In Hungary calls it krémes, one of my favorit dessert. And here is another witch one called franciakrémes / frenchcream. On the custard is whipped heavy cream and on the top of pastry layer is a touch of caramel gloss. Yummi😊

Can i question your baking temp for the pastry , i tried it at 150 C as per your written recipe no way does it cook , i then researched other versions and most said to bake at 200 c 20 plus minutes.

Showing my learning curve here as a first time cooking geek!…why does the butter go in last? Why not mixed in with the flour & eggs? Does it matter?

Interesting, this makes me think of a typically Dutch pastry called a ‘tompoes/tompouce’ which is crème Suisse or pastry creme between two layers of puff pastry and topped with a thin layer of pink sugar glaze. They are rectangular instead of square but nevertheless look quite similar to these vanilla slices.

This looks very similar to the Greek dessert called galactoboureko which I've made before. However it uses phyllo dough instead of puff pastry. Anyone having had it knows how yummy it is. Look it up!

I have been looking for a great custard dessert recipe! How hard do you think it’d be to turn the vanilla custard into a chocolate custard? Thank you so much!
@rozerinalbayrak42293 жыл бұрын
make the same recipe. let it cool. then take a bit of ur vanilla custard and heat it a little bit up. just so warm like ur body temperature and mix in ur melted and tempered chocolate. now mix everything together. then u will have it in the chocolate version:)) if ur vanilla custard is too cold ur custard will have chocolate pieces in it like stracciatella ice cream. u wont have a smooth custard. :)

Yes, it is "kremówka papieska". Or named "napoleonka". Popular in Poland. Available at any pastry shop. I'm curious how it is made here in Scran Line :) Certainly delicious too :D

I made this according to the recipe but the custard didn't turn out firm enough. Not sure why. I used extra large eggs so am thinking maybe that's why?
@effie52383 жыл бұрын
You could also make this using phyllo dough. :)
@thescranline3 жыл бұрын
I didn't even think of that! You totally could!
@alangeorgebarstow4 ай бұрын
A proper vanilla slice needs a thin layer of icing on top, not just a dusting of icing sugar. And you certainly do not need to add any butter to the crème pat (confectioner's custard).

I left this vid right about where "no one has time to make puff pastry"... People like to make things complete ..if you do not have time to show that ... then maybe it is beyond your skill level making you last person to teach anyone anything. The only difficult thing about making vanilla slice is making the pastry ... You dont need to be a rocket scientist to make egg custard. You waste peoples time.
