This is one of the biggest reasons we homeschool. Our kids get to explore education through their own interests rather than learning just to pass a standardized test. The goal is by the time they're ready for college (if they decide to go that route), they will know what they want to do with their lives, not like me where I'm 30 and still don't know what I want to be "when I grow up"

For me being in 9th grade currently, I hate going to school..I ask my elders "what is school for?". The same question, they reply School is the place which decide your life and control your life. I see Teachers constantly teaching us about our pasts. The wars, the scientists, the random things we will forget when we will grow as adults. I never get motivation to study and just keep on blabbering and memorizing the same things which I will eventually forget. The teachers in school don't give the needed motivation. They compare us, they comment on us based on our grades. School honestly gives me more anxiety, stress and depression than knowledge. School feels likes a prison to me not a place of freedom which I can go and learn. The words said in this video is so relatable to me. Loved it👍🏻👍🏻

This… I… I cried. I cried because I had so much going on when I was in school. I had things happen to my siblings in elementary school, I was bullied horribly in middle school to the point of being depressed and almost harming myself… thankfully I got outta there and switched schools. And for high school? I switched FIVE different high schools because of the mask during the pandemic and not being able to wear it and afford the private school I went to because I wanted to truly LEARN. I love learning… but I couldn’t do that when they placed pressure on me, when they didn’t allow me to think creatively. My first high school understood this, my other schools didn’t. And my last high school? The one where I didn’t have to teach myself for half the semester and then fight to learn the other half… Despite being an online home school, they really taught me lessons I will cherish forever. Thank you West River Academy.

As a person who goes to highschool in Australia I can say that they do and will teach us a lot of stuff about leaving school and getting a job. In fact when you start year 10 (about 15-16) you are able to pick your own classes for what degree you want in college such as language arts, Business and leadership, Advanced Phycology, Veterinary practice, etc. But the thing is you are able to drop these classes at any time and choose others if you realise that maybe being a physician isn’t for you. They also start implementing classes on taxes, bank accounts, credits/debits, and many other things you would need to do as an adult. Obviously Maths, English and Homeroom are compulsory but these other classes allow you to do something else for when you actually leave school and go to college. Another class my school does is languages, This class is highly recommended but not enforced. This class allows you to learn any language you want with either a private teacher or your own class. This class is literally free and after about two years they may let you travel to the place your language is from. Unfortunately, these easy to work in classes are not in every highschool in Australia and sometimes you may miss out on these bonuses, but personally as someone who goes to there it has really made an impact on my friends in higher years and they constantly are excited about going to their next class. I really hope one day this will be implemented in more schools but for now I will just be grateful for what I have.

When you specifically mention the getting an extra hour of sleep over working, I completely agree. Since going to college, I’ve started prioritizing sleep and other healthy habits over school work and this has led to way more productivity and success in learning. I set a deadline for my homework and studies, and if I don’t finish them in time, I simply accept I could have started them sooner and go to bed because doing slightly better on an assignment worth less than half a percent of my grade is never going to be worth an extra hour of sleep that allows me to learn better the next day. It’s greatly improved my outlook on school and learning and I’m hoping others can prioritize their own health over grades, even if it seems like a bad choice

Exactly! I'm not proud of it, but I genuinely do not care in the slightest about what I'm learning, I just do it for a good grade. (And to be clear, I love learning, I just hate school) It has given me so much anxiety, stress, and loss of sleep. While I am a A's-B's student, I still feel terrible all the time. I flinch at hearing my own alarm, because I know that I need to go to school because of it, and feel so, so stupid all the time because of my inability to do math or science well enough for my own and other peoples standards. I hope that whoever is in the school system is doing well and exceeding, and I genuinely wish you a good day/night. ❤

In my country, when you meet another parent, they either ask you about your grades or about what school you’re going to. The problem is becoming so severe that many children have problems going to good elementary schools, so the government enforces a law for children to be selected at random for the top primary schools.

511Club the quote (nor the video) was not saying do away with school. As far as the quote - don’t just rely on what you are told in school to become all you know. Read, research, watch videos/movies, do the activities and topics that interest you. Look into topics deeper. Don’t just take what you are told in school as the whole picture. It’s the picture from a certain point of view.

i am still in school and i am 15 teen yrs old and hats of bro because u express all my feelings which is somewhat little bit relating dude because the school which i study is almost same no difference but the rush to complete the syllabus and i am the one student who is good and excellent in science but not in math i am progressing in my own way and i want the knowledge of where they use it in real life . a but so much slow and i am the guy thinks what the use of just asking will this come in exam when i see my friends doing. i get a doubt what the use of the subject or the chapter let it be any subject. that's the problem and thanks bro for expressing our millions of people who suffer for understanding. and grades are useless its just to mark ur progress after the marks and grades are revealed the teachers do focus on those areas in some schools and some schools don't the thing is they don't find where the child lacks in the need to fix the small pathway which is the main goal for getting the knowledge and the part where i lag is the 7th 8th 9th grades which were so much horrible because of covid so yea thanks bro for the video for us.

Now I am sure that I wasn’t crazy for referring to school as a ‘prison’, I wasn’t lazy for arguing that ‘my SAT scores will never define me or my worth’, and that it wasn’t my depression that was affecting my schoolwork- it was my school that was making me depressed. Thankyou for taking some of the heavy guilt I have off of my shoulders- it’s people like you that have motivated me to keep being myself and live by the rules that let us all grow freely and thrive :)

'There is a difference between being smart and scoring better.' I have seen so many people of my class scoring better just because they memorise things, they are just like robots. Our school system needs to be changed. They should make us visualise things and make us relate to it. Memorising things cannot help in anything except scoring good marks. If I go to shop to buy something, the shopkeeper will ask me to find the cost of pen if it is 5 times the cost of eraser or anything. 😂 What will I do after finding out the volume of gulab jamun? 😂 If I'm eating an icecream, why should I find surface area of cone, I bought icecream just to eat not to measure its surface area and all. What if I don't have interest in that subject? If teachers taught us in fun way, energetically and enthusiastically then we would have had interest in all these things. I don't have any intention to hurt anyone. Just here to share my thoughts that came while watching the video. Do share your thoughts on this. Thank you

You cant just blame the teachers, they are told to follow a guide line/planer. They don't have the freedom to teach you want they think you need to know. Some do better jobs then others, but they could lose their jobs.

Love your videos and insights, but I need to say schools are starting to change. I have the privilege of working in a school in eastern Canada that is working hard to structure school in a way, I think, you'd be glad to see. Social Emotional Learning is coming to the forefront as an important structure schools need to prioritize. (I've been reading some great stuff about CPSs/Chicago). I've designed, and now implement as a Learning Support Teacher, a series of 19 Lessons around SEL, the Science of Happiness and Resilience with loads of additional resources for teachers of all grades to use in their classrooms integrating these lessons into their curriculums. Change doesn't happen overnight, but I'm hoping my future grandkids will have a better and engaging experience in school than I did and my own kids' have had. (They had a great 3 years at the school I teach at, learning lots and having their needs met in a supportive way.) Now to teach our youth to cook, sleep properly, and manage their digital content for maximum health. :0) I look forward to your future content!

My school is built like a ghetto tbh. There are almost no windows, we have to strictly walk on designated lines in the tile, the teachers are the only ones in control because I haven’t seen the student council able to do much, so we were forced to make a social ecosystem that was really messed up. Backstabbers, fake friends, false rumors, homophobia, bullying, and other stuff. One of my friends has ADHD and has told my teacher many times but whenever he sees her doodling he threatens to take her notebook away. He’s actually done it once. This pressure goes on and on generation after generation. Feel bad for the ones who were little kids then and are now in my place.

Yes holy fuck it's atrocious the teacher last year would constantly punish the whole class and said "When you punished together you'll come over together, sort it out like brothers" Like it just made me hate those people more because more than once they wouldn't give a fuck about being punished and would misbehave regardless of punishments and they knew the teacher would punish us if they misbehave and continued to do so cause misbehaving was fun to them and it made me hate them more and the teachers more

yo this happened so many times like one person would talk and we get punished AND THE PUNISHMENTS WERE HELL ON EARTH I TELL YOU we would have to put our hands up and keep them up straight which would not be bad if we didnt have that for 10 to 15 minutes cause the teacher would leave AND if someone put their hands down more time would be added

I think this is really emberasing when you think about it. But Im happy about the fact that we are learning english in school so I was able to watch and understand this video. ❤ We also learn latin in school and I dont think ill ever need it. Luckily I have found a good school in America. Don Tyson School of Innovation, DTSOI has lots to offer. From Audio and film to intro journalism for 9TH GRADERS. I’m glad that this school, the school that I’m in focuses on collaboration not competition. There was this girl at my school she went from knowing nothing to being a boss that tells tells legal officials in Arkansas what to do. That same girl now makes 450$ an hour. This shows that if the United States school system focuses on collaboration than competition. People can achieve many things. Sorry for typos lol

3:14 That's how I feel when I resume study in Physic-Chemical. 3:55 This is what Education should be about! I have a fantasy look on school since I left school for personal reason. I read books to learn more, they are like portable teachers. Why we don't have teacher like this? I check the video on why "Grade is a scam and Motivation is a Myth", it's sad how education has fallen that way! And it doesn't limit in United-State! There is a school that encourage the youth on creative and responsibility skill. No grade, just constructing and team-work. Even young can achieve something big!
