The biggest problem with the Streaming companies releasing films in cinemas is, as you said, the speed they come to the streaming platform. In the UK alone Apple TV + has around 2 million subscribers (based on the most recent figures I could find which are a year old) paying £8.99 per month and this doesn't even take into consideration the 1 month free trial. With an average UK cinema ticket price (2023) of £7.69 that's over £30 for a family of 4 to watch the movie and this is before the cost of travel, parking, snacks etc which easily can top £50. Add this to the changes in Cinema Audience Etiquette, why would you pay over 10 times the amount of the subscription for something you could watch a month later and may or may not enjoy.

When I was in uni in the early '90s, it was about a year between when movies left the theatre and when they came out on VHS, and then most new release videos cost in the $80-$100 range, so a lot of people couldn't afford them. There was a movie theatre near my school that's entire business model was showing movies that had left the theatre but hadn't come out on video yet. It was two movies for $5, a different double bill every night. Plus the concessions were cheap. The place was always packed with students. (I lost track of how many classes I skipped to be there.) There's a lot to be said about leaving more time between theatrical and streaming/video release to create multiple waves of anticipation.

Books can be done anyway it wants to become. Mistborn has the potential and right to be made as a film. I don't want any "no, buts, why, or how dare they you!" stuff. It has to happen, it needs to happen. I had enough of this nonsense and nitpicking. That was a few years ago! Yet, people are still doing this. This needs to stop! Deal with it. Times are always changing. Earthsea would have better as a film series instead. I am okay if there are deviations and cut out some plot points alike. Too many subplot points can also may story convoluted and confusing too. Keep very little subplots while keeping the main plot intact. That is my idea of doing book adaptations as films and tv shows. Fantasy still has a place for cinema, not just tv. It better have a right to exist in the first place.

PG-13 movies are not always tame. Look at The Dark Knight Returns, The Dark Knight Trilogy, LOTR, Sucker Punch, Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice, even films Like Captain America The Winter Soldier, and Captain America Civil War. PG-13 movies aren't always sqeaky clean and family friendly. They can sometimes contain graphic scenes and mature themes at times. The humor in these types of films, take time and are not done for cheap laughs. Exposition and all the above. R rating movies are amazing. But it also restricts all age audiences unless a parent or guardians has permission. I cannot wait for Mistborn. It needs to be PG-13. Earthsea should have been a film series instead. Since A24 is known for doing films. It should take the route like Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts did. In 1 or 2 years for each installment. Cut out the subplots that aren't important to the story. There is why LOTR was remade and adapted again. Since the 1978 and the tv films Return of the King, and The Hobbit. Fantasy novels do have the potential to movies or tv shows. Thank goodness the tv shows adaptations are an hour long for each episode. I find it like a movie at home. Both routes are amazing.

You also seem to really have it in for Henry cavill I've never seen you really slate or even have a negative opinion on an individual actor so much. Considering some of your Doctor Who videos are really vanilla and bland where you seem worried about offending anybody and yet here you're tearing it apart. Something seems off.

One of the BEST Action movies EVER MADE. I can't believe it flopped. This movie should have been a record-breaker. Damned shame. I'm putting it in my library and can't wait to see it again soon.

Hasn't it only been out for about a second? Nothing makes ridiculous bloated money like the olden days. Studios need to scale back their expectations to realistic levels and theaters need to make it worth it for me to leave the house to sit next to some rando too stupid to pick a seat in the empty row and not right next to me and the 4 seats of my family. Hollywood accounting claims movies made box office zillions but somehow never turned a profit. Claiming that they couldn't make movies without ripping off everyone that actually makes the movies.

Argylle was a fun, silly at times, action comedy spy flick. It had awesome fight choreography, and bright saturated visual flair. The cast was great and despite the CGI not being "OMG I'm going to die because the effects are so top shelf" - I could accept that because not everything needs to be the best of the best of the best snooty elite level. I'd like to be able to LIKE MOVIES without having to make each out to be masterpieces. Also. I feel like certain viewers whose whole personalities were developed around "Release the Snyder Cut!" might be feeling emotion damage because their man crush of choice, He-Man Henry, was not in every other scene. This travesty of Henry taking back seat to Sam Rockwell (a GEM) and Bryce Dallas Howard (a GURL) may have twisted some knickers.

I think it's so sad this movie didn't do well since I just watched it with my friend and it was really fun. It was refreshing to see a movie and just have fun watching it. People seemed to not like the plot twists, I liked them. There were tons of hints that I had pointed out which made them more satisfying when they happened. I was genuinely engaged until the end.

I am sick of Number 1 movies being labeled as "flops." We need a better noun. In the words of Dominic Toreto, "It doesn't matter whether you win by an inch or a mile. Winning is winning."
@BaithNa11 ай бұрын
Being at the top of the box office just means that it had the best/most marketing for that weekend's releases. A flop is determined by how much a movie cost and its marketing against how much it makes in the 1st weekend and its second week drop off. This movie cost Apple 200 million for its rights alone and it'll struggle to make 100 million worldwide. It needed to make at least 450-600 million to break even because theaters take up to 50% of the earnings. So by all measures, this movie is a massive flop.
@joseqmeh10111 ай бұрын
"Winning is winning by an inch" doesn't apply with a work that took 2 or 3 years in the making
@HighHeelKnight11 ай бұрын
@@BaithNa Yes, I am aware of that. I'm just saying that a "flop" implies that the movie was a complete disaster. That it's no good. That it's worthless. That no one enjoy it. However if a movie is Number 1, then that means the majority of moviegoers chose that film out of the abundant competition available. That is a victory. "Flop" doesn't imply victory. Also think about the vast differences in earnings that Number 1 movies can have. Avatar; The Way Of Water was Number 1. Halloween Ends was Number 1. Did the horror movie make anywhere near the same amount of money as the 3-D space adventure movie? Hell No! Both movies were Number 1, but they had vastly different box office hauls. It's not the public's fault or responsibility on how much money studios spent to make their films. Apple can spend $200 million. A24 can spend $40 million. Blumhouse can spend $8 million. The thing that ultimately matters is how many butts were in seats (or at least purchased tickets). The theater attendance reflects the public's interests. If the studio spent $300 million on a movie that only $18 million worth of the public was interested in, then that is bad business on the studio, not the audience. On the flips side, if there is $18 million worth of public interest on a movie that cost $60 million, then that is smart business by the studio. Long story shorter, we need a better noun than "flop". That word should be used for the true box office catastrophes. We need a term that acknowledges the victory despite the financial disappointment. Think about it. How may Best Picture winners and nominees were never number 1 at the box office? How may of those winners and nominees were "flops" or no where near as profitable as most summer blockbusters? As far as I am concerned, no Number 1 debut movie should be labeled a "flop".

A lot of movies nowadays are condemned to the abyss by social media likesters, who dare not think for themselves, and who have little or no (a) Imagination: and (b) Critical Faculties. I make a point of taking no notice whatsoever of these people. I'm generally very pleased with what I watch when I do this. Think for yourself, people. Your life will be so much more rewarding if you do.

It was number one because it was the only movie to come out this past weekend and we already know it's a flop because movies make a huge chunk of their box office on the opening weekend and then fall off dramatically week after week.
