Here is my review of the Husky Tool Box from Home Depot. This is the 52" wide version of the Husky tool chest that we have been using for several years now. This Husky tool box can be bought for under a thousand dollars at Home Depot. Can it compete with much more expensive tool chests like Snap On? Watch and find out if this tool storage solution is for you.

Have had my husky box for over 3 yrs. Love it. Top of the line residential/bottom of the line professional. Keep that in mind but I move my box around all the time to clean behind it(dogs sleep in the garage at night...Hair). But nothing has broke on it and the drawers slide like butter

Great review. Straight to the point, no gimmicky BS, honest and genuine. I appreciate that. I have one of the basic Husky boxes with silver pulls that I've had for years. It's ok but was looking to upgrade in size and quality. I wasn't even considering another Husky box, but you have now made me question that. Appreciate it. Thank you for your review.

I have the 72" 18-drawer chest and I love it to death. Since I bought it two years ago, it has gone up $400.00. I've got over 300 sockets in the socket drawer and it hasn't sagged one bit. Thank you Husky for making a great tool box. I've also got two of the 5-drawer 26" models under my work benches for extra storage. One has all my woodworking tools in it.

Great review/video. I love the way you explain what's good/bad about the box in a short amount of time. I hate it when the review is supposed to be about the box, but they spend 90% of the time showing you what they have in the toolbox. In fact, your video was so good that I subscribed to your channel and look fwd to watching your older youtubes. Thanks.

I just bought a similar Husky tool chest. One power strip on right side, no LED light on top lid. Some of these have a wooden work table as a lid for one of the drawers, but mine doesn’t have that.Mine sits between my workbench and a cabinet so the bottle opener doesn’t work on either side (there are holes to mount it on either side). Long before I got this box, I just mounted a bottle opener on the front of my workbench, so that’s a non-issue for me. Love the Husky tool chest so far and your review was simple & straightforward. Thanks!

I’m an auto mechanic over 24 years and needed a box since my old one was severely damaged. I got this for 500 dollars on sale a few years back. It is a great box. For the price the room and the looks. Average snap on or high end box is well over 5k and I can’t see spending that. I see more techs going this route with Husky and smaller brand name boxes. Great review.
@robb.sutton

It's good to hear techs are starting to go this route. I used to watch a lot of techs in the automotive tuning industry buy crazy expensive boxes with relatively low income. It really didn't make any sense to me. Maybe it is just there are more good options like the Husky box out there now.
@Aaron-or6ov
@Aaron-or6ov 3 жыл бұрын
@@robb.sutton I also believe there is more options than about ten fifteen years ago. Ten years ago husky and other smaller non highend boxes were not even close to what techs needed. Space quality and durability. But they have come a long way to that and making it better always now and it’s very affordable.

I am an automotive mechanic that occasionally works on some Large Tractors and equipment aswell. I bought one for work and it just simply didn’t hold up to the weight and constant use. Broke 2 In 2 years and was done with it and bought a snap on box and haven’t looked back… that being said I have a husky box sitting in my garage at home that works great. A husky box is great for most peoples home boxes

I am a retired aircraft mechanic and I bought a full set of tools and toolbox when I left the active duty Air Force in 1984. funny thing was I got the cheap Waterloo 27" roll box with a upper box. I used that toolbox for the rest of my career. Sure the thing was all beat to heck by the time I finished my career in 2017. I heard it a lot over the years that I needed to step it up from co workers to buy a better tool box setup but what I had worked for me and everything in toolbox fit so I never did. Repairs were on the oder of new aluminum 1/4" plate across the entire bottom of the box because of the bottom rusting out and much better casters but that was it. I always preferred good quality tools to do my job as I always viewed the box as a place to store my tools. Since I did not have the biggest whiz bang tool box in the shops but my thing was to make sure I never had a tool bill. That way I could afford more for my family

Diesel mechanic, so not the same field, but I could not imagine having to work out of a 27in box. Did you keep it as a tool cart and have a bigger box, or was that the only box you had? If anything I would think aircraft mechanics would need more tools

These are great boxes for the money. I will say what I have always said, and that is if you are going to have a large tool box and it is stationary a majority of the time, it does Not Need to be one of those fancy, high dollar boxes. However, the work bench and roll around carts are a completely different story. Those types of boxes see a ton of use and abuse, so I suggest spending a few more dollars and getting one that will last. The funny thing I have noticed about the big box tool boxes is that they all look similar. But when you look at them side by side and really close, you'll notice there is a difference in build quality and fit/finish. For the money, Husky brand is a great choice(especially for new technicians/home owners), but if you have a few more dollars to spend, I'd definitely say to check out the Milwaukee Tool toolboxes. Their bends, edges, rivets, welds and paint are a lot better by comparison for the little amount of money spent. I'd stay away from the Cobalt boxes all together. But the other brand in this price range line up is the Craftsman boxes. They are quite nice, and their offerings are simple, since they only have two series to choose from. And even though they are made in the US (with globally sourced materials), they could be a little better quality wise, and use either thicker steel, double wall or bend the edges of the drawers to make them sturdier than they are.

We have techs with the husky boxes. They have not lasted daily use, they drawers deflect with any amount of decent weight, the slides constantly failing and home depot does not offer any help getting them. You can get a slides replaced for free for your 47 y/o snap-on still..... Can't even get slides for your husky? You'll NEVER get drawers, handles, etc... For professional use, you can buy ONCE and service it for LIFE, Snap-on can replace drawers, handles, and the actual welded in ribs and panels if the box get hit with a car in the shop or falls of a truck being transported... There is a difference, and you do pay for it.

I have that exact box, and it's garbage. I also have a 41" stainless old school Craftsman, a 41", a 26", and a 52" Craftsman Pro Series (their last great box before the sell out). All of those are miles ahead of my crappy Husky. The SS one is over 20 years old and still looks and works as good as the day I bought it. The Pro Series are on par with Snap-On's and Matco's lower tier boxes for less than 1/4 the cost. On my Husky, 1/3 of the drawers no long "soft close". It never gets moved, so I can't speak on that kind of longevity, but I do have mine MUCH more loaded down than yours, so that may be the difference between why yours is still working well and mine isn't. The way I see it, the Craftsman ones, while over 1k, were still a much better "bargain" then the Husky. Plus they were made in USA, and that's always preferred over made in China/Taiwan/Vietnam.

Hm, thats very interesting that the drawers were high quality. I was at Home Depot the other day and I took a look at some Husky boxes, they were all very poor quality. Home depot grades there boxes as standard, heavy duty, and professional. The standard duty ones are garbage and probably what you looked at. Nice video. I recently went back and forth on something like this or better. I decided on better. I was tired of replacing cheaper boxes. I got a 73" ICON.... after 20% off and 10% off for opening a Harbor freight CC (that I'll pay off immediately), I paid $2,700. For that I got a lifetime warranty, 25" deep box which I think is more efficient at storage, customizable drawers, similar Cu Footage, another work surface, 265/530 lb drawer slides (I have a lot of tools), a lockable power drawer, and a beefier construction that will make this a true lifetime box. For me, those benefits were worth the 2 to 3 times price. I've had cheaper boxes and they just haven't held up to how I use them. I decided to buy once and forget about ever replacing.

Why are people spending thousands on tool boxes? Because we're buying real toolboxes, not hobbyist level. That entire box wouldn't hold the weight on my socket drawer in my 84" Epiq Snap-on. When I was a Snap-on dealer, I took in lots of Husky, Craftsman, Kobalt, and other homeowner toolboxes on trade. I couldn't resale them, ended up scraping them. They do not last in professional settings. They literally fall apart. LITERALLY. Drawers fall out. Welds break. This is OK for arts and crafts, it's not a real toolbox for a real technician/mechanic.

I’ve been on both sides - professional mechanic and homeowner/DIY. If you are earning a living with your tools and using them 8+ hours a day, then you probably should step up to a more pro-grade setup. But if the box spends most of the time just holding your tools until you need them on the weekend, why waste your money? I would rather spend the money on better tools. Spending 5X on a box will not make you 5X the mechanic, or save you 1/5 as much time on a repair. Mechanics fall for whatever the Snap-On guy is selling and peer pressure because someone in the shop always has a nicer, bigger box. I’d rather have a nicer home, or newer truck than $20k in tools and owe half my check to the Snap-On guy.
