I bought a SA425 last December with loader, backhoe attachment and loaded tires.i love this tractor. I have a dealer about 20 miles from me. I looked at mahindra, kubota, and deere. Deere was several thousand dollars more with same equipment. Kubota was higher also, mahindra close in price, but further away. Yanmar has the best warranty of all of them. I do own 1 kubota, 1990 model 2 wheel drive. No power steering. Great tractor, but i needed loader and a backhoe. I have no regrets buying this tractor at all. P.S. i was raised in a "Green" family, but when the green comes out of my pocket, i go with the most bang for the buck.

Yanmar is a Japanese company so it costs more in labor to produce Yanmar tractors. The equipment is top tier and Yanmar has an impeccable pedigree having invented the first small diesel agricultural engines. They’ve been building diesel engines longer than Kubota, over 100 years. Yanmar and Kubota build the best transmissions in the tractor industry with Yanmar’s iHMT and Kubota’s HST+. Not to mention, Yanmar engines power half the tractor, construction, and marine diesel industry.

Kubota is Japanese too out of Osaka. It’s just that Kubota introduced their tractors before Yanmar. While Yanmar was supplying all of the other companies with their engines. Yanmar just waited too long to get in the field. I love mine.

Having been a 30year Kubota owner (a happy one too) I purchased a new Yanmar 325 this spring and am super pleased with it! I wanted another Kubota but after shopping I found the Yanmar to have a unique set of features of size, lift capacity and HP (I wanted a under 25hp for the standard injection and without the exhaust filter). I have 1200 lb lift, a mid mount mower and all the stuff I wanted. I am super impressed so far (40+ hours). The mower deck alone was far superior to the Kubota one on a “B” series as it is a fabricated heavy deck with all three spindles belt driven and none of that direct to gearbox blade drive stuff. Also I needed a drive over deck to accommodate my covered parking situation. The engine, transmission and axle housings are beautiful heavy cast iron castings. I’m not thrilled by the plastic hood but accessibility is good. Perfect tractor for me and $7,000 less than the B series Kubota which most closely met my needs but didn’t have a mower deck I liked and was rated 20% less lift capacity. Thanks for the Yanmar content video!

Also everyone forgets that the late 70's through to the 90's john deere used yanmars. One thing about yanmar, they use less fuel for same horsepower than kubota. Thats been my experience in having many different ones.

I'm currently looking for a subcompact tractor and have went down the rabbit hole - if you know, you know. I would love to be able to buy a Yanmar, but my biggest problem is the lack of dealers. My nearest dealer is 155 miles away and in another state. In fact, there is no Yanmar tractor dealer in my state (Kansas) according to the dealer locator. It is important, in my opinion, to have a dealer that is much closer than that so they can address problems and provide support as quick as possible.

Hank buddy, good video, the integrated hydro mechanical transmission (iHMT) on the YT series is a scaled down CVT that you’ll find in big ag tractors. It’s primary benefits are that it A) puts power to the ground like a gear transmission and B) offers on the fly speed/rpm change with a single button press on the loader stick. So when you drive into a pile hit the button for slower speed/more power, click it again for more speed/less power when transporting material. You’ll notice in the specs the YT347/359 put a lot more power to the PTO than tractors with a regular HST. The offset rear axle on the YT gives it more ground clearance than a straight axle. The Yanmar YT series is the most advanced compact tractor on the market but it doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. The YT series seems expensive on the surface, but when you compare it with other tractors including two rear remotes it’s competitive in price. Plus, no one else has the iHMT. The YM series is Yanmar’s budget line made in India to lower the cost, shuttle shift only. Thanks for the video and you should test drive a YT series and let us know what you think. Cheers.

Excellent comment. I own a YT347 and love it. I paid 32,500 new in 2020. Added Yanmar 3rd function kit myself later. Was around 1100 from dealer. A 3rd rear remote kit was available so added that too.

The YM series tractors are gear driven clutch tractors. The YT series is a Hydrostatic transmission. Not everyone wants a hydrostatic transmission. The YM is not a “cheaper low budget tractor made in India” All Yanmar tractors are assembled at Yanmar's U.S. headquarters in Georgia. It depends on what you are using your tractor for when choosing between an hydrostatic and a manual transmission. Each one has its pros and cons in certain circumstances. I myself have a YM342A with just over 50 hours and my father in law has a SA325 with the backhoe and hydrostatic transmission with 90 plus hours. Both very nice and dependable tractors

I bought a 223 with a box blade and backhoe for my 8 acres, which I use to clear cedar and postoak stumps for pasture use. It can take about an hour, but I can fully remove a 12-14" diameter oak stump with the backhoe. The eastern cedars take around 5 minutes. Along with the box blade, it's made quite an improvement on my land. Very pleased with my purchase.

My two cents worth: when researching SCUTS for my first purchase I loved the Yanmar and it was my top runner until the local dealer closed and I found the next nearest was a prohibitive distance away. That broke the deal for me -- thinking that I'd have to transport it to the dealer for required maintenance. I learned later that is not the case, but I already had a tractor by then.

I got the SA 425 with backhoe, loader, pallet forks and snowplow back in March. Love it. I’m in Shenandoah Valley Virginia and the Yanmars and Kubotas run around the same price. But the dealer is just a few miles from me, the 10 year warranty and veteran discount was attractive together and it was the right time for me. They’re both Japanese companies but I think the Kubota is just more of a settled name right now even though Yanmar has made the engines for other tractors forever. Give it time, they’ll come around. P.S. I was contemplating getting the grapple for moving logs on my property but the cost of the attachment and running the third hydraulic wasn’t feasible at the time. The forks work just as good if you line up on it right. My entire property is wooded so I pondered for a good while before I decided not to get the grapple. Either way, it’s a fine tractor and already did my first scheduled maintenance on it. Thanks for the video.

I’ve had my YT359 cab and have just loved mine. I have not lacked power and the engine starts right up even in cold weather. I only know of two dealerships in Texas and one in Oklahoma near my area, but they are a few hours away. Kubota and JD are plentiful here, but the idea of a Japanese-made quality engine and transmission sold me.

I have the exact model tractor that's in this video's thumbnail and I do not regret my purchase. The equivalent JD would've cost over $1,000 more WITHOUT a loader. I also have a compact JD that was manufactured by Yanmar for JD so I don't consider them a apples to apples comparison even though JD specified some of their own proprietary designs/parts on it, like the *aluminum* rear trans-axle. My Yanmar is equipped with a steel rear diff.

Growing up we owned both Kubota and Yanmar. I always considered the Yanmar to be the higher quality product. Kubuta was "good enough" but the Yanmar were nicier. The feeling that I got was "good enough" was enough to win market share. As Kubota increased their market share they started to move slightly up market vs where they were in the past.

I have a Yanmar SA425. Purchased new July 2023. 24HP. Previously owned a John Deeere 2305. The Yanmar is such a better built and well designed tractor. Cannot beat the 10 year warranty. Paid $19,800. Much less than the equivalent John Deere. Everything for servicing oil and filters very easy to access compared to the Deere. I researched various makes and models before purchasing and found more lift and capacities on the Yanmar. So far I would buy it again!

I bought a used YM240 with 2 wheel drive that was built in 1975. I got it in 1985 with 250 hours showing but, based on its condition, I suspect it was really 1250 hrs. I turned it over once and it now shows 500 - so probably 2500 hrs. It has a front loader that gets used a lot more than I thought it would and a rototiller, leveling blade, 3 point mower, and a 16” plow. With one exception engine maintenance has consisted of putting fuel in and changing oil every so often. The one exception was when I changed the fuel filter and a piece of the old filter got left in thus causing the new one to warp the plastic filter when hot and cut off the fuel. Pulled out that extra piece and everything went back to normal. Other than that, I’ve broken a couple front spindles because of carrying loaders full of dirt over soft ground (I suspect they didn’t really expect this 2 wheel drive version to be used with a front loader - at least not by sane people) and last year I brazed a couple pin holes near the muffler to tailpipe joint. I guess after 49 years I might need a new muffler soon. Yeah, the maintenance on this thing is killing me 🤪.

I have a JD 970 that I bought new in 1995 and it has a Yanmar 35 hp. It has been Bullet proof. No issues and I'll never sell it. But I wanted a new Cab tractor for winter work. A new Yanmar dealer had just recently opened in the last year just 8 miles up the road from me.... they had a new Yanmar Cab that I wanted but it was very expensive and they wouldn't discount it a dime. So out the door I went. Stopped at the TYM dealer and they made me a good deal on a similar Cab tractor so I wrote a check and they delivered it to me the next day. My JD was not too happy to be sharing the heated barn with a Red tractor but JD realized he doesn't have to go out in the snow anymore and he's happy.

I was considering a Yanmar before I bought my Kioti. The only reason I didn't buy one is because the largest tractor they make is 59HP, and I wanted something larger in frame size as well as more HP. I'll tell you this much, they probably have the best transmissions in the business. VERY good transmissions. One other potential downside to buying a Yanmar, is that their dealer network isn't as large as most other manufacturers, so if you have an issue, you may have trouble finding a dealer to service it for you.

I bought the Kubota L series, and over the last few years upgraded the seat, installed 3rd function and two sets of rear hydraulics, a canopy, improved the loader, installed floor mats, and more. The point is: for the same money I would have purchased most of those mods as standard on a Yanmar. Thanks for the video.

Living in Georgia that is an "at-will" employment state, we have a TON of foreign assembly "factories" that essentially uncrate foreign tractors and put US tires and other bits on them to then send on to retailers. Yanmar is really odd though. They haven't broken through the good old boy network of small town tractor retailers. There are more "gray market" Yanmar tractors that are essentially the cheaper and simpler (and good) smaller Yanmars around. The YT series Yanmar high end machine has a hybrid "mechanical and hydro" type transmission that is pretty cool, but also means you are beholden to a Yanmark service center for ANY work on it. The EVO store in Acworth is interesting. It's a combo retail and corporate office and training corporate building. There are 2 other nearby retailers selling Yanmar tractors, excavators and ATVs, but they are mixed with other brands (not a dedicated "Yanmar dealer"). Bottom line, good tractor product. But distribution retailers fighting for attention and losing IMO. Meanwhile, Deere sells Yanmar engines in almost all their compacts under 70hp. [updated post after finding a couple of Yanmar tractor dealers w/in driving distance.]

I don't see the Mechanical Parallel Linkage on any of those loaders. I would also be curious to see which ones have either an independent clutch or a two-stage clutch. And those big things on the rear axles are gear reduction final drives so there's more torque at the wheel and less torque on the powertrain for less wear on the powertrain. Other Japanese tractors have those also. I would also require the loader control to be on the fender for more accurate control and also allows access to get on and off from either side. I have been using my in-laws 25-year-old Yanmar YM 187 d for several months and I pretty much like it except it lacks a few features that I would prefer to have. Theirs has the power shift on the dashboard that I like. But it does not have power steering or a two-stage clutch. I also don't like the tensioners on the three-point hitch. They are turnbuckles which are a pain in the butt!

Those large axle housings look like portal axles. The axle comes from the pumpkin into a gear meshed with another gear and short axle going into the hub. Typically see them in Humvee’s and Mercedes Unimogs vertically to gain ground clearance whereas the center of the axle coming from the pumpkin is higher than the center of the hub instead of directly into the center of the hub. Typically very strong too.

Expensive versus Kioti or LS, cheaper vs JD or Kubota, at least in my area. I bought an SA425 based on a cast iron frame, with the same engine i would have bought in a JD, with a 10 year warranty, for cheaper. One huge problem for a lot of people is Yanmar's dealer network is somewhat spotty. I happen to have Yanmar dealers within 10 miles of home and our cabin, but there are chunks of the country where you've gotta pass 4 other tractor dealers to get to your closest Yanmar shop.

I have a YT359 cab. Had an LX4900 first and traded up to the 359. When I traded up I got 500.00 less than what I paid for it and had it 4 years, and no they didn't gouge me list on new one. I could sell it outright now and get the same or more for it as when new. Ohio has numerous dealers, certainly not as many as deere or kubota. Everyone has their opinions as to whether our not they like the color scheme but I think they're sharp. The knob is for ground speed and RPM settings, and on the loader handle you can change between 2 presets. One say when you are brush hogging and another for loader work. Oh yeah, I also have an SSA221 for light work. I have 3 family members now that have them as well as 3 buddies since they've seen mine. Not one complaint from any of us, they're bulletproof.

I also tested a bobcat 1025 and wow, what a difference, so much more comfortable, smooth and fast. Tested JD 1025 too and it was comparable but $6000 more. Sat on a Branson 2400H and guess the sales guy wasn't too interested in selling it because he didn't offer a test ride. The price point of yanmar and bobcat is quite different from JD of course. For my needs I'm leaning towards the bobcat, and a plus, it is the lowest price. (I owned a JD 770 for a much larger property for 23 years and had some issues but overall was a good 33HP tractor.) Don't forget accessibility to the dealer for parts and service.

I live in North East Ontario Canada. The market for these machines are slim. Mostly Deere, Massey, Kubota and some Kioti. I had no idea Yanmar made these. I know of the Yanmar small excavators and their reliability, so I probably would have given them a serious looking into. We settled with a Massey GC1710. Its not a bad machine.

I bought a Yanmar 324 in December 2022 with the 3rd function installed, grapple and delivery to Tennessee for $20,300. The comparable John Deere and Kubota tractors from the local dealers 30 mins away were $5000-$6000 more. I do not think they have a large market share because of their lack of marketing and dealer network. Great tractor

I think Yanmar is having a hard time reentering the USA market. Back in the 80's they pulled out of USA market and left a pretty nice sized dealer network high and dry. I think they burnt some bridges so to speak. I love my sub compact Yanmar. Cast iron rear differential, (external mounted hydraulic pump, exterior mounted 3-point lift cylinder all make maintenance low cost and easy). Hard to beat the Japanese engineering, Yanmar engines are phenomenal.

Neighbor has a 24hp Yanmar he loves it, I think it's OK there's a couple minor quirks I dislike, but it's a larger frame size than a JD 1025 for around the same money, another neighbor has one of those, I believe he gave around $20K for the tractor with a loader.

They are popular, most of the smaller Deere tractors are basically Yanmars. I don't think Deere makes a diesel engine under about 50hp. Problem with this idea is that JD adds its markup to the price and they are generous to themselves. That's why I ended up with a Kubota. Yanmars sell in most of the world under their own name, a good one.

As a Yanmar dealer in Southern Alabama, I believe the reason they arent as popular is a combo of a few things. The Yanmar dealers in USA havent been around that long. The lack of dealerships. Like you said, Covid, and of course Biden's crappy economy with insane interest rates right now. You would be shocked how many people come in here and have never ever heard of Yanmar Tractors. They always say "The boat engine people?...lol. Last year I was selling everything I could get in stock, quickly, but keeping them in stock during covid was challenging. This year, Im fully stocked, but not getting near the sales I had last year. Anyway. If you are in the market for a Yanmar Tractor here in the South. Come see me at Elberta Hardware, in Elberta Al (A little shameless advertising never hurt anyone...lol)

A few years ago my dad bought a brand new subcompact John Deere and when he brought it home I looked it over and come across the ID tag it was actually a Yanmar. The block also had the Yanmar name cast into it. I went to the Yanmar website and looked at their tractors and it was rather obvious the John Deere’s were nothing more than a Yanmar tractor with green paint. They sell a lot more Yanmar’s than you think.

I can tell you that there are folks with Montana Tractors that can't find parts for 15 year old machines that would be leery of a machine whose company may or may not stick around to support parts. Same with LS, Branson, Kioti. I bought too big a Kubota at 34 hp for my current one acre, but when I find the piece of land I end up on, I won't be needing something else unless it's a second machine. I bought mine planning for 40 years of work and repairs.

Back in the day Yanmar had an agreement with John Deere. John Deere compact tractors were Yanmar’s painted green, hence you don’t see so many Yanmar’s. 655 755 855 955 4100 4110 4115 2320 2520 2720 and probably many more.

Bought SA325. Biggest fail is hydraulic capability. Not close to meeting loader lift specs. When lifting heavy load, power steering cuts out. Yanmar says normal - I say dangerous.. They need to go to SSQA - Yanmar quick connect too limited.

My dad owns a yanmar sa221 and it is a good tractor for sure. It is definitely lacking though in comfort first and foremost the brake is on the same side as the hydro pedals and makes hitting them difficult and for 14000 dollars you get a tractor with no high and low range or even diff lock which is ridiculous I bought a Kubota bx1880 and I am absolutely pleased with it Kubota puts more emphasis on their customers and their needs in my experience and their dealer network is second to none.
