A seminar titled Periyar and Carnatic Sangeet: The Politics of Music was held in Chennai on 30-03-2024 in the midst of agitation by casteists against the announcement of Sangeetha Kalanidhi Award by Chennai Music Academy to TM Krishna. Explanations were given at the end of the seminar for the questions raised.

Mr expert in Ilayarajas music there is ethos, raga, rhythm, porul feelings it is complete music in its innovative glory. This genius himself says his music is a vinyasa of sounds no feelings no emotions just circus of shabgdaas. Feelings will come for people with fine feeling not machines

No one discussing about Pa Ranjith’s margazhin makkal isai which is the counter culture. These people just talk ill about ilayaraja and get claps. Ilaiyaraja mastered and did whatever he wanted to do with Carnatic music. These group always praises Brahmin militancy and puts down daliths conveniently.

thats the prb. here they discuss abt why/how karnatic music were stolen from common people and how they secluded it. music shd be common for all. here you are saying "makkal isai" why no one talks abt it? so common people shdnt learn karnatic? your comment indirectly means leave the karnatic music, have what you have. and i dont see where they have praised brhmins in this. if you have place let me know the time stamp.

@@aryann4570 Read properly I said Brahmin militancy and that’s what TM Krishna doing. But these groups always let down likes of Ilayaraja & Pa Ranjith when they counter so called Brahmin arts. Ilayaraja used Carnatic music wisely and democratised it and Pa Ranjith bringing our folklore like parai, oppari, tribal music to forefront conducting festivals that too in Music academy. These group never talk or praises that but when a Brahmin raises his voice they give unprecedented support.Hypocrites of highest order.

Regarding state of Brahmins in Tamil Nadu indeed is bad.. basic respect for any citizen is not offered to the section of society The speakers are talking of events of past . Now it’s laughable that 3% of population are causing such angst…it’s improper to,continue this argument whilst the Dravidian parties have totally made the “parpanars”life impossible and drive them out.

Had Ilayaraja perhaps insulted Thiyagaraja swamy and other stalwarts of Carnatic music and his guru’s, people would have thrown out him Because Ilayaraaja didn’t compliment and commend Periyar’s work on lord Rama, Ilayaraja is seen as a steward of Music - wherein the other person for cheap fame, he praised EVR who had insulted Lord Rama by garlanding him chappals and slaughtered the sentiments of Hindus, being a disciple of Thigaraja swamy who worshipped lord Rama till his last breath - it’s an insult in him if the other person praises EVR - it’s a complete disrespect to the music lineage hence people are boycotting - it’s our prime right - no one can tell anyone to respect someone - if EVR can insult Lord Rama, anyone can insult EVR toooooooo- why are you guys getting angry ?????

DO NOT disturb a hornet's nest. 🛑 Let people live in peace and harmony. 🫂 Music must unite people and NOT divide them. Most of such problems are caused by complexes... both Superior and Inferior. We only need a spark of hatred to go back to that period of EVR where people felt threatened and unsafe, just because they belonged to a community. The whole world respects and celebrates Bhagavad Gita which has answers for all the problems of Life.... except those in T.N The whole country knows Hindi except those in TN. Who is the ultimate loser? Who is forced to seek jobs in his own state? Who is forever riding happily the proverbial "Gunduch chattiyil kuthirai???" 🐎

Dear brother and sisters please do not listen to people like Maruthaiyan. He is a rabid hater of peaceful coexistence between communities. Owing to people like Maruthaiyan and co today Carnatic music is almost out of TN. 40 years back all the great vocal and non vocal carnatic music performers were from TN. Today AP ,Telangana along with Kerala and Karnataka are beginning to top. This is happening owing to deep dislike for Carnatic music in TN. DK and EVR gangs linked Carnatic music to Iyer and Iyengars. The hatred for Iyer and Iyengars has been linked to Carnatic music as well. In another 30 years we would hardly have any leading Carnactic music vidwan or vidushi from TN. This is what DK and EVR gangs want to achieve. How many of you have approached an Iyer or Iyengar for Carnatic Music training? How many have been rejected training by Iyer or Iyengar? The sabha ticket is open to all. How many have gone for such shows? Why is DMK controlling MA? Why bring politics to music? Tamil musician use Carnatic Music in Movies. Has it been stopped by Iyer or Iyengars? Music is for everyone. Allow Carnatic music to survive and Prosper in TN.
