@BryJovi175 ай бұрын
I mainly agree, however it's just free market capitalism. Anything can be sold at whatever someone else is willing to pay for it. Same applies for the value of property, cars, antiques, etc. What I do think should be stopped is people that only buy tickets to make a profit. There should be mechanisms built into the sale of tickets that require names linked to them - this way when you're buying as a gift for someone without them knowing you can attach their name to it. If you're wishing to resell you would need to work with the original ticket seller company to modify the name on the ticket to the new holder after sale, which can only be achieved via two way communication. For ticket resellers trying to make profit this will make it more difficult as most of the time they don't know the name of the people they're selling to.

The whole industry is in big trouble, bands are making most of their money nowadays by touring and that's the other reason tickets are so expensive, they don't make money selling physical copies anymore because of streaming and if you're not a super popular artist then your band doesn't stream like a Taylor swift, so you make no money streaming either, people need to remember that if you stream all your music, you don't actually own it and one policy change or missed payment and your whole collection is gone, do yourself a favor and buy cd's or records and help save the industry.
@TheRealTomLauda5 ай бұрын
Yeah, i don't like streaming. I'm old school and still buy albums (often twice: vinyl if available, and dematerialized). Also, streaming has changed how musicians delivers their music. Tickets are obviously too expensive for how broke everyone is. But even more so than that it's the venues overcharging for everything and anything. I'd love to go to a bunch of shows and support artists I like, but it's not realistic with the amount of money venues are expecting after you've already overpaid for tickets. More bands need to embrace streaming and doing more shows like that, free and ppv events. Over the past few years I've paid for more ppv concerts (usually around $15 flat) than I've been to actual concerts, and it couldn't be more worth it. Sure you miss out on the "experience" of going to a live show. But I don't have to travel out of state or sell an arm and a leg to have a decent time at the show. Also knowing the venues get a cut of the merch on top of all their other schemes is just abysmal

Tour buses are prohibitively expensive post Covid. They were bad before, but it's absurd now. The revenue splits at venues are also severely thinning out what bands are earning. I remember around 10 years ago, a few bands cancelled tours to Australia because they were losing money on the deal. Apparently, that's just the norm now, unless you can fill a football stadium every night. Ticketmaster should not be posting record profits when so many acts are cancelling tours.

Everyone bashed Lars when he went after Napster for illegal downloading. He was right. This is the damage it caused and this is the end result. You cheap fuckers don’t want to buy our album? Okay, well guess what? You’re not seeing us play for $50, it’s now going to cost you $150, that Metallica tour shirt you want that costed $30, well we have to charge $60 now for it. Bands have to make up for that lost revenue from lack of album sales, where do you think they’re going to make that lost revenue? They make it back on touring and merchandising. It’s very expensive to tour. It’s not cheap. These bands have a lot of overheard and still need to come home from the tour with some cash in their pockets too.

And it doesn't help that everywhere the price of living has gotten outrageous and most of us can barely afford to pay rent and food let alone go to a concert

I can only afford to go to about 4 shows per year. Out of those shows, I can only afford to buy merch at one of them. Can’t afford beer or food at any of them.

@@RockFeeda lot of bands are doing low ticket prices like that at smaller or decent sized venues. I saw Slaughter To Prevail last year for $25. Mushoomhead for $30, and $40 for this Halloween show in October. It all depends on the greed of the venue or the band in the end. These arena shows are ridiculous.

@@Kiss_The_Bullet dig this .. I bought the tickets from the venues box office thinking I’d cut the middle man out , and Ticketmaster still got a $30 cut So the venue charged 30 … and so did Ticketmaster. Turned out to be $60 a ticket. Still not complaining honestly but it was an unexpected jump

There’s a bit of controversy over the Oasis reunion show ticket prices. Wembley Stadium Seating £76.25 - £206.25 ($100.41 - $271.60) Standing £151.25 ($199.17)

3:30 sales up compared to 5 years ago. Like you mean 2019? When the world shut down in March for the rest of the year? Also: $4-500 AVERAGE concert ticket prices? And you are wondering why sales are down, and tours are being cancelled??

Every box office I go to in person has no Ticketmaster fee so that's how I get around that. I haven't bought tickets from Ticketmaster's site all year because of this. Then again, I can't afford to go to many shows anymore as is.

Police Picnic in 81 (in a farm field outside Toronto) cost 20 bucks Canadian. For that you got Police, Go-Gos, The Specials, Iggy Pop, Killing Joke, Oingo Boingo , and Nash the Slash. Not a bad deal

And it costs $184 for ONE TICKET in the “cheap seats” for this Def Leppard tour.💺 I went last time to see them on the make up tour in 2022 (I think it was). I had bought a ticket in the exact same baseball park in San Francisco for $88, I kept my ticket and went. My ticket was in the first section off the field, Stage Right. Those same tickets now cost $500 or more. Plus it’s $20-40 for parking at the ball park. I went solo last time because my partner didn’t care much about the lineup, not his favorite bands, and we wanted to save some money, ha ha! 🤣

I just sold my Loserville tickets for this weekend at $12 a ticket. I can't believe they're selling lawn seats for $45 each. The whole show doesn't even look half sold. The last 2 concerts I attended (New Kids On The Block, Yellowcard/Third Eye Blind) this year were sold to badly that each shows shut down the lawn seats and forced us into the seats which still didn't look full midway into the show.

I saw Tank The Tech interview Christopher Bowes of Alestorm, and they echoed the same second of high prices. In Tanks own words, "Most artists are maybe looking to break even on their tours", with Chris adding that its the reason who big European bands like Stratovarius, Nightwish, and other power metal bands don't play over here in the U.S.

The box office successes of "Deadpool & Wolverine" and "Inside Out 2," each earning a billion dollars within weeks of each other, underscore a clear trend: consumers are becoming increasingly discerning and less willing to take risks on lesser-known or lower-quality options. This consolidation around high-profile, top-tier productions indicates that audiences are prioritizing proven value and are more cautious with their spending. This shift could have broader implications, suggesting that businesses and creators might need to focus on delivering exceptional quality and strong brand recognition to capture and retain consumer interest.
