At least in the US, I think the illusion of safety plays a role. This is especially true if they are surrounded by a bunch of larger vehicles. I work in an area with tons of truckers, and there have been a few times where I’m one of the only sedans on the road. On the producer’s end, I’d compare it our housing market. Both SUVs and larger houses have higher profit margins compared to smaller models, and the US has enough space to make both of them more viable for more buyers here. So even if most people here don’t strictly need the space for more children or an extra office, they’ll go bigger because that’s what they can access. I also think that to a lesser extent, the comfort factor some Americans cite might have to do with the obesity rates here. My father weighs a little under 400 lbs, and he can barely fit into my sedan’s passenger seat.

@nunyabusiness3786Obviously, it’s still possible to lose weight on any diet - just eat fewer calories than you burn, right? The problem with this simplistic advice is that it ignores the elephant in the room: hunger. Most people don’t like to “just eat less,” as it may result in having to go hungry forever. Sooner or later, many will likely give up and eat without restriction, hence the prevalence of “yo-yo dieting.” While it should be possible to lose weight on any diet, some appear to make it easier and some to make it much harder. The main advantage of the low-carb diet is that it may cause you to want to eat less. Even without counting calories, overweight people tend to eat fewer calories on low carb. Thus, calories count, but you don’t need to count them.

Most people absolutely do not care about the environment at all. If you asked them in a poll, most of them would even say that they do care for the environment, but their actions show that they really don`t. After talking with many people I manage to get most of them to admit that they don`t really give a shit, at least not enough to give up on anything they like. Even people who believe in climate change and that it is bad, most of them don`t really care enough to change their life style and reduce their consumtion. No, instead they expect politicians and corporations to come up with a magical solution, that will allow them to keep on consuming as usual without having a guilty conscience. It has become quite popular to tell each other that the "ecological footprint" is a lie, so they don`t feel the need to reduce their consumption, which totally plays into the hands of corporations. People blame and shit on corporations, but don`t like it when you tell them to not buy their products, because most people like to buy stuff and they don`t like to be told that their actions have bad consequences. People really don`t want to take any personal responsibility. And worst of all, many liberal and eco channels also started to say things like recycling and your ecological footprint is bullshit, which just makes people not try to do better at all. Your ecological footprint is real though and recycling when well done works and is really needed. Corporations are not Captain planet villains who pollute the environment and emit CO2 just for fun, they do it to sell us products. Products we buy. And because we buy them, because of our insane demand, the result is more environmental destruction. There is no magical technology. Everybody needs to take personal responsibility. Problem is that most people really don`t care. And even those who claim to care are not willing to do their part. And that`s why it`s getting more and more hopeless. Those who try to change their lifestyle eventually give up, simply because others won`t and therefore they feel like they are doing it in vain. Instead of discouraging each other from reducing consumption, we need to keep on encouraging people to do their part. Because that`s the only way to turn it around. But sadly, it looks like most people really want to drive the car off the cliff, hoping that by some miracle a bridge will appear right when we reach the edge.

Why does everyone dance around the answer like this? People like being audacious and throwing caution into the wind. It's the same effect people seek when they take a selfie of them standing in front of an approaching train--look mom I'm putting myself in danger...aren't you shocked? They used to call it shock value when I was a preteen, and when you accused a young woman of using shock value, they would get angry, because it was something children did. But as far as adults and SUVs it's more like the shock value of hurting the environment and telling the world you don't care, in fact you like to anger whoever you can. If you tell Americans that SUVs are exacerbating climate change, they will pat themselves on the back.

I still didn't get the answer when looking around: why car manufacturer nor the government research on lighter, smaller and slower automatic driving vehicle ? A lightweight Velombile with the automatic driving system travel ~30km/h doesn't need much "safety features" and the vehicle will weight less than 60kg. With the person in there, a total weight of less than 200kg doesn't do much damage on the road, and it is small and hardly cause congestion with unused dead space and weight. for example, all those "micro car" that show in this video link : kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGaQnqt7qLOMY7s are still too heavy, too fast and not safe during a crash.

FASTER? Hate to break it to you, but speed isn't solely dependant on horsepower and torque. Speed can be affected by weight, aerodynamics and handling characteristics. A 200HP hatchback will outperform an SUV with double the power output simply because of the power to weight ratio. This just goes to show that car companies and their marketing teams are doing an excellent job at bamboozling the masses into thinking that SUVs are superior. They are not superior. They are good at fulfilling certain needs but not all. If you really want performance, always look for a balanced power to weight ratio. SUVs look like they have power but they also weigh a lot more than sedans, hatchbacks and estates. Essentially, if you want something with above average ground clearance, decent boot space and a high seating position, by all means, buy an SUV. If you want performance, opt for anything but an SUV.
@C1K450 Жыл бұрын
Hybrid and turbocharged 4CYL performance SUV’s/Crossovers are going to be the new trend for car enthusiasts. There’s barely any new affordable sports cars for enthusiasts on the market except For a 2022-2023 BRZ/GR86 and Civic Type R/Si. They are beginning to phase out V8 engines, Hellcats, Kia Stingers, Veloster N, Subaru STI and they are rolling performance crossovers like the Dodge Hornet R/T which is a hybrid turbocharged 4CYL and a Hyundai Kona N with turbocharged 4CYL. However I think the Kona N is badass and makes up the loss of our beloved sports sedans/coupes being phased out.

Exactly, having a big engine but sub-par aerodynamic is literally a truck. Even a truck is better because they have excellent torque and thick tires to do its jobs. Meanwhile, modern SUV cars are just like a confused person because they have monocoque bodies and FWD that are actually worse for off-road and don't offer much torque. Then, it also has slim tires that have nothing to do with bad tarmac. And why do they say these SUVs offer speed and torque if that car from its design literally can't do that😅
