Why do we pay income tax? Tax is paid on what you profit from. Your labour is not something you make a profit on.
@tediousmaximus1067Ай бұрын
Yes I read that a long time ago. The word income does not mean labour. It means profits. Being paid for your labour is NOT a profit! It is just compensation for your time and labour. In the old days the only people who paid income tax were big companies and corporations because they were making huge PROFITS! Income tax (and land tax) should both be abolished!

We will always pay income tax and the national debt will never be cleared because successive governments have pledged the future labour/earnings of the population as surety for the borrowings generated by the central bank buying the government bonds. All taxes pay the interest on these bonds to the bond holders. Treasury is simply a financial intermediary and the ATO is the collection arm. Our collective fates were sealed when control of the money was given to the bankers.😟

In Taiwan you do not have to pay tax if you have children under 5 years old if you do not make a lot. Even some third world countries have completely free kinder for children between 2-6 years old (with free lunch) 5 days a week so parents can work. Australia is so backwards and so greedy and money hungry that it puts lots of other countries to shame. Everything is privatised and taxed to the max. You cannot buy a house, you cannot go on holidays, you cannot retire, you cannot afford dental or doctor anymore... for some they can't even afford rent so they work full time and live in their cars. The tax you pay doesn't even go towards fixing the roads anymore. Everything is stolen from under us and given to those at the top. I hate what this country has become.

The first part, definitely. The second part, I dunno. People always think it's simple to throw taxes at big companies because "they can afford it, why not" but the more you do that, the less attractive you make doing business in your country. This is what idiot leftists have done in California with the crazy taxation there, and as a result tons of people are just fleeing the state. As a nation you don't want to do that (tho ofc those companies paying nothing, definitely should be). Less companies also means less jobs and less income for the people. It's a net negative for everyone in a way. Kind of same with raising minimum wage, it's a classic short-term-idiot-fix to a complex issue... what it leads directly to is employers who hire less employees overall and are therefore much more picky. What we really need is just way less taxes and way less govt and their crappy regulations. A lot of the housing problem is (other than immigration & speculative investments) due to insane restrictions on building zones preventing people from actually building anything (or to do so, have to jump through hoops and pay loads in fees and licenses). The less govt you have, the less problems you seem to have, up to a point. We probably could shrink it 4 times and only be better off.

If that was the case then very few people would be paying tax. So the government has no money to spend on infrastructure. So they get it from somewhere else; either way they will get it from you. It would also mean people earning under 100k would begin spending more on unnecessary purchases which would drive up inflation which would lead to an increase in interest rates. I am no economics professor but your comment is biased towards low earning people and doesn’t factor in the complex workings of economics.

I do really appreciate Senator Rennick’s videos, shedding light into dark areas is so necessary and right. We should know these things. The cost of living is strangling Australians this is for sure, we see it in everyday living costs, crime rates, homelessness, domestic violence etc. etc. Taxation, a slight tangent- You cannot just keep looking for ways to Tax people at any income level to provide the funds for Government. Not to state the obvious! We need to look at Government, not Tax people more. We are over-governed, over regulated and we all recognise that governments are incredibly poor money managers. Australia is a country which has so much to offer, resources galore, however we are barely keeping our heads above water, when we should be a wealthy country, with people living at a very reasonable standard. We need to look after our own people first, stop handing out to immigrants hand over fist, stop the waste, an earlier Senator Rennick video mentioned the cost of the COVID VACCINES it was a staggering number and 12 Vaccines per person - really! Massive Government unfettered splash’s of cash are completely irresponsible. If this was the private sector, it would be game over, JAIL TIME. I reckon if Australia simply significantly cut regulations - make being in Business easier, the Country would prosper. We as a Country have that much to offer. Sorry about the Rant, but I had to again state the obvious.

Also, the indirect tax involving our low income earners must be looked into and changed. For instance, seen this morning , the police pulled up a car to inflict the statuary booking. This car did not look to be worth more than about $1500.00 , I do not know the extent of the fine, it I would imagine it to be very close to the value of the car. The driver would have done something out of place, but going back a number of years, I having been in the same situation, got the don’t do that again or we will have your guts. Why has that changed and an immediate fine given regardless of the circumstance? These people are already on the breadline and imposing a $ 600 to$ 800 fine only makes their lives more difficult and some leeway can be given should the powers that be choose to it.

Moving forward a few years working in Queensland our overtime was taxed almost or over 40 cents in the dollar depending on how many hours you worked not much of an incentive and then the company was also paying you on an average so two(2) days of work was going into the company's pocket not yours which you never got paid for and pay rises as per the work and skill level was not recognised even though you were equal to a certified person doing the same work and this still goes on to this day. But 16 cents in the dollar! Really where is that?? Not where I worked or too many other work places for that matter.
