I've had a Quilter Toneblock 202 and Overdrive 200 for a few years and absolutely love them. They're stupidly loud for the size and make an outstanding pedal platform. The 202 is better for a straight clean platform, but the 200 has some really useable gain channels. However, I will say that whilst I've rehearsed and gigged them absolutely fine - and the looks on peoples faces when you pull these amps out is priceless, more so when you start melting faces with them - there is one issue and that is they can sound a little bit "flat" at low volumes. This is 100% solvable by adding an EQ into the FX loop, I had the MXR 10 band in there and it allows you to add some top end sparkle and fix some of the low end. Then it sounds absolutely killer. The best thing about these is that they can do bedroom levels to gig levels without any issues. These amps need more love and respect. Small enough to have as a backup in your gig setup, loud enough to handle any scenario and crucially a very reasonable price!

When using with a modeler, turn the ‘Master’ up for clean headroom and use the ‘Gain’ for volume. Use the Full Q voice. Make sure preamp + power amp simulation is on. Speaker turned off. Limiter to taste.

The FRFR is a flat power amp modes. Vintage changes the damping to act more like a tube amp so it overshoots and reacts with a cab. This isn’t very clear in the marketing but makes a major difference in the feel and liveliness. Been using the Quilter 101 for years very pedal friendly and LOUD when you need it! It is worth the reaction I get when they see me hook up a cab to it and after they hear it they ask How Much- wow... Great Company!!!!

I have the 202 with the matching 15" cab and it rocks, if you want clean you got it, but it is a great pedal platform too and that was the main reason I went with Quilter for my main rig.

Nice review which gives a good impression of what the Toneblock can do. The Toneblock is easily the most versatile piece of equipment that I own and always part of my spare/fallback equipment kit that I bring to gigs, together with an Origin Effects Revival Drive and a boost pedal. I think the EQ modes work as follows, assuming the Toneblock is connected to a guitar cab: FRFR: power amp has low impedance and high speaker damping (acts like a PA power amp), neutral preamp, for use with modelers and IRs Full EQ: power amp has high impedance and low speaker damping (power amp acts more like a tube amp as far as interaction with the speaker is concerned, I think Quilter holds a patent for a class D power amp with these characteristics), for use with preamps, modelers, or as a very neutral guitar amp, IRs are not required in this mode Vintage: like Full EQ but with an F-Style preamp voicing, acts as an F-Style amp

Limiter!!!! I loved my limiter ( The BOSS LMB-3 is a bass limiter/enhancer that provides complete control over a bass guitar's dynamic range using a limiter effect and an enhancer circuit designed specifically for electric bass. It has threshold level and ratio knobs to smooth out or add punch to your sound, and an enhance knob for increased clarity. Here are some insights from user and expert reviews ) A LIMITER doesn't sterilize your tone. Trying to use AI to correct wrong opinions on Reddit might be like sending a calculator to a debate. While AI can throw out facts, it’s not great at dealing with people’s stubbornness or the wild variety of beliefs. It’s a bit like trying to convince a cat to swim-you might end up more frustrated than successful.

got unbelieving looks at a jam last week took my fav. guitar pedalplatformamp. out and it dominated against very agressive drums, 4 guitarist, bassist and a fuzzing cellist all going at the same time. AER amp one bass amp 1x10 combo. FAT. best bass amp per cubic inch. its tiny. beautiful for bassy fuzz pedals... it can replicate all frequencies. doesnt get squished like a small tube amp. in conjunction with a cranked laney cub 4x12s get pale. if your on a budget try to get hold off any used 100-200w bass combo as a pedalplattform. 15", no tweeter. aluminium cones might be to bright. run it in stereo, dry wet or as a slave off your main tube amp. great for synths too.

It weighs less than a small pedalboard and has enough gain to play most Classic Rock without using Pedals. Not as 3D as good tube amp but gets pretty close with EQ/Drive pedal out front. With Gain at 3:00 and higher... 7:57 Learn to dial in the Limiter and you get some of the "feel" you get with a SS Rect Tube Amp

Can't tell if the cab and mics chosen are part of this, but your video perfectly reflects what I experienced when comparing the Tone Block 202 to the DV Mark Raw Dawg... The Quilter always sounds like it has several blankets over it. Clearly decided on the Raw Dawg - it has "only" 60 Watts, but since I am using two for a stereo rig, that is still plenty. I also tested the Thermion Amplification Zero, which to me sounded even a little better than the Raw Dawg, but its optimistic 40 Watts rating just could not keep uo with drums in reality. Still want to try the Laney Loudpedals, demos sounded awesome... I know Quilter has quite a fan base, but whenever I compared them to just about anything, they came out last.

So one thing I wish you had tried was playing bass through it. I'd be interested to know whether they make a bass version of this amp as well. If not ,then it would be good to see this plugged into a bass cab and fired up.

The 101R is better imo as it has Active Mids centered at 900 hz. Crank the Gain, Limiter, and Mids and gets very close to tube amp "feel"
