I am noticing that “leaving van life” is sometimes click bait; they don’t leave. Some KZbinrs who are dependent on their channel for their only income are putting up videos daily just to create content for income; it shows in the quality. I love that you define your journey as an “adventure” and you roll with that. You are open to learning new things. You are flexible and you aren’t afraid to step into a temporary work situation as needed. You keep it fun and entertaining and you figure things out along the way. You have indeed created a virtual community. Keep posting the good content.

Thanks Tracey! Everyone has different desires for their lives. When I think about what retirement looks like as a single 57 year old female I too am not really looking to have a marriage or live together situation. Loneliness is something many deal with whether in a relationship or not. I am going to finish out my working career to include taking zero debt into retirement. Then I will choose my final RV to do my travels in (right now it's a small travel trailer). I have friends and my dogs and have no interest in sitting around in the same apartment or house with all my money going to pay rent and waiting to die. No thanks! 🙂 Thanks for sharing your adventures with us!

@@williamwallace8164 I've heard them state that as well. But both of them have hundreds of thousands of subscribers, and both make a very good living because of that. Plus, it gives them something exciting to do while they're milling around in a van down by the river. They're both famous celebrities because of it. Many subscribers would leave their channel if they stopped living in a vehicle. Most subscribers watch vanlife channels to see vanlife. That's why I don't subscribe to Trent and Allie anymore... not interested in their lifestyle now. A whole lot of people would drop out if either Bob or Chrome dropped that lifestyle, which was the whole reason they subbed in the first place. It's not complicated at all. Besides all that, do you *really* think Bob and Chrome won't eventually cash the van lifestyle out? Especially Bob as he enters his geriatric years with the health problems that come with it. With all the money he's made he can easily afford a comfortable place to retire. Unless he suddenly dies in his van before, that day is coming for both of them.

It's been almost two years since I bought my minivan, with the intent to one day be a full-time nomad. I'd lost my housing (landlord sold the house) but was on waiting lists since 2020 with my mom (89) for senior low-income housing. We'd anticipated our "number coming up" LONG before now. Meanwhile, the relatively few belongings I have are in a storage facility and I've been couch-surfing, one of the "invisible homeless." With my two old Chihuahuas, who I'm fortunate to be able to keep at my sister's place most of the time, except when I have to take them (and myself) off-property because management does inspections and our crashing here is a lease violation. We've given up, and Mom's decided she wants to move back to California. I've been in Florida, where I never really wanted to live, for 7 years now. I came for by BFF, who had the unmitigated gall to die on me 9 months after I arrived; I've stayed for my mom. Needless to say, I'm happy she's ready to leave. We have more family in CA, including my disabled daughter, whom I almost lost in 2018 when she got really sick and was in a medically induced coma for nearly a month. The cross country trip will be chronicled on my KZbin channel @roxrollson, more as a way to keep those memories alive when Mom no longer is than anything else. If it turns into something, great. If not, oh well! After we land, I'll have a home base and plan to do some camping adventures FINALLY! Just some data: Throughout your 33 minute video, KZbin served about 12 minutes worth of ads, then a 16-minute Patriot generator ad after the video. I tend to let ads play for small creators, cuz your hard work deserves rewarding! I'll keep watching as long as you keep posting ❤ Stay safe, kid.

I had planned to be a full time vanlifer for 5 years, figured out what van to get, which outfitter to go to, and a budget. I let it go 2 years before retirement because I took up caring for my mother. Instead I bought a place in a retirement park for me and my mother. We gave a lot for ppl to park RVs and boats. Those rigs hardly ever get used from my observations since I moved to the park 2 years ago. I have a Subaru Outback that I can carcamp when road tripping. It’s nice to have a home base and a decent car to travel.

I think vanlife KZbinrs are not representative of vanlifers in general. Vanlifers in general didn't just lose 2/3 or more of their revenue this year. Part of what you're seeing is people realizing that KZbin isn't going to continue to pay their bills, but instead is going to take more and more of the value of their work from them, and pocket it. You were smart to never fall into the trap of trying to make KZbin your main source of income. Treating it as icing on the cake, a challenge to develop skills, and a way to share your experiences, was spot on.

I've been in my van since October and I can't imagine doing a KZbin channel right now. It would be the most boring videos ever. I work part-time and go to the gym. I'm currently paying off debt, getting my van mechanically sound for the journey and I haven't even started to build out my van yet. Any videos would be of the same routine stuff. I probably won't hit the road for a couple of years. That said, I'm enjoying this lifestyle. When I do travel, I have friends and family all over the country to visit, along with adventures I'd like to pursue along the way. Maybe I'll start a channel then. My parents traveled the country in a van after my dad retired in the early 80s, and they thoroughly enjoyed it. I guess it's in my blood.

I was thinking about this very issue earlier oday. People that follow social media sites tend to feel attached to the people they watch and it widens their social circle by 'one' - and sometimes they tend to want the people they watch to become 'friends' without realizing they are one of 30k followers and it's never going to happen. It's a community but with LONG arms and is typically temporary until the content providers decide they don't want to continue. I think it goes to the fact that many people are lonely and it fills a gap for them.

I have plans to attend some van gatherings this coming winter on BLM, but being out there alone is just not for me. I feel the same way about having a pet. I can see how vanlife might seem exciting and glamorous at first. I daresay for the majority of people it would get olds very fast because most people need the community. Hermits on wheels would be just as I'd yo society as hermits in a mountain cabin somewhere. I love to travel. When I travel I like to get to know the locals which is why I'm not fond of tours. When I was right out of college I had to live out of my car because my job was in a resort town and there was no place to rent. That was before cell phones, automatic electronic money transfers, and digital nomads. I do want to build out a van using what I already have because I love a challenge. I do have two dogs, one senior and one pup who don't do well when I leave them. I would have to find a way for them to come along. I worked overnights, which isn't everyone's thing either, but I liked it. I would think it would be difficult to be a couple or a family in a van or RV. Unless you had other firms of transportation, everyone would have to go and do everything together, wracking up miles and cost. But in the end we all find the right way for us. I would not want to do a KZbin channel. That would take up too much time. Again, we all have to find the balance that fits us. There is no one size fits all. Take care Tracey and have a grand time living your best life.

Two thoughts: 1: Technology has advanced to the point that van life has become possible as a comfortable existence. That makes it a threat to governments needing more control over their population. The end result is regulatory and legality enforcements that counter the conveniences and cost savings of van life. That's when most people realize it's difficult and expensive to be comfortable and safe living tiny and off grid. 2: People phase throughout life. Meaning, our interests peak and wane like a roller coaster. Our circumstances change constantly from young adults, to parents, to empty nesters, to everything in between. We make adjustments to our own personal environmental controls and our habitats of choice that align with our changing wants and needs. For some, van life is permanent. For others, it's an interesting way to live during a particular phase of life.

This is one of your best solo videos, partly due to the topic, and partly because it does such a beautiful job of showing how you think, how you set your priorities, and how you want to live your life. Living your lifestyle is navigating an obstacle course in a mine field, and you navigate it so much better than most do. I'm tempted to say flawlessly, but I think I'll phrase it instead as just being better than anyone has a right to expect of anyone else, or even of themselves. If you ever get down on yourself or feel like you're juggling too many balls, or feel like an imposter who's somehow gotten in over your head, or stumbled into something by luck, I'd say that's not true. You're the real thing, an exceptional and deserving woman who, if anything, deserves anything good which happens. I'm analytical, and prone to sharing more constructive criticism than most people want to hear. Don't let this swell your head, but in the big picture, there is nothing about you to criticize. Would our different life experiences cause me to do some things differently from you? Of course, but either way works fine in pretty much every case, and that is part of the excitement of life, that you can choose among many different paths to do things your own way, follow your own interests, pursue your own path, and create your own future. You truly ARE in your groove. That phrase was in my head about you, even before you said it. Immense respect. Even for how you handle reviews. Seeing you have an extra income stream, seeing you pass on bargains to others, seeing it as a piece of the puzzle that makes sense for you, more than makes up for the fact that as a viewer, I see too many reviews by too many people. That's not your problem, and actually I've returned to watching most of your reviews, not to see the review, but to see how you handle doing reviews as part of your life. It's a pretty fascinating life to me. Keep doing what you're doing, for as long as you wish. Forget about KZbin anytime you wish, temporarily or permanently. It would be a loss to folks like me, but not all that different than watching a child successfully leave the nest and thrive. The online community you've built is great, but don't let your life be held hostage to maintaining it, if you ever need a break or even to give it up completely. To paraphrase you, new channels will appear to take up any slack, and others that exist now will continue along until they reach their own limit.

We didn't have any pets with us. What I've noticed is if you have a cat or dog with you most people feel the need to have a companion animal for the 1st pet so that they are not lonely I think you can see why there were more pets than people. If the state of the country and the economy were a bit more stable, nomading it about might be a good option. I realize you are a positive thinking person and don't want to think about negative stuff. However, we are in crazy town. We could melt down into civil unrest at any time. Getting to a place where you can plant and store some food and weather a storm might be wise. The other option is reviewing clothing optional resorts like you did in MacClenny. That episode was hugely popular. These are all over the west florida coast. Free entrance and free rv space. Finding a place to weather a storm is strongly encouraged.

As always, your observations are spot-on. Also, perhaps the KZbinr you enjoy relaxing with is @FlossyRoxx . They're from New Zealand. 😊

Enjoy a lot of different perspectives about vanlife as I'll be joining the travelers soon. Each one is great. You are fabulous just as you are. Never let others, even your followers, make choices for you. You are the best you.

Have enjoyed your video's for some time now...Joy is a hoot! You two are my kind of folks.....John & Keith seem like great friends...I am also very independent but enjoy many laughs & experiences with friends...Costa Rica trip sounds like fun, if you should decide to open to a group let me know. I can coordinate with Keith or John if your schedule is all consuming, lol! Not sure how to get my contact info to you three for future possible rendezvous! Hope to see you down the road.... I hear you do not do fb...but I do. Not a youtuber here.

Ohh you're an October Kid too. I share the same birthday as "Dawn of Van Life." I'm just a part timer and fully retired, but understand the challenges all too well. Seventeen military deployments and eleven PCS moves in 26 1/2 years.

I don’t think it will because I don’t put pressure now on myself for KZbin. It’s not my “job” and I consider it just one of my streams of income from my like five jobs 😁

It seems like they are all moving that way. Nomadic Fanatic and Campervan Kevin have bought land. Even Bob Wells bought land. I am the same age as you and retired and have thought of becoming a full time nomad. I just can't do it for many reasons. Very connected to my home town of Ogden, Utah. Have a nice, comfortable home close to amenities. Friends around I have known since I was a kid. Tons of stuff close by I like to do like fly fish and mountain bike and hike. Not to mention all my family is here. Even with all that, I was going to still head out. So I did a practice run to one of my favorite fly fishing areas in Wyoming last summer. I was there pre-pandemic and there were two other vehicles camped around us. Went last year to the same spot and there were almost 30 vehicles. Nowhere is secret and it is just too crowded anymore. I am also noticing a lot of places closed down because of over use. The Middle Fork WMA in Utah is one of them. They closed it to overnight camping recently and I think that trend will continue. What are your plans?

A reason, you may not have thought of. Massive food shortage in a few months. You can not store much food in a van.

There is one way to look at this topic ,and that is if it wasn't for Facebook, KZbin and the other socials nobody would know anything about what most are going through, what on the road is like ,the pitfalls the highlights,it wouldn't be a care ,none of anybody's business because you would just get on and do what you have to do . Still think bricks and Mortar and having a stable place to be is more important, and I wonder how long you can put off the inevitable decisions about being on the road ,boon docking ,or parked in relatives driveways. I'm not sure anyone can be freely independent of the society's way of living . I don't think that Tiny homes are the answer ,got to be able to swing the Cat . I really believe that your constantly Searching ,what your searching for is all up to you . Take care .

Your best video ever. You seem relaxed. So much so I even subscribed to your channel. I might add if you’re at the Loves traveler If you sign up with a gas account for every 50 gallons of gas you charge at their station they give you a free coffee and a free shower. Enjoy your summer

I think we all need to be our own people. I definitely can't live to be someone else'e entertainment. When I do finally get out there, and get my channel started, I can't be anyone but me. I have a deep voice and get called Sir on the phone. I can only imagine what sort of remarks I'll get! Oh boy! I don't have to have a channel but I think it will help with sales. I hope! T..racey, when you first started, you were a natural! I'm extroverted but I don't know how I'll be when it's just me and my camera. Guess I'll find out one of these days

People who do Van life and then quit because they are bored, they are usually just doing it as adventure. Not a way of life. You don't quit living in a house or apartment because you get bored. There is a different between doing van life going places, sight seeing, traveling and doing Van life as just using the van as a way of a roof over your head. Off course you are going to get bored.
