Workshop Wednesdays: Husky 56x22 Heavy Duty Tool Chest

The Workshop isn't a workshop without a place to put tools and this week I solve that problem with a VERY HEAVY new tool chest

This was a great purchase! I don't care how strong you think you are, you are not putting this box together by yourself, What a awesome box, so glad I didn't purchase cheap Craftmans box that I went for, last minute you tube videos changed my mind and went this box, buy it, you will be so happy!!!

I got this recently during the holidays on a killer price of a lil over $700 and HD loaded it on my trailer and I went home. THEN.... I realized I had to put this together! Lil did I know HD WILL assemble it if you allow them extra time but no one told me so after a few weeks an engine hoist and I solved the issue and I went thru exactly what your doing in this video, wish they had those handle bars on both ends not just the one lower. Overall a great deal considering what I see at Hobo freight these days.

The way I see it, the larger tool boxes stay put and rarely move. they tend to last longer when you do that, regardless of the brand. Reason is, floors are not always level or without cracks or holes. Moving a large, heavy box over that will cause stress on the box in ways that will cause weak points to show their weakness. i'd suggest getting an actual tool cart that you can either load up every time you have a specific task you are performing, and then empty the cart when you are done, or keep some basic or commonly used tools in it and then if you need some specialty tools, you can load those in the cart. Edit: I see you already have one cart there between the new, large box and the work bench.

I bought the same HUSKY Brand top tool chest an roller bottom. Its been an awesome set. Zero issues with mine in 5yrs so far. I heard you say that you were going to park your car in the garage too... just a quick note due to observing... make sure you DON`T park your car on top of that carpet on the floor.

I ended up having to use the tractor to put the upper chest on my cart as well. I have a 72” system. If you want matching locks, take yours apart, and measure. You can buy replacement lock bodies online with matching keys.

Thank you so much!!! Yes, it is a beast, but that's because it's built so well. I still have empty drawers to fill because there's just so much space. I'd say, overall, I'm very pleased with it 😁👍

What about taking the lid off of the box ( which I would probably end up leaving open most of the time) and then you would have room for the cabinets? Very nice tool box.

That would probably work 👍 I do like the cabinets above the workbench after all. I'm going to mount some LEDs under them. You can also remove the drawers to make it lighter but the tractor worked just fine 🙂

I have a US General 44" top and bottom chest that I've had for 19 years. I have no place to really put it other than outside on my carport. Its dirty, but works great after all these years. I really need a larger set but don't know where I'd put it. Unfortunately they discontinued the original 44" stuff as I never got the end cabinets for them, the new stuff don't fit...so I would have to buy a new top/bottom set to get cabinets grrrrrr.....so, when I do upgrade I'll probably go with the 56" and then get the end cabinets at the same time so they're all matching. I guess since I have an orange tractor, I need to get the Orange tool chest HAHA!!.

I had it delivered. Free shipping from Home Depot's website. A bit risky because it could get damaged but I was fortunate.

I found a note with a 1-800 # for a $10 gift card in lieu of the light. The # connected me with a veterans help center. 🙄

Does the cabinet &/or tool box lock in any way?

Yes. Different keys for top and bottom. No way to have them keyed the same.

Yes it all locks internally with a turn of the key. No external bars to insert in these, although I wonder how strong that internal locking bar system is.

I did a search online & found it at 6 different websites for $89 & one for $164. What do you think, scams? Did you end up buying it from Home Depot just online?

Bought it from Home Depot 's website. Used the app and had it shipped to my home for free.
