And this is why I only buy lined or dotted notebooks and I set up my own. I can get the paper I like, the layouts I like, the size I like, I can date them as I want and change them as and when I need to. I moved from A5 size into a TN at the beginning of August and I'm really loving having separate inserts for different purposes but all together in the one cover. Planners like Hobonichi and Sterling Ink are of no interest to me at all because I really dislike the thin paper, but I do get inspiration for my layouts from them.

It's all about FOMO...planners will sell out now, so if you do not have any idea then you are up the creek for next year. Very frustrating.

Some do sell out. But many actually don’t - just act like they will.

I agree. The worst part about it is how fast things sell out. By the time the planners arrive for a review on a channel like this one or Amanda's Favorites, etc I see the video review and get excited to try one only to find out they're sold out. I got an undated version but then I ended up jumping around with several different planners and now I've sort of settled into something that works well enough for now. Like you, I understand there's no dream layout nothing is perfect - I just haven't mustered up the time sink of going back to bujo to get the layout/pages the way I want - feels like that only worked for a different season of life for me.

I am a monthly planner so a wall calendar, monthly pocket calendar and my Google is all I need. I decided to make my own 2025-2026 pocket calendar (which is 50% completed). This way I avoid planner buying mania. I also maintain an A6 journal for trackers and memory keeping. Watching the planning KZbin community helps me to avoid FOMO.

You're not alone. Time jumping ahead seems to be how the retail world at large works now. Talking about 2025 planners in June is a symptom of that. Last year, I jumped the gun and bought my planner very early. My thought was I would be ready for the year way ahead of time. Big mistake. Currently, I'm loving my FCC customized inserts in my Moterm Luxe. For 2025, I'm waiting to see more about Franklinplanner's revamped Beautiful Life collection, Hemlock & Oak's horizontal inserts, and HP's collection. I do know that I will need a briefing book, personal planner/EDC, household management planner, and faith planner. Thank you for speaking up and sharing your thoughts.

I’ve stopped buying into the launch season. I have found what works for me in terms of personal planning (Kinbor Weekly) it’s my work planner I’m still jumping around lol but I can say with confidence I’m not looking for a work planner until Q4. 😅 I hope those who do buy multiple planners every year enjoy every planner they purchase and have no regrets or unused planner and that fomo doesn’t hit them too hard!

I honestly feel like the planner shops are partly to blame as well. They don’t have to release their products so early. They could wait. I used to buy into this and spent so much money and had so many planners that I never used. I now use the planner perfect method and don’t worry about it. Also I have a ring planner that I use for trackers and just fun stuff and sometimes try out some new type inserts that I print but still consistently use my planner perfect. For me it’s the best of both worlds. I have my consistency and no fomo and something to play with and try out some new fun things. But I’ve also gotten to where I don’t jump on the bandwagon and buy inserts from new releases just because everyone else is too. There are tons of free inserts to play with. 😊 Great video. Thanks.

Great video. I joined the planner community 8 or 9 years ago. Over the years, I tried out various planners, sizes, and styles. My system evolved into creating my own custom inserts. I spent so much time looking for what fit my needs and never found what I wanted; I always had to change my wants to fit the inserts/planners which frustrated me more than brought me joy. I have a few ring planners in various sizes, so when I feel a need for change, I shop my stash. I, thankfully, gave up the Hobonichi FOMO 2 years ago, and have such peace in August because of that. AND I save so much money. I don’t HAVE to have that paper; a Stalogy works as a great substitute for me. Sometimes I deconstruct and cut them down or apart them to fit what I want. Currently, I have Stalogy paper in my A5 rings and I love it. I buy different weight paper from Amazon and print a lot of what I use, either printables or my custom creations. I give myself permission to change up my planner style throughout the year to match my needs. I still archive it all together even though it’s not uniform. It is so peaceful to not have FOMO at this time of year. I will start thinking about 2025 in October/November so that I have time to play around with ideas before the new year starts. I’ve learned to relax, be flexible, and not get all wound-up and buttoned-down for the upcoming year in summer. I don’t like the pressure put on us to commit to a planner system so early…

Since I don't like Tomoe River paper (I know, heresy!) I have zero angst over ordering planners. I use blank notebooks instead (without TR paper)! I have learned from watching all the planner content (flips, comparisons, etc.) that I am a minimalist, functional planner, not a memory keeper or journaler (for me, those go into different notebooks and are not part of my planner.) I prefer to be full-on DIY and draw my own simple layouts with limited decoration. That being said, I have enough blank notebooks and inserts (in every size imagineable) to last me for decades! I

I'm an academic year planner so I'm usually immune to new year releases, except this year. I've always wished you could get a softcover Sterling Ink/Hobonichi style planner but with thick paper. Hemlock & Oak is making that this year, I ordered it like two months ago (talk about too early!). I'm excited but also kind of regretting, my current system is working great and I don't want to have to switch mid-academic year. Personally, I wish all brands would launch in summer!

First, I always love your thoughtful posts regarding planning. Your concerns resonate with me BIG TIME. That being said, I've decided to just "get off the train" this year and ignore Launch Season. I've flip-flopped so much in the past 8 months that I was afraid it might be a repeat of last year, when, at year's end, I just threw everything in a box, labeled it 2023 and taped it up. Never intended for that to happen, but I just got so disgusted with my inability to be consistent with a given format. For whatever reason, this month I've settled down, chugging along and will not change except to maybe incorporate what has already been tested and tried this year. I keep an empty ring planner with a specific section "Plannering", for any do-able ideas from other content creators. If I like one, I just create a mock-up (several pages, at most) of that format and "live in" it for about a week. No harm, no foul. Maybe it'll be for next year. Maybe not. There are SO many new journals this year and although I support the planner community, I just can't give FOMO any more headspace. I'm going to start to laser in on values-based goals and steps to fulfill those goals...i.e. functional, but pretty, too. Best quality I can afford, budget-wise. Oh, and try to give myself some more grace. As always, TFS!

The one advantage to ordering in Seotember is I absolutely need to sort this out before Halloween. Dealing with it in December would be a nightmare and I do not need that stress. But I am a one book person, and unless I end up absolutely despising a planner's setup, I will not buy again for another year.

Yes, I am bothered by it. I have enjoyed Sterling Ink this year, and want to continue in the books. So...I'm overthinking and committing to preparing my order. I'm a one-planner person. I used to buy one from Marshall's every year. Then, I spent four years in the Planner. So, I'm ok committing and making it work. What's done will be done. Bright side: I can spend the holidays prepping my planner instead of choosing it. I'll still be back to hear you talk about your systems. You inspire me :)

I am finally wise to the game now and am learning a tn with some plain journals in it to set up how I want is the way to go for me. I also don't work too far ahead anymore so that I can use the plain journals however I want if they don't eventually work out as a planner. The deal breaker for me now is thick paper vs thin. I don't like to see bleed through and only very little ghosting or ridging is ok.

Lol this was a great video. I love how you started it out. Are we really gonna???? 🤣 like all of you. I use many planners for many different things. I start them. I stop them. I change them. I go back to them. etc. To be honest I don’t really start thinking about the following year until it’s already January ha ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. I think my old reliable Franklin planner is why. I can order inserts from Franklin covey or daytimer to fit both my compact and classic size ring bound planners anytime of the year. I do watch some of the launch videos but I pretty muchignore them. If I decide the last minute that I want one of those and they’ve sold out, oh well. No matter what time of year it is there’s always a planner available. Erin Condren there’s another reliable one you can order almost anytime of the year or pick up at target. They never seem to run out of their planners. And even though I’m a planner, like you pointed out, I have no idea for one month to the next what planning system might suit me best. We were just thrown a monkey wrench on Tuesday, and now all of our plans for this fall have been put on hold in the anticipation of taking care of a parent who is facing an advanced cancer diagnosis. I can already see my planning needs changing. Thanks for the perspective… it gives one pause to think.

It’s because Hobonichi is now and it is such a big deal. That’s why I don’t do Hobonichi. But I AM excited for the TRC drop in October. Just the accessories though. Nothing dated. I keep an archive notebook in a Travelers Company Narrow Monthly insert. I have three years worth and I really love it. As I fill up notebooks and inserts, the one constant is the monthly.

Currently I enjoy the flexibility of my A5 rings. I do like the space it offers me. Also, since A4 paper is standard here in Switzerland, I can create/print pages quickly and efficiantly. It is a bit heavy to carry around though. I don't think, I'm going for a different planner at this point.

I love watching planning videos to see how others structure their time and to glean a spark of an idea here and there. I have escaped the FOMO trap and now just use what works for me. Since I schedule medical and other appointments months ahead, I bought my tried and true monthly/weekly planner for calendar based events in May at Chapters (like your Barnes and Noble). I use undated notebooks for the messy daily planning, for goal setting, for note taking, for any other topic that may arise. That gives me both the flexibility to try new ideas and the security of knowing that I have a trusted system to plan the date specific events. I also like the freedom of "Space" for all my ideas and journalling, not being confined to tiny boxes. I think my new "Words of the Year" are Master Gardener. Not the physical garden, but nurturing the spiritual gardens of my inner life and my relationships with others. That will include sensitivity to the still small voice, alertness to needs and empathy, communication skills, and priorities. Sowing seeds of kindness with patience and hope and persistence. Nourishing the soil with truth and inspiration. Being alert to the weeds and predators that would thwart the spectacular and abundant harvest.

However, I use Happy Planner and frankenplan, carrying three months in my main planner, which means I'd like to have my planner for next year by the end of October in order to have three months in my planner when we transfer into November. I have to be honest: I am thinking about 2025. And some things that will have a specific planner then are organised differently this year because I do not want to buy a notebook for 3 months. But I am going to test the option of a planner that I already own and I'm very excited about that, so I'm still intro 2024 as well. It is a bit disappointing that planners are gone at the end of the year though, that you have to think about it NOW. I do have the planners I want in my cart, but still haven't ordered because of this.

Cute nails and planner spread! The a5 would be so cute for bday reminders. I have an Amazon essentials daily planner. I used it for 2-3 years and I bought a new once recently. It’s somewhat formatted with boxes, but you can write your own dates. I cross titles off and use 2 pages for 1 week and divide up sections of my life like you did. I have a highlighter color that corresponds to each day of the week and I highlight stuff if I do part or all of the task. I am going back to school, but I am hoping my planner still can work for everything. The planner has a calendar view too, but I also use a big calendar for appointments and Google calendar. I do feel like brain dumps need more space though

I found myself going down the planner launch rabbit hole. Then I realized that 1) I don’t have extra money to spend on these expensive planners and 2) my life thankfully isn’t so busy that I have to really have a planner. I really just need a place to write down my weekly To Do list and schedule. The schedule I do in Google calendar and the To Do list could really be in any notebook. Because I am me and love all things stationary, I probably will get a planner but more than likely a random one from Target that or Walmart.

Because the theme is soo cute 🥰 and my child who I bought it for is moved out and now I’m still caregiving for my mother who has dementia symptoms… it’s not my “official” only planner, I’m creating us a keepsake I hope! I have many planner supplies too and I’m rethinking how I can utilize or donate these things and dated calendars will likely be tossed by others. The days of the week match for rest of 2019&2024, and only one day is shifted after February 2025 but I prefer the change to Sunday as first day so I’m just changing the days of the week to match the rest of 2025… not all old dated calendars will work but there’s a website to know when to try reusing them.

I started in December last year and it seemed like everybody already had their planner then and had already been setting them up. It took me till about March to get into a groove. I am torn between a couple options I might really want to buy, but I won't start to worry until mid October. Both print options are Hobinichi, so not overly worried about selling out. If they do, I can print my own like I have in the past. I just know my life goes crazy starting late November, goes into Hell in late January, and won't slow until the end of April. I prepare taxes professionally so tax season has to be ready not just in advance in my planner, but so does as much of my food as possible as meals prepped in my freezer, a wardrobe plan so I can work laundry in without fear of not having what I need when I need it, chores have to be as automated or reduced as much as possible.... and all the holiday stuff falls in that prep time. Along with this yezr possibly ending in a surgery so recovery time taking up a few weeks. I know they say people with ADHD need bright colors and constantly changing, but I need absolute consistency and the only color to be my color code where needed. Otherwise I can't focus or find what I need fast enough. It will derail me completely. I seriously have percentages memorized for printing the pages I used for Classic Happy Planner, letter, and half letter so I could print an extra page at work if needed. I have thin washi tape to mark columns for a lined page in my rocketbook to always be ready to use as a daily the way I have it memorized so it was ready to use and easy to archive on my phone for reference. I try my hardest to not change my planners during the year because then I feel the need to keep both up to date which is a nightmare even thinking about it. I wouldn't bother with a paper planner, but my digital one is mostly tablet function only for setting up, editing, or anything much beyond adding text. And grabbing my device increases the likelihood of falling down a rabbit hole rather than going to the planner. In the digital planner adjusting the pages if a layout draws my attention. I can more easily maintain both layouts without having 2 planners to maintain both while testing it to see if it improves anything or would cause me to have things falling through the cracks. All of that to say I stick to the same layout as much as possible so I can function. I have non-negotiables for layouts and can't function if things keep changing. I would rather leave a section blank than edit it out and have to move stuff around so I can't find what I need at a glance.

I totally agree that your planning needs change - they of course over time with different seasons of life. You don’t generally know this until it happens and then you sometimes have to pivot but those big changes imho aren’t as frequent and you have to roll with it and experiment at the time to find the new best fit. But they also change seasonally throughout the year. I’ve found that I don’t need to change my overall system for those seasonal changes I just just need to change how I’m using my system. Tweak the layout, change my EDC/carry option stuff like that. My main planner system doesn’t need to be replaced and what I pick for the year can work and hang with me until the next season. I just change her up some. For me deciding what I need in my overall system is pretty straightforward in that I know the basics of what I need and the sizes I like so deciding early works fine. But I also know that I like to change things up but need structure. So finding a planner that has enough structure but that I can also make my own is important. I also know I don’t have the time to setup a bujo and I need a printed planner but I can use what I learned bujo-ing in a printed planner. And I can use half year planners to get a refresh mid year without a complete overhaul. To me a lot of the planner season issues the last couple years are that so many focus on the exterior of the planner or what’s trendy or looks cute vs the actual function. Then they buy things that don’t work for them or overbuy for fear of missing out on a cute color or fun size and not focusing on what the planners job is and what they actually need.

I have an A5 scripture study Academic Year (I wish I had gotten a B5 but I'm kinda married to it until its done because the plan is to have it and the journals that make up additional pages bound each year so ai can have a NT part 1, 2 etc for my line by line study. I have a B6 academic year memory keeper that I've burned through almost all the note pages on and plan to get a B6 two part for memory keeping next year with extra B6 journals. New for next year is a B5 vertical work (editing projects and major sales for my clients) and B5 horizontal creative planner for writing for me. I've got an N1 Jesus Journal and a B5 new to me about to start reading Journal. I really need to start a channel to help keep me accountable lol.

Ror work, my setup doesn't change,. I buy next year's set when available and put it in box until November. I set up in November; December is too hectic. Got laid off in October this year, right after I bought my 2025 set. I've no idea what will happen next year, so...... (shrug) I have plenty of generic, undated variety for home tracking; I tweak it every year. It will have to be my work horse for now.

I wish they'd launch and ship the planners earlier. I plan in blocks Sep-Dec, Jan-Apr, May-Aug. I like to have 2 blocks forward available in my printed planner. Quarterly planners don't really work for me. The breaks are in the wrong spots. Neither does Academic because the included months are wrong. I do yearly planning but I want it in my hands to start populating it by late July or early August. This means when my planner arrives mid October I feel a few months behind already. With the new releases mid year at least I know what to expect if I'm switching systems and hopefully have a few pages printed so I can fill them out and tape them in. It's why I adore Hemlock and Oak. They offer free printable versions of all their planners. I already have my essentials for 2025 printed out and ready to transfer when my planner eventually arrives. The other part of my system is a notebook or notebooks. If I switch sizes I do it starting September 1st, but these are easy to source early.

Ive given up all together with the planner launches and i think im finally out of the bunny hole for getting a new planner. Im so confused and overwhelmed now midway this year using my b6 PTD planner, that ive flipped over to an a5 rings planner, as i can come and go, rip out and slip in paper inserts, and see how that goes. I was really into using a B6 size lanner and PTD was working for me for abit, but then ppl get all hyped up to get the newest planner and you are constantly watching how everyone elses planners look so aesthetically pleased, it makes my anxiety 10x worse. So, im not gonna buy anything new this year. Im sticking to my own stash, and using what i already have. I have been liking the a5 size, so i think im going to stick with rings or discbound for my edc, and if i want to start a journal, use a old one i havent used. Its getting too damn pricey and competitive, and with the economy as it is, I have to reign in on what makes sense to me, and spending 100s of dollars on planners, isnt a priority for me now.

I'm just happy to have started planning. I can't afford pricey planners and would much rather focus on messing up my cheap one without worrying about it.

Thanks for this video. I'm trying to not think of 2025 I feel like its too early for me. I have gotten a grip on what doesn't work well for me which helps the FOMO. I don't prefer tomoe river paper so all those adorable planners that use it don't tempt me as much. If its not available when I'm ready it wasn't meant for me.

For me it has to do with the school calendar. I dislike 18 month or academic year planners…..but now I have events I need to write in. It’s the ONLY reason I’m considering the new year. It IS too early, but I’ve decided most of my line up. I prefer TMR booklets, and no one has a 3 year monthly I could future plan in. It’s not FOMO for me.

Passionate Penny Pincher has thejr release on Sept 8. Its uaually on sale so I will buy that. It is a home planner and I am retjred so it fits. I really love EC but not their prjces so I wait till Feb for that. So I have one on the kitchen counter and one on the DR table. I love Planner Perfect but the price is too high. I also love Dajly Grind but sometimes I am too tired to plan daily. I really don't have much to plan but I love all the things. I also have a 5 year diary from Happiness File and I keep up with that . I am in my 3rd one of those.

Been thinking about 2025 since April. I have set up so many planners for 2025 already, thinking I KNEW my needs 😂 - fast forward to now and I will lose my mind with Hobonichi, Sterling Ink and Aura Estelle #RIPWallet. All these planners are amazing and I think I can always redate, she says, looking at her previous years planners gathering dust on her shelf… 😅 Thank you for your thoughts!

I was flabbergasted to see 2025 plans in July, and a little annoyed. Because most of these channels making these videos, I know by the time January comes around half of them will be on something different so they're just wasting money. I'm just over that as a viewer, personally.
