Thank you for a great video that was very matter of fact and not opinionated. I am a long term veterinary technician and very experienced w cropping and everything that comes w it including the negative perceptions most dog owners have of this procedure. It's not at all what people think if done ethical. It has the potential of being extremely unethical and unfair to the dog but if done correct it's actually more stressful for the puppy to be away from mother for the few hours then the surgery itself. We need more videos to get the public educated. Outlawing the procedure is the worst idea. It forces it underground and out of the professionals hands. Thanks again..... DAS-Crops (riverside ca.)

Have had floppy eared dogs for 35 years. And never had an ear infection. That reason isn’t too solid. There are dogs with way floppier ears like spaniels and they don’t get constant infections. It’s done to prevent tears in the past during fights, guarding and hunting. Exactly. Floppy ears are a glorified mutation. Much like French bulldogs with their short snouts, just not to that extreme level where it causes life threatening problems. Also, I got a good laugh from the fact you said I will show you the update post op meaning that you were unaffected by the comments against it and the judgments against it so good for you. So many people seem to be so afraid about being judged if the dog has cropped ears on a dog tail. I also like that you set the tone that respect for whatever the owner's decision is, which is most important, and that anything else in the comments area was unacceptable. At the end of the day when people spend thousands of dollars on a dog it is their prerogative to crop the ears or doc the tail according to breed standards or to choose not to.

I've had Dobermans with cropped ears, huskies with erect ears and a Shepherd mix who also had erect ears. I kept the ears relatively clean, checked maybe once a week or so for anything but never had an issue with ear infections. I adopted a wonderful one year old pitbull in 2009 (he sadly passed in October), my first adopted dog, who had lop ears and despite keeping to my usual weekly ear cleaning schedule, he had two fairly significant ear infections in his life, meaning it required medical attention and it was disgusting watching the vet scoop black gunk from the depths of his ear canal. From personal experience I can say that perhaps erect ears are, indeed, better. However, if we constantly use that argument people will ultimately ask why we don't crop Labradors, etc. I have far more respect for people who just come right out and say it, I like the cropped look better, because at the end of the day it IS a cosmetic procedure.

We adopted an uncropped miniature Schnauzer and she was constantly getting ear infections. Even when we got her regularly groomed (groomer cleaned her ears each time) she would still get them. Granted, she had skin problems where she was allergic to the yeast that naturally lives on skin so who knows if her ears would have been any better had she been cropped as a puppy.
@BioTransXX5 жыл бұрын
Your honesty about the issue is refreshing. Were cutting ourselves and our kids up all the time in the name of aesthetics so its not surprising that some people would do the same to their pets. Most dogs in the western world are no longer used for their intended purpose. They're bred to be pets or for show. Ear infections are just an excuse people who like cropping their dogs ears like to use to try and legitimize the practice without admitting the real reason they do it is for the look. Like senza tempo cane corso for example. She likes to talk about ear infections and floppy ears not being found in nature as the reason she crops her dogs ears. She's going to start breeding long haired Dachshunds apparently, lets see if she stays true to her words and crops their ears too. Hahaha. If ear infections were the real reason people cropped their dogs ears then the dogs with that specific "aggressive" look wouldn't be the only ones getting their ears cropped.

We had boxers. Always cropped their ears. #1 when you use a dig to patrol, it enables them to hear better. #2 They are territorial and all fight if a strange dog comes into their territory. It enables them to pin their ears back so they don't get chewed off. #3 A boxer has a short snout, restricted breathing. They get overheated easily when exercising and playing. The cropped ears enable them to cool off easier. #4 Floppy ears trap moisture and heat and cause build up of wax and ear infections. Also it is a good breeding ground for mites and ticks, because the ears are covered and may go unnoticed. I can't speak for other breeds. This is the advice coming from our vet, and I know this will be hard the believe, but he. Is a staunch PETA supporter. These are my reasons for cropping. Yes, it looks better for boxers to be cropped, but their health always came first with me.

You are wonderfully informative beautiful information wonderful outlook. When people hate on breeding dogs I think of wonderful breeders like yourself. Now where the rescue I want one but I only get rescues. Personal choice. I have had 2 rescued rottweiler back to back. Best friends I've ever had.

Spaying and neutering is more invasive amd causes more pain to a dog. They always say the dog goes through alot of pain during the cropping and doccing stages. But when you say spay and neuter its all right to them cause it decreases the animal population. So its some how alright.

Sis I love the channel and really dig how y'all care for and love the heck outta your animals. Got me seriously considering a Cane or Rottie when these current shelter mutts check in to dog heaven, and they're pretty young so it ain't gon be soon. The wife would cuss me for bringing a 3rd dog into the house...but I'm thinking about it! I would just tell her it's your fault. 🤣 God bless you and your family.

I don’t like it either but the dogs don’t get infections like they would if they had long ears. Our mastiff suffered badly from the ear infections. Our corsos never get them.

I have a Cane Corso as a pet and he's a floppy eared boy, only thing I've read is the flaps help prevent dust from blowing in (leading too irritation / infection). Im about as against ear cropping as I am circumcision so it's whatever lol
@TwelveTitansKennels5 жыл бұрын
I had not heard about the flaps preventing dust. I think that's the role of the hair present within the ear canal.

Nice video, liked ur calm discussion. I am with ear cropping as per each one’s need. I personally dont like floppy ears. However, i’ve always asked my self a question: why we don’t see rottweilers or labradors having cropped ears?? Any idea??
@TwelveTitansKennels5 жыл бұрын
Thank you sir. I think you e posed a very good question. It always comes down to “looks” and/or function. To my knowledge labs were used to retrieve other hunted smaller animals... perhaps they weren’t fighting/wrestling with prey. So no perceived need to crop the ears? But not sure why Rotties are not cropped? Maybe based on pure aesthetic? Now I’m curious and will research
@ihababdelaziz5 жыл бұрын
I guess so!! Its all about aesthetics, would be great to share with me ur research if u found something about this topic! Cheers

@@TwelveTitansKennels hey sis I thought the same thing about the rottweiler, but the rottweiler seems to have smaller ears so maybe they dont get in the way as much. They dont crop the ears on a boerboel, guess it's all up to who ever is creating the breed and what they see fit for looks or function. Love the cropped ears.

I have been thinking of getting a cane corso and I do inteand to gets its ears cropped not only intimidating appearance but manily because another one of my dogs who passed away years ago, struggled with and ear infection for a long time and was in pain, and if cropping can even potentially lessen the likelihood of that happening then I think it would be worth it for the dogs sake

There was one pup in the video that didn’t have its ears cropped. Was there a reason you chose not to? I know for Italy and showing corso’s there that they banned ear and tail cropping.
@TwelveTitansKennels5 жыл бұрын
Not all the families have requested for the ear crop.
@I93G15 жыл бұрын
TwelveTitans Kennels oh in that way. Thank you for answering! There are some breeders that do it regardless. So I guess that’s why I got curious about it. Wish you great holidays! Edit: and some others due to show reasons like I mentioned Italy. 😁
@TwelveTitansKennels5 жыл бұрын
Yes that’s very true. Ear crop is definitely optional for our families and not compulsory for unreserved pups
@judevicious33335 жыл бұрын
I used to think it was wrong to crop dog's ears and tails until I got my pitbull. When her tail wags it hurts when it hits you and I can't have her around small children because her tail is like a whip. She loves everybody and is very good with the kids that she has been around but I'm more afraid she'll tail whip someone than bite someone. I'm confident that she wont bite. Also she'll be 9 years old in April and she's probably had ear infections more than not in her life and every time she shakes her head all the blood rushes to the tips of her ears. I can only imagine how painful that is. There was one time she was outside in a dog run and I stepped in the house for a moment. When I came back outside she was so happy to see me and she was wagging her tail really hard. As anyone else would love that I just wanted her to stop wagging her tail because blood was spattering everywhere because she was wagging her tail against the fence making blood go everywhere. She was maybe a year or 2 old then and she still has a massive scar on the tip of her tail being almost 9 years old. I love my baby so so much but if I were to ever get another dog with short hair you better believe it'll have it's ears and tail cropped. I don't ever want to have to watch another dog go through that again.
@TwelveTitansKennels5 жыл бұрын
Wow... very insightful. Thank you so very much for sharing. Our English Mastiff now has a crook in tail from banging it around so much.
@judevicious33335 жыл бұрын
Yup I never understood why people cropped ears and tails till I watched my pitty go through what she did. People argue that wolves have tails but they have all that fur to protect it. You never heard of a lab going through stuff like that because of all that padding. It's the short hair breeds that get it the worst.

Yes this litter is spoken for. Most people want crops so rarely do we have a pup not already reserved.

Well we live in times when it is no longer necessary. another breeder said it was for hygiene reasons. I say it is purely optical and totally unnecessary. Thankfully I live in a country where ear and tail cropping are banned. Even if it is done under anesthetic it is still painful for the pups after. Try cutting your ear to see how it hurts. dogs just don't show pain like a human does. Thanks for the well informed video though.
@donnieblasingame42335 жыл бұрын
Carol Docherty it is necessary less cleaning and could lead to health problems. And if you work your dogs like they way they was breed and meant then you should have them cropped
@elianacornwell54485 жыл бұрын
Why do people choose to get their dogs ears cropped verses taping them to get them to stand up? Is it just looks or does taping them not work as well with cane corsos? I have always thought that taping ears seems easier on the dogs because no anesthesia or surgery and you still get the look desired but I'm just curious.

It isn't the same look.

I believe you had spoke on this topic in a previous video but I applaud you for giving the history and reasoning. At the end of the day its a personal choice and you leave the option up to the owner which is more than some breeders do. Hopefully people can understand that and just agree to disagree.

No offense to you or your dogs at all, I've had a doberman and a Giant Schnauzer and I've crapped both their ears. I was just wondering with the four leashed pups as well as the pups and the playpen why there were certain puppies that did not have their ears cropped? Was that an owner request or where they exports, just curious? Your dogs are very gorgeous and it looks like they are definitely very family oriented.
