I am Christian and had a random strange urge to want to start wearing a head covering. This felt like a craving honestly. And this is not the first time God has communicated to me in this way. So I felt like this was God communicating with me and trying to tell me something, and so I went into my Bible to look it up and looked at a few different scriptures to find consistency for charity. I then came to the realizations that YES! as Christian women, we are supposed to be modest and cover our head during prayer, prophecy and when married. Now in the year 2024, the Christian faith and the churches have been so watered down and luke warm that we lost sight of God's true word. We avoid it even! I've come to realize and learn that even pastor's intentionally avoid scriptures in the Bible because they don't want to steer their church members away, instead of being honest and true to God word. I really sat and thought about it and also realized God wants women to wear a head covering for her protection. To protection her from lustful men, from being Ingolfed in ones own vanity and need for external attention that can lead us to sin, and protection from the enemy influencing our minds and thoughts while praying and prophesying.

This comment hits home. I’ve been experiencing this same urge. What has really changed my perspective on my own faith walk is seeing myself and a couple of my friends consumed with appearances and vanity. It struck me how superficial and worldly that tendency is, and am currently doing a reset since the start of this year. I’d love to headcover more consistently, but the most consistency I’ve ever done is wear one for church- for the past 20 years. That’s never been hard, but my goodness wearing one daily is. Moral support can be hard to find sadly. Working on strengthening my faith and relationship with God to combat the enemy and my own pride.

May I ask if it refers to prayer alone also? Or is it prayer and prophecy in public? And where can I find in the bible that we have to cover the head when we are married? Thank you! I am new to this.

Hi friend! There is nothing that specifically says we must cover when we are married. There's no direct command from God that we have to cover at all. This is a teaching from Paul (with good reasons!) and I believe it came based on what the Hebrew culture did --- a regular practice of head covering, specifically for married women. Orthodox Jewish women today cover after they are married, so I'm not sure how far back this tradition goes. The passage in 1 Corinthians 11 seems to suggest that Paul was mainly referring to public prayer and corporate worship. My own opinion is that because we don't see this instruction given directly by God in His set of instructions to us (found in Genesis through Deuteronomy) that it was a practice Paul advocated to help believing women be set apart and to remind them of their covenant with YHWH (and the covenant with their husbands for married women). I have a play list on this channel with several videos regarding the practice and practicalities of head covering. Let me know if you need help finding it. Shalom!

I covered my head when I was first saved until I heard the Holy Spirit say "Your crown has been restored". Recently I have been starting a new project and I have been very discouraged and tempted to give in to the negative voices in my head. KZbin kept throwing up headcovering videos so I prayed about it, and my son interrupted my prayer time by waltzing in with a handkerchief over his head. Itwas the answer to prayer I was looking for. As soon as i started covering my head again I got an amazing clarity of thought and calm during prayer. I don't think everyone necessarily needs to cover their heads, but if you struggle with persistent negative voices, I would recommend it. It's like wearing a demon-proof hat all the time. It's so quiet in my head!

@@HopeCottage_Sarah Paul spoke by God's authority. God chose him as the apostle to the Gentiles. When it was not a command from God, Paul said so. Wearing a head covering is a command, it's not an option. If it were an option, there would be no need to say anything at all. The head covering symbolizes that the man is the head of the woman and lack of head covering for the man, that Christ is his head. It is because of the reverent, holy angels of God who watch us when we gather to worship. It is unseemly for a woman to pray to God uncovered.

You have been very respectful and kind to each individuals walk. My mom covered for years and years as we grew up and she said it was her own personal conviction. I have started to wear a head covering since January and I have been feeling a protection of angel. And I found myself liking it. It reminds me where I am standing and helping me watch my mouth and behavior. I also feel I am praying all day long and I want to pray all the time. I have been treated well by stranger men but not by (liberal) women who often react negatively and look at me with angry eyes. I don't judge them but they probably feel I am challenging them. I am not challenging their way of living but just living my life. They treats me as if I am a weird alien from another planet that they seem to feel fear. We all have a right to live according to our conviction and belief. They have right to live in a way they like and do do I.

I started covering back many years ago before I came to Torah. I had a friend in the church we attended who also covered. I eventually took it on, but not because I believed we were commanded. I believe the church he was speaking to at the time had a huge issue with women who were usurping the order of submission. I have covered off and on and purchased a lot of head scarves and such for my hair, but I have to say, I don't look nearly as cute as you do in one. LOL

I recently started wearing a head covering & I agree that it shows submission to the Lord & the church. I also love that by covering my "glory" (hair), all attention goes to God & His glory. I actually do believe it is a command because all scripture is God breathed. None of the reasons that Paul gives in scripture are cultural & in history most Christian women wore coverings. Women fell away from wearing head coverings due to the feminist movement in the 60s. There was a specific movement against it.

@@wendymtzc Actually the Greek word used to describe a head covering is specific to a external covering - see below: Verse four of 1 Corinthians 11 uses the Greek words kata kephalēs (κατάIn κεφαλῆς) for "head covered", the same Greek words used in Esther 6:12[229] (Septuagint) where "because he [Haman] had been humiliated, he headed home, draping an external covering over his head" (additionally certain manuscripts of the Septuagint in Esther 6:12 use the Greek words κατακεκαλυμμένος κεφαλήν, which is the "perfect passive participle of the key verb used in 1 Corinthians 11:6 and 7 for both a man's and a woman's covering his or her head [κατακαλύπτω]") - facts that New Testament scholar Rajesh Gandhi states makes it clear that the passage enjoins the wearing of a cloth veil by Christian women.

@@melissabrown3976 doesn’t kata mean head and kephales down? How does it turn into veil, hair makes just as much sense, I’m not a Greek expert and I highly doubt you are so let’s not pretend we understand all the nuances of a completely unknown language, if we were supposed to wear a veil we would have been given specific instructions to do it properly, yet that’s not what we see, some women hide every single strand of hair, others wear a tiny piece of cloth on top of their head… and let’s not forget other scriptures such as: in like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; but (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works… why worry about braided hair if it’s supposed to be covered anyway
@defendingthegospel721
@defendingthegospel721 3 ай бұрын
@@wendymtzc You are right one cannot interpret the word "covered" as a veil or cloth etc. Often people will just turn to how some women wore veils in the past and with no other biblical evidence attach that here. What should be evident about long hair being the covering is the fact that hair is referred to in one way or another for a total of 7 times (hair 3x and shorn and shaven 4x) if one were to read the KJV. And at no time would you read anything that says cloth or hat or veil. It just refers to the action of covering the head and clearly long hair fits the mold.

Thank you for sharing your story. You are correct in women being convicted. I didn’t even know Christian women practiced head covering when I prayed for God to help me with my pride/control issues and learn to let Him lead and my husband be more of a decision maker. Holy Spirit immediately showed me 1 Corinthians 11, which I had never read. Then for 2 months everything I searched online, be it a recipe, homeschool video, homeopathic medicine, or cleaning routine, all had head covering content creators. Yes, my pride and control sins were so strong it took 2 months of daily reminders for me to attempt wearing my first covering. It was freeing! The symbolism was a great reminder that I don’t have to be the “head.” I can ask for help. I also notice that when I wear one to bed, specially due to prayer sessions, I don’t remember having demonic dreams. I also feel more confident in my appearance and love that the wind is no longer bothering me (I despise the wind blowing my hair around and my boys and I are outside a lot between homeschool lessons). Also, thanks for sharing the links for purchasing head coverings. I’m saving them for my next clothing haul.

For her hair is given to her as a covering. -NASB A woman's long hair is the 'covering'. If a fabric covering is actually required, then all references to hair are totally irrelevant to the subject. It only can make sense if the long hair of a woman is the 'covering'. She should be covered, with her long hair. To have short hair, like a man, means that she is basically bald. Therefore uncovered.

Some women like to wear a headband, cap, hat or even a hair tie that contains the Ten Commandments in order to obey Deut. 6:8-9. Because it says it is for the children and not just men or women. It normally doesn't cover all the hair as Paul describes. Those coverings are come to be known as the armour of God. There are eight pieces that many are seaching for. There is the head, both hands, the belt, breastplate, heart and feet. Exactly what are they, what do they contain? Jesus tells us that if we love Him to keep His words for they are spirit and they are life, Maybe that is the spirit we are to walk in. We just need more work and workers.

We can be convicted by the Holy Spirit to do meaningful things that aren’t necessarily commands in the Bible. If it doesn’t contradict scripture then why do you have a problem with it? Head covering is mentioned in scripture as something that was done. It has been done throughout all of history. It’s only recently that it stopped. No one here is trying to force it on anyone. There is no need for anyone to take offense and “stand up” against this.
@robertmiller812
@robertmiller812 4 ай бұрын
The Bible says that the Holy Spirit would confirm Jesus's teachings not someone else's interpretation. Plus putting on a hat is not a "meaningful thing" To claim that putting on a hat or veil is needful then it DOES contradict scripture. I also lament how people claim that Head covering (as a doctrine not as some random verse) is mentioned in scripture. Some people wore a head covering in the Bible and some people didn't. One can read about all sorts of things that were worn but it doesn't provide evidence that it was doctrinal. Same thing goes if several people wore something on their heads throughout all of history. The Bible says in Acts 7:47-51 many people though that temple building was acceptable but according to God's attitude it wasn't but YET the people did so anyway for centuries. So does the logic of many people following a doctrine or belief for a long time make it ok to continue in this?? It is irrelevant if women wearing hats only recently stopped, because if it cannot be proven through scripture then what does that matter? Though it may SEEM like no one is trying to force it on anyone, but there are always conversations that make one feel guilty or that they are missing out on something that is a form of MANIPULATION. So there is a NEED to take offense and “stand up” against this, especially if it CANNOT be biblically verified as a doctrine. In the end it is someone's interpretation that hat is necessary for women to wear.

It was commanded in 1 Corinthians 11, but even before that it was Jewish custom. You can see that with observant Jewesses today. Orthodox Jewish women still cover their hair when they get married. It starts with the bridal veil, but then after they spend time alone with their spouse after the wedding, they are required to wear a head covering of some kind. Some women will wear a wig. Others will wear a snood. They are required to cover all of their hair. When St. Paul commanded it he was speaking for God because all of the Bible has equal weight. St. Paul wrote it and was divinely inspired to do so. He was writing it to a church within the larger Church where women were not covering their heads. He wanted all women to cover their head at least in church. He said in the end that if anyone is inclined to be contentious, we have no such custom here. In other words, we have no custom of praying uncovered. St. Paul was one of the first bishops of the early Catholic Church. All churches within his diocese, except for the one, women practiced covering their hair. However this custom was meant for church primarily. It was practiced throughout Christian history until the modern age. Women always covered their head until about the Victorian era where they would only wear it in church and when they went out in public. Then it became only in church in the 1950's. By the 60's it became seen as optional because of women's lib. Women's lib killed the centuries-long practice of head coverings. My church requires them in church but it is optional outside of Mass. It makes sense to me, though, that women should be wearing them daily as they did until the Victorian era. Nuns still wear a veil all day every day as part of their habits.

My hair just went down hill in my 60s!😭😭😭😭 I cried my eyes out. Then i learned hijab from YT hijabis. The muslim way is the gold standard for full coverage headcovering. Then a little side trip to the Israeli side, where i settled into a long veiled tichel, commonly sold pretied, everywhere. Easily converted to full coverage hijab, or tied on top in hot weather. So, I didnt do it for religious, though traditions run very deep. Ive been under a scarf 4 years now, and my hair is growing back. Since i wear it full time, i feel uncomfortable without it. For summer, i use stretch lace. Yep, its great! Im doing my part to normalize scarf wearing again. Nobody cared in the 1950s. I say, scarf up! People get over it pretty quick, especially in your hometown. Sure, my dentist had a great time with his "terrorist" patient! And then everybody got over it. Yep, theyre bored. And YOU ARE FREE!!!

2 Tim 3:16 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: It is a command by God, As Christians we must believe everything that is written and not to take it lightly :)

I agree, friend, that we should take nothing lightly. Our God has allowed this collected Bible to exist and teach us for good reasons! But we also must understand history and how our collected Bible came to be. At the time 2 Timothy was written, the only Scripture was the law and the prophets. The New Testament wasn't compiled yet. When Paul wrote these words to Timothy, he was referring to the law and the prophets. 🥰

The head covering on the woman is an expression of the woman symbolically the church and the lack of covering on the man is symbolic of Christ. The covering and the non-covering in the genders is a picture of Christ and His church. It has nothing to do with the submission wife to the husband. The wife walks along with her husband as her leader but she is not under him, she is under Christ. No man should ever take the place of Christ in the believer's life, whether it be man or woman. The man leads by example and teaching not as an authority over. To be the authority over someone else the man would be taking the place of the Holy Spirit. Women are to submit to their husbands as we all are to submit to others in general, but only if those we submit to are submitting to Christ. We are never required to submit to anyone who is telling us to disobey Christ.

That's right. Covering your head as a female isn't a sign of submission to anyone but God. Transcends the abrahamic religions. Wear it proudly as Mary's contemporaries did! Nothing says you're a girl like a nice scarf. I wear mine full time. The shower was a joke. You know, "hijab and shoulders"? We can wear a scarf and have a sense of humor at the same time!

We have been set free from the law. Galatians is full of scripture about this. I, a Gentile, have no desire to become a Jew. Wearing a covering will not send you to hell. I just know there is a lot of bandwagons that people are jumping on in this day and age and that “thing” becomes popular and everyone is doing a video about it. A big one is trying to keep the law and basically become a Jew. The precious name of my God is Jesus and it irks me when people call him something else. This lady is probably a precious person but the Bible talks time and time again about being set free from such things. We are saved by grace, and it is a gift from God. We cannot establish our own righteousness. Been there. Tried to do that. Was set free. All of our righteousness is as filthy rags. Peace.

I'd encourage you to watch the series I've been putting out regarding the book of Galatians. You've made a lot of assumptions here about my faith and motivations. I think it's important we inform ourselves before we speak too freely.
