing all the Amazon links for cheap clothes, home goods or dupes. I’m not here for relatable I’m here for aspirational. It’s ok to be who you are and let your people find you and if that’s big H and big C then stick with that. ☺️

I certainly dont need people to be relatable to my circumstance, in fact, I like to surround myself with people who are more successful than me so i GET to that as well. You are the average of what you watch or who you hang around. What I dont appreciate on youtube is fakery and scammery, vlog sales... cheap sponsors... etc.
