Displex (which I reckon is the exact same fine acrylic polishing paste sold by the very same company in the same tube with a different design) has helped me with more than one radio dial cover, as well as a clear plastic soap holder that someone must have attacked with coarse scouring means in the past. I would definitely give it a shot if I had to save a badly scratched CD. On a side note, I bet they're buying the stuff by the bucketload and making a pretty penny selling it in 5g tubes... but it does work well.

If its anything like my house they get given to the youngest in the house and they do unpredictable things. I have a pink lite that ny 3 year old decoded to dunk in a bucket of water while I was doing aquarium stuff, power cut out instantly thought it was a gunner then 2 weeks late ri randomly test it and it comes alive.

Great, but really, again, vinegar is the way to go to dissolve and THEN use alcohol to clean the vinegar. Rust, lime scale, battery leak => vinegar :)

Two tips = 1) To polish the screen, try a foam ball buffer bit on a rotary tool/dremel, to apply the cleaning paste... Similar to a car electric buffer. 2) If your glasses have transition lenses, have your eye doctor give you a prescription for soldering glasses = A single focal length that is strong, but long enough to get a soldering iron in under your nose. For me (far sighted,) that is about +4, for a distance of about 12"/300mm. I have been spreading the word on YT and everybody loves them. No more chasing the narrow band that is in focus.
@nikkiofthevalley
@nikkiofthevalley 9 ай бұрын
Huh. Once I get some glasses (I'm nearsighted, but not nearsighted enough to matter except when soldering small components) I'll probably ask about that.
@morgan0
@morgan0 9 ай бұрын
i’m a bit too nearsighted to comfortably solder with my glasses off. would be pretty hot that close, and i don’t want to splatter flux or solder into my eyes lol. 12 inches would probably be fine, im closer to like 4 or 5 inches of focus distance
@t1d100
@t1d100 9 ай бұрын
@@morgan0I'm so sorry; I don't understand. I was not suggesting to not wear glasses. I was suggesting that for people that wear transition lenses, they get a single prescription, so they do not have to chase the proper, narrow field of view. And, that the focal distance be long enough to accommodate a soldering iron. I hope that helps. Maybe you were just joking with the prior commenter?

Good stuff! Might be worth investing in an ultrasonic tank for cleaning up liquid damage and flux residue. Fill it with IPA (initially expensive but will last a while before it needs changing) and they work really well. A good brand of display polish is Displex but not sure if it’s still available.

Good job on the cartridge slot connector. I would've tried to align it close enough and anchored it with some Kapton tape. Also, I'm sure you've used polywatch before, but it's good to keep in mind that the paste contains some acetone, for softening up the plastic, so cleaning it thoroughly after polishing is important, as well as keeping in mind to not use it on soft plastics, as acetone can be bit too harsh on those.
