The rub is that there is free energy which has been the biggest con against us all. Can you imagine the industry’s making huge profits by charging for the energy we all consume & the ramifications for humanity if free energy was available to all. Again it’s about control & profits.

The energy required to make the glass panels and transport them to site and install them on concrete is more than the panels generate as the panels are not 100% efficient, full sunshine is not constant, and lifespan reduces efficiency. Not to mention they pollute the ground they are installed on.

NOTHING is EVER 'cheaper to buy'. If it is really cheaper to MAKE OR SUPPLY then it is TAXED accordingly. RENEWABLES not only cost the taxpayer to install but we pay 24% tax for the privilege OF THEIR USE and the power provided attracts 5% VAT. I am old enough to remember that we were told NUCLEAR POWER WOULD BE FREE, YES, REALLY, FREE. IT NEVER HAS BEEN and we pay the above taxes for it now. Solar only provides power when there is sufficient LIGHT which is not at night and varies hugely in the daylight when it rains, snows, there is frost, when dirty and of course if it is cloudy.

Why are these solar panel companies not looking to all the very low quality land we have across the country to place these panels instead of taking up top quality production ground! Most of the Wind turbine are on this type of ground so why not combine the two forms of energy where you would reduce the cost due to having them all entering the grid at a single point rather than in separate places!

Having multiple sources of power seems like the way to go, farmers should continue to deliver their usual services, solar development should only take place where the residents are accepting of the solar plants in their town or property, their should be an awareness being made of the downsides to solar technology and the polution emmiting from this technology before implementing it, very important to know

I don’t know how true it is but I was once told there’s also another reason they do this, if you put a solar farm on green belt land after 10 years it is automatically reclassified as a brown field site, and I heard that these companies that lease these fields then offer the farmer “an offer that cannot be refused” for the land and then pull out the solar farm and build houses on it.

From Mining Today': 'Electrification of the global vehicle fleet would require 55% more new copper mines coming online by 2050, the     target year for net-zero emissions, according to a recent study published by the International Energy Forum. Even factoring out energy transition, the world will need to mine at least 115% more copper than has been mined in human history pre-2018 just to meet business-as-usual trends, the report added. Dr. Lawrence Cathles, an earth and atmospheric sciences professor at Cornell University who co-authored the study, said these findings point to a “disconnect” between the intentions behind decarbonization and the reality of the materials required.'

10 years as a subsidised solar farm and then the land can be built on because its no longer agricultural land. Win, win for the land owner, sorry "farmer".

See who the farmers weekly is owned by the Mark Allen Group. Strangely I can’t access them on Google and they come up with a 500 internal server page error. I found this blurb. Mark Allen is a group of operating companies, including MA Healthcare, MA Business, MA Agriculture, MA Education & Music, MA Exhibitions, MA Dentistry Media and MA Financial Media. Founded in 1985, the group has grown to be a global business with a team of over 400 talented people... Methinks there is more to this company than meets the eye.

We're continually told that the global population is in a rapid decline. It follows that farms will need to produce less food, so how are they a threat to anything?
@clovermark39

Yeh but who’s telling you that? Look at the source. They need farms to stop producing so food manufacturers can make fake food and they make more money from processed food.
