Poles left the UK. I travel non-stop around Europe and I see the difference between average cities in Poland and the UK. Great Britain is 20 years behind, shops, gas stations, quality of buildings, cleanliness of streets, crime.

Poland is rising pretty fast, I see it as Czech, we are stagnating and we are just riding on that wave that we had better starting position in 1989 because of our history and not beying destroyed during WWII, but we are stucked behind wall of bureaucracy and a lot of badly written laws where few villagers can block important constructions for decades. Poles probably don't have this problem in such extreme and they can attract foreign investors better. When I started visiting Poland in 2017, it was still cheaper retro looking country for me, but every time when I return there, they have new skyscrappers, while we build maybe 50m of highway for the same time, they will destroy us all in next 20 years. I am not sure about western europe, but they will definitely overpass other former communist countries soon.

What unemployment in Poland? What corruption in Poland? I moved back to Poland in 2020 after 15 years in UK and have not regretted it for a second. UK's living standards have been falling for 16 years straight whereas polish have been growing continuosly for almost 3 decades. Doing exactly the same job as previously in the UK I have a much better quality of life.

Half the time when she needs medication, we need to bring it from Poland because she will not get it here. She is disabled and needs physical therapy, so she goes back and does it in Poland, because she is told to take paracetamol instead here. For every basic thing we have to wait months here, while she returns to Poland for a single month per year, and manages to do most of those things within that month So I would advise to take the medical services out of your "con's" list

@user-ve2jj1ik4b Hello, thank you for your opinion! Of course, life is not black and white, and Ukrainian immigration is also. Nevertheless, there is a big difference between Ukrainians and migration from Africa and the Middle East: Ukrainians staying in Poland in vast majority work here or they work remotely paying here taxes, rent flats , do shopping...generally contribute to the economy. They are also Christians sharing similar values. Children usually within a year are able to speak Polish without any accent. It is not the perfect situation, of course ....there are also some of them who behave notorious. Anyway It should also be considered that Poland is in a catastrophic demographic situation...with the lowest birth rate ever. Sooner or later the immigration would be a must to sustain the structure of the country. But if I am to choose between Ukrainians and Muslims.. the choice is obvious for me.

As a Pole, I'm really tired of some Westerners still calling us "Eastern Europeans". It's like we are not located in the center of Europe, like we use Cyrillic instead of Latin alphabet, like Eastern Orthodoxy is bigger here than Catholicism, like we love and support Russia and have the exact same mentality as Russians, like we are still behind the Iron Curtain and like we are not the members of EU and NATO for 20 and 25 years respectively. If a man loved slavery, if he loved usury, if he loved terrorism and all the trampled mire of materialistic politics, I have always found that he added to these affections the passion of a hatred of Poland. She could be judged in the light of that hatred, and the judgment has proved to be right."

Man, leave Africans and Asians alone, they have been in UK more than 50/70 yrs before you. Life in West didn't start with the collapse of the Berlin wall. Ska reggae etc...were not coming from white Britt's in the 60's/70s. So don't over generalize and blame the "other non white groups" (" typical polish bias"). UK simply became more racist, like all Europeans due to bad politicians, bad management, inability to create wealth, 15 yrs of Merkel's lack of vision & the new waves of migrants without appropriate policies from Europe and the countries within!! Bonus= when you put principles before realism you get those waves of migrants. France & UK (+US) killed Kadafi, turned Libya into an unstable slaves/ migrants state and ALL THose MIGRANTS ARE COMING FROM THOSE ROUTES. Before, with KADAFI it was impossible, he was blocking them!!!! I'm not trying to say KADAFI was an angel but a little bit of pragmatism would have saved us a lot of pain. Many of my friends in Poland have the same problem - they have more houses from family members who passed away than they are able to take care of. Polish population is shrinking and in 20-30 years they will be selling abandoned houses for a euro, like they do in Italy to anyone willing to renovate it. Fortunately, I don't have to worry about that. I think it's much more likely that after I retire, I would do extended visits to Poland maybe for 2-3 months at a time. I have been living in Britain for near 20 years. Tha racism we experienced 2004-2016 was very bad and will nit be forgotten. Driven by politicians and the media including BBC. I am visiting Poland regularly and can say that quality of life there is better than in the UK. I am seriously considering going back in the next year or two. It should be noted that thousands of Poles were recruited to work in Britain by the NHS and many companies in Poland. My job interview for the consultant post in the NHS took place in Warsaw. I still remember a BBC programm when a presenter had an idea of denying participating in pension schemes for us.

Immigration issues should not be as bad in Poland as they are in the UK. The Ukrainian immigrants are Caucasians, they are culturally somewhat close, the languages have lots of similarities, their IQ is just 1 point lower than Poles (could be due to education). Now compare that to the immigrants coming to the UK: these are mostly Africans, mostly culturally distant, mostly Muslim, most of them have lower IQ (IQ in some African countries is as low as 65), some of them were brought up in warring countries, by families with low parenting skills, more of them are prone to criminal behavior, etc. Bynajmniej I am not saying there will not be any issues in Poland, I am saying that immigrants coming to Poland compared to UK immigrants have bigger chance of contributing to society and less chance of becoming a burden to the society. BTW I am a Pole and I keep staying in the UK, mainly due to ISA tax free account for me and my son, which is one of the few last good things left to like about the UK.

It's not true. I am British, and have lived most of my life in a heavily-Brexit voting area, and voted for Brexit myself. In all my years I never heard a single British person express a dislike of Polish people or culture. The only complaints that people had were concerning the sheer numbers of Poles/Balts etc which drove down wages. Also, I have personally had the experience of working in factories where I was the only English person, and at break times all the Poles and other nationalities would just sit together and talk to each other in their languages and completely ignore me, which isn't a very pleasant experience. But I still recognised that they were good workers and probably decent people outside of work. If you want to see real open racism and hatred though, just look at the comments in this thread: people here being openly racist against the English simply because we decided we did not want to be part of a European super-state.

The hardships of a fallen empire. Britain long relied upon, but nonetheless held contempt for, foreigners. They want to be a nation of masters, not servants. But, at the same time, a deep sense of superiority makes them unwilling to tolerate the foreigners they need for this. The sad truth is that the Brits are angry because their own class system is coming back to bite them. The average Brit doesn't want to be menial labor. But they're not an imperial power anymore. So the harsh reality is setting in that the jobs foreigners were "stealing" are jobs the Brits themselves don't want to do.

Not true, those that had German ethnicity went to Germany because they still had German nationality, remember Poland moved west after the War, those that were displaced from territories in the east moved into where those Germans were driven out but not all Germans were expelled. Germany imposed a 7 year ban on Poles entering the labour market after their succcesion to the EU. The most went to the UK. 1.2 million applied for leave to remain after Brexit. Taken from a german government website "It is estimated that there are over two million people "with a Polish migration background" in Germany, many of whom hold dual citizenship."

Well. The subsequent British governments had run their own country down into oblivion. Back in 2007-2009 I’ve been working in the UK remotely from Poland. Recently my former British employer, after his last 2 businesses went bankrupt, decided to move into Asia, because, according to him 'everything in the UK is going to s***'. Back in 2007, moving into UK seemed like a stupid idea to me. Today, I’d have a hard time believing anyone sane in Poland would do such a move. Poland has a higher standard of living than the UK since 14+ years. The unemployment rate here had been around 2.5-3.5% for the past 10 years. Corruption in Poland is comparable to the rest of the EU, at least since 2016, when we got rid of the Tusk government, now we’re going to get rid of him again.

If we had agreed to the Germans' proposal and went with them to Moscow, most likely Stalin would have been dragged to Berlin in September 1939, just as in October 1611, the Russian Tsar was dragged before the King of Poland to the royal castle in Warsaw. You deceived us that together with the French you would attack the Germans from the west. As a result, the Germans reached an agreement with the Soviets and attacked us from both sides, and after the war you sold us to Stalin.

Britain and France declared war on Germany because they were bound by international agreements and it was in their interest (for France a strong Germany was a threat, for Britain it was not keeping the balance on the continent and agressive German imperialism). But for a year after the declaration of war, Britain did nothing except send leaflets to occupied Poland (the phoney war). Not to mention such ugly behaviors as laying hands on Polish gold reserves (in exchange for taking care of Polish refugees), not inviting Polish soldiers to the victory parade in London or pushing Poland into the Soviet sphere of influence

That the western Europeans keep underestimating our members on the eastern border is a shame, especially with them becoming stronger, more confident in themselves and contributing more and more to the wealth of the alliance, despite of all the stereotypes trying to assume the opposite. Germany has absolutely benefitted greatly, especially from our close relationship with Poland, which is an even greater achievement considering the history of both nations. This not to say everything is perfect, but I believe the still existing differences and sentiments will continue to ebb away as we get more accustomed to the alliance and especially as the economic gap between the western and eastern members will continue to close. Anything of this scale, and especially trust, needs time to grow and the real underlying damage of Brexit is that this growth of over 40 years between the continent and the UK, has been completely undone. I can't speak for all western Europeans or Germans, but I hope we continue to grow this friendship against all opposition.

Personally I have never heard of anti-Polish sentiment. I know a significant number of the Polish diaspora living in the city where I live and none of them have ever experienced any anti-Polish resentment or discrimination. If there are isolated incidents then although regrettable it is inevitable personality clashes arise and perhaps some of the perpetrators have underlying mental health problems. Other than a negligible number of unfortunate experiences almost all Polish living in Britain integrate well and have stable prosperous lives.
