In my state, we’re going back to pits because spike strips don’t work and we’ve seen an increase in fatalities because enforcement was lacking. No longer.

I've not been stopped for speeding since the 80's, but if one gets behind me and flips on the lights, guilty or not, my ass is stopping. I watch a lot of the Arkansas and New Mexico State Trooper videos. Both are very professional and very good at what they do. Many times they won’t do the PIT until the threat to the public is too high. Personally I don’t care how many cars they demolish and as far as fatalities, this is what the runner chose when he failed to stop for a traffic stop. They clearly don’t want to hurt someone, but they don’t want that person hurting anyone either. I think California should adopt some of these policies. It seems more like they and the media want the long ridiculous chases in Los Angeles.

Watching California Law Enforcement being restricted during the continuous pursuits they have to deal with is so frustrating to watch. Pursuit that could be stopped using the pit, ends up turning into pursuits that seem to last for hours because law enforcement there have been handcuffed and not allowed to do their jobs. And in the end, that has created more crime and a lack of fear by the criminals.

I’ve been talking about how Arkansas troopers have been aggressive with pit maneuvers. I’ve also asked on countless videos, why don’t cops take out the radiator of the fleeing car. A second officer in the car could shoot a hole in the radiator. With the radiator having a hole in it the car will shut it’s self off in about 5 mins. Then your not putting others at risk. Pit maneuvers have caused other drivers to be in critical condition. Forcing the car to over heat will cause the temp sensor to tell the engine to shut off to avoid further damage to the engine. Chase is done. A stolen vehicle may even make it back to the original owner instead of being trashed. If your car was stolen and then rolled 4-5 times, the insurance company will pay off the balance (for a car still being financed). The owner is out all the money that has been spent on that car and has nothing to show for it. They will then have to buy another one, but that’s when they have to drop a big down payment again. A couple hundred for a new radiator and you still have your car vs thousands to get another car. An attachment on the back of a patrol vehicle would work too without a bullet needing to be shot.

thing is, I hardly ever see a patrol car in front of a suspect/fleeing vehicle. Think weapons. And shooting a rifle from a driving police car (often just 1 officer in it) at high speed in a public place... is the reason why they dont shoot out tires either: way too risky-ricochets.

They tried to kill a pregnant woman who was only looking for a safe place to stop. Because the location she was at did not allow her to safely pull over. She slowed down and put her hazard lights on. Fortunately she survived and sued and received a handsome settlement to cover her cost. Incompetence was the name of the game. Suspects that are not planning to stop do not slow down.
