I graduated in 2012 and went to 3 different high schools..rarely did I use my locker in any one of them..schools often have multi buildings or multi levels..how are students expected to go from one part of the school to their locker thats on the other side and back to class thats again on the opposite side? And outside of home room its not common for your classes to be anywhere near your locker so making plans to head there while you are close doesnt work..also at the end of the day there is too much foot traffic to walk to your locker from your last class, and if you take the bus you may very well miss it just from taking too long trying to get your stuff. At least that was my expireaance.

How do you not have time to use it lol takes less than 20 secs to open (or 5 if you have a key) and less than 20 sec to put shit in ur bag or carry them with ur hands. I guess it depends on the school, went to high school around 2010 and kids were still using them.. I used mine like twice everyday, and my classrooms were like a mile apart from eachother, then I moved to another school my junior year and nobody used them.. we all could leave the textbooks in the class on a shelf and whenever we had hw that involves using the textbook we’d take them home. From what I’ve heard from my little brother teachers have more textbooks now so you don’t have to bring your own, or they don’t use them at all. They just use a projector so you can write notes down. Kids today are really soft lmao

Lockers aren't considered uncool at my high school, just no one uses them. I don't have time to go up 2 flights of stairs and across 3 buildings in hallways packed with hundreds to students (Literally so many in some areas that it is impossible to not be touching at least 3 people at once. Some of whom walk slow with no considerations for others) AND somehow go to my locker. I can barely make it to class as it is without a locker.

Literally everyone at my school uses their lockers. We have a senior lounge and in the lounge is where all of our lockers are. I decorated my locker so the entire inside is covered in pictures of my family and friends. I also keep stuff like binders, my winter boots, extra school supplies, food, drinks, perfume, my gym clothes and even a lawn chair that I keep at school so I don’t have to sit on the uncomfortable stools in the lounge. Here is why: 1. Schools are over crowded, my school was built for 1500, currently has 2900. There are only 800 lockers now because they cleared them out for study areas 2. Textbooks are online 3. 6 minutes isn’t even enough time to get to class when teachers let out late and expect the warm up to be done when the bell rings. You can’t even use the bathroom anymore 4. Lockers are not that safe 5. You are allowed to bring your backpack with you to class, unlike middle school where even laptop bags were banned. We were forced to before so we hate it now, simple human nature.

TheMilkman we get six because our school is the size of a small college campus (edit: including the distance from the main to the mods) It is a two minute sprint or 6 minute walk from the back doors to the modulars (trailers with 8-10 classrooms). If your classes are both in the building or both in the mods you are fine, but all freshman core classes (Math I A H, Math II H, English I A H, YA Lit, HS Writing, Biology H, Earth science A H, and some computer classes) are jn the mods. And electives and Math III are in the building so it is a pain.

And that’s not counting if the teacher is holding you back for any reason, like them still teaching even though the bell rung because the bell doesn’t dismiss you the do 🙄 but they also except you to be in your seat with your materials out ready to go before the bells rings. Or you need to go to the bathroom because teachers don’t let you go in class because you have PLENTY of time to do that during the passing period, but there’s like 10 people trying to go to the bathroom all at once because teachers don’t let you go to the freakin bathroom during class.

The reason why high schoolers (at least in my school) don't use their lockers is not because they're "uncool", it's because they're inefficient. Some schools are very old and haven't been renovated for many years, mine being the case. Some of the lockers are very finicky and get jammed. This makes it hard for students to open up their locker quickly enough, get to class on time, and go to the restroom or do something else in time. There's also the fact that even if they were in perfect condition, they would still be time consuming. If you had to go from class A and across the hall to class B, theoretically that would be a very quick transition, but what if your locker was on the other side of the school? You'd have to go there each transition period and change your materials. Futhermore, there is the fact that everyone would be using them, the lockers would be crowded for anyone getting into the lockers, going to their class and using the locker. It would be hell being in these locker zones. Finally, there is the fact that you might possibly put something valuable in your locker, if someone finds the code or is willing to break it open, there goes your stuff. This is especially common in public schools. In middle school you might see everyone using them, but never in high school. They just realized that there are too many cons and very little pros.

That's not the case in my school. Most high school students don't use a lock, but no one steals stuff from their locker, considering the fact that mostly everyone only puts their books or other school equipment in there, which would be pretty odd or dumb to steal.

I was usually excused from class as already knowing what was to be discussed or having the highest grade during the pop quiz and hence given a spare. On average, I would spend two hours in class over two days. My biggest problem was that I never knew when the tests were scheduled as that was always announced at the end of a class. I pretty much always had fifty minutes to make it to the next class but I pushed that to the limit by taking the train to the malls.

Lockers are optional in my school, but a little less than half the students use them. Lockers arent convenient unless you are loaded with AP Classes and homework, and even then people just have their backpacks

Freshman and Sophomore year I tried using lockers, but it's almost impossible to leave class, unlock a locker, and go to a different class in 5 minutes. Its way easier to just carry a backpack, and that way you can never forget anything for your classes in your locker. It cuts out the "middle man".

I'm in a school of 1400 people. We only have 4 minutes in-between classes, but since backpacks aren't allowed besides taking stuff to and from school, nearly everyone uses their locker. I go to my locker in-between all 7 of my classes and have no difficulty in getting to class. I don't like carrying around two textbooks and seven binders all day. I guess it just depends on how your school is set up though. And about your "middle man" statement, it isn't hard to remember what to bring to class when you do it every day. Its only hard at first when you have to think about it.

At the end of the day place the materials that you will not need at home in your locker thus lowering the weight of what you carry home. In the morning, visit the locker again to refill. If possible, visit the locker at lunch to break up your load. Have a first half of the day load of books and then swap out for the other half of the day. I did it all through high school and my school was rather large. I made it work. Also go to bed earlier.

Wow, i remember the times it was so fun to have your own locker, because they were the tall kind (not the small ones most schools seem to have now), you could decorate the inside how you want, place heavy textbooks in there, etc. Depending on where you had it is what made it cool or not. No one thinks is uncool to use a locker. Our school has two different buildings and the buildings themselves are big and classes are scattered you barely have time to go to you locker. If you have your locker at the end of school where you don’t go to most people have joint lockers with a friend who’s locker is closer to where your classes are. I used my locker since I took a bunch of ap classes, I also bring a coat in winter and a jacket on a daily since some classes are colder than others and I don’t feel like carrying it around. I also do a lot of after school stuff so I put my art things, food and clothes in my locker. I also bring extra clothes cause you never know what might happen. I also share my locker with 7 other friends since my locker is in the best area which is close to the cafeteria and by the office and by where the busses drop off.

It's honestly easier to carry around a 35+ lbs backpack (topped out at 40 or so) around campus than it was stopping between classes because the 5 minute passing periods were definitely not enough time to go from a class to the locker to another class. Why would I risk being tardy to class when I can just put everything in my backpack and replace said broken backpack every year with a new one? It's not that it's "uncool" - it's just more practical not to use one.

Sgdoc7 whenever I was in high school I always went to class first and if we needed the textbook for that day I would ask to leave to go get it then come back and usually they didn’t mind cause they knew exactly where you were.

I mean my school doesn’t let us carry around book bags because of “safety issues” but we have to keep our book bags in our lockers and carry around big binders full of all the crap we need for the day. It’s so annoying 🙄

that’s exactly how my school is! i have a THREE INCH binder and everyone is required to store their backpacks inside their lockers. we only get 4 minutes between each class and it feels like 2, so there’s no time to talk to anyone, use the bathroom, or open lockers. i just carry all my stuff around. if i put my books and things in my lockers, i’d always be late to class.

Twizzler 0017 I always have trouble opening my locker but theres this kid next to me who always helps so thats good. Most of my classes are in my wing but I have three classes way across the school so to save time,in the morning I get my binders for 1,2 and 3-4. During lunch I get my folders for 5,6,7 & 8

Another reason we don't use lockers is because we have no time between classes to go to our lockers. We have 4 minutes to get to out next class and we have 8 minutes if ur are going between the north and south building. I go to VHS!

In my future high school that my sister attends right now (which is a HUGE high school.) we have to use our lockers (which the majority of the lockers are about a 4 minute walk from the main classroom building) and we have a 5 minute break to go to our lockers and back. So we have to run to get to our lockers. And our school doesn't allow bags to be in classrooms because they think we'll cheat on tests. My school is so stupid.

That's stupid. They could literally find another way around that so that students can bring their bags but OF COURSE they'll be super strict and then say "nope leave it in your locker" my school doesn't do that but I can partially relate because my school would do the stupid things such as that

Mines the exact same way except it's in one building, but they only give four mins of passing to and my locker is the VERY LAST locker on the complete opposite side of the school than my main class is at the END of the class room. And if your run in the halls you get detention, if you bring your bag to class....you get detention.....if you miss the four minutes you get detention THERE IS NO WINNING

In my school we use the lockers not to store our books, but for other stuff that we don't use everyday; accessories for ceremony, rain coat, umbrella, spare flip flops, lab coat, calculator, etc

Only time I used lockers was in middle school because they didn't like us carrying around our bags. At my highschool it's so rare to see people using their lockers. They also have a fee on lockers at my school lmao

Misty oh gotcha we have to do something like that to park on school grounds. About $40-70 for a parking pass it depends on when you get it and you are assigned to either a senior or a junior lot based on your grade so the seniors get the closer lot

Ahhh high school, a time when you worry about stupid stuff and don't realize 99.9% of the people there, you will never see again or recognize if you met them later on in life. A time when someone else pays your bills and everything and you still don't appreciate their unconditional love for you.
