The Baggs brothers turn up the heat and grill the BBC’s cost of living correspondent Colletta Smith about what’s going on in the housing market.
Why are rents rising in big cities? How does the UK compare to the European rental market? How do banks decide who gets a mortgage and how high it is?
This video is part of Flip the Script, a series where celebrities interview BBC journalists about today’s big issues.

They are kept artificially high. There is less demand for rooms and accommodations du to less EU new comers and many departures, you can very clearly notice the lack of people if you try to sell 2nd hand furniture or any domestic item, it use to sell within hours now zero buyers for weeks.

In France you are discouraged from owing more than 33% of you net salary in housing costs. Rents are also a lot lower. Additionally, house prices do not increase to the same levels as they do in the UK. Thus the property I bought 18 years ago, probably hasn't gone up too much. But the reason is it was bought as a home not a gamble to make a quick buck. They also say you should wait around 8 years to sell because of the Notaire fees you have to pay when buying, not 6 months as in the UK to make a quick profit.

Total and utter nonsense. Labour are not blocking removals. The law states that asylum seekers cannot be removed until their claims have been processed. The Tories have cut the department's that do the processing. The rent is being paid out of the Foreign Aid budget, so its actually costing projects we have in other countries that keep refugees in the nearest safe country to where they have come from, it is not an extra expense coming from extra taxation. Those that are built are not affordable unless you're an investor/landlord. The majority of wages then goes on rent, without 'disposable' income the economy shrinks as people are not buying 'stuff' or using services.... and so it continues. You know there was a time the BBC would have been saying "people can't afford their mortgage".... now its rents....next its tents? The cost of housing is having a larger negative effect on the economy than any other factor. All so wages can be kept low and they can get three for the price of one. America has been responsible for over 70 invasions of foreign countries since WWII and has military bases in every country deemed an ally. If anyone is living anywhere rent-free, it's Americans. BBC lives rent-free in American's heads.
