East Asian American Immigrants are not and have never been selected from the highest educated and most skilled Asians, quite the opposite. If you were part of the rich, elite, educated, ruling authorities in East Asia, you would never want to leave. America has always gotten the trash from other countries. I want to point out something. The media make it seem like asian hate is commited by people of color most of the time (they mostly show a black person attacking an asian person). But that is big bs. The majority of hate crimes commited towards asians are done by white people. It's just that media don't want to show that and I feel like they are trying to separate people of color. Might also be the reason why the US considers asian male to be undesirable as a partner compared to asian women and I do feel like you see that in the US compared to the rest of the world since I feel like the media shapes the asian male to become incels in the US. My family escape Vietnam on a boat and settled in the US since 1978. My parents were in their early 30s with no former of education, but they sacrificed a lot for us. We were dirt poor but every single one of us are now doctors, dentist, pharmacists and computer programmer. There were 9 of us. We made it big because of how my parents had instilled in us the importance of education and the reason why they risked their lives to escape so we can have a better future. We are forever thankful for America to give us a new home and is very proud to be Americans.

My family came to the US in 1978 as refugees from Vietnam. My parents were young with no form of higher education. We were very poor but they have instilled in us the importance of higher education and the reason why they risked their lives to bring us here. They want us to have a better life. We have very little, no vacations, no eating out, basically nothing. However, we were never short of love and the encouragement from our parents. There were 9 of us. We have several doctors , quite a few pharmacists, one dentist, and a few computer software engineers in our family. Some of my siblings also own restaurants and other businesses besides their professional jobs. I’ll never forget the day before my dad passed away. He called us over and told us that he has accomplished his mission on earth and told us to give our all to the US and be a productive citizen and to teach our kids the same . We are forever grateful for this great country and we are proud to be a part of it. We’re Americans.

Middle Easterns and Indians should not count as Asian. I mean, India is not only a subcontinent but it has its own tectonic plate and a super visible geographic barrier between it and East Asia called the Himalayas, while also being hugely different ethnically from East Asians. The Middle East also has its own tectonic plate I believe and the same ethnic differences to East Asians. You wouldn't consider a Russian an Asian, would you? Because I think of Russians as Europeans.

Entire asian culture for the last millenia was based on education. You could only be successful if you passed a national govt exam. So the emphasis culturally on education has an impact. We still have a test equivalent to the SAT but just ridicously harder. You also have to break this down by discipline. Not many asians go into low earning disciplines such as the social sciences but are in the actual sciences and applied sciences. This would probably also explain the male female differences.

i cant believe one of the reporters threw shade at the hmong culture. let me give you an insight on just what we have done as a 2nd generation hmong community here in little fairfield ca. just between my 3 brothers and i, one has a doctorates degree, the other is an electrician, my oldest brother is an IT tech and i am a store manager at a grocery chain making 110k a year. My bro in law(also hmong) is an engineer. his brother is a doctor at kaiser and his other brother is an rn. I work in an environment with everyone having college degrees and many having PhD's. Even in that environment, asians and indians outperform other groups by a significant amount. There is a clear difference in work ethic, on average, that accounts for this difference. The asians I have worked with all seem to come from a culture of high expectations and are expected to work hard and not make excuses. Why can't we just change the cultures within the other communities to be more like them instead of the current entitled culture we share now?

This survey was not corrected for advanced degrees (those beyond bachelor's). More Asians have advanced degrees. If you fully correct for education, a white person with a similar educational background will still on average earn more than an Asian, especially someone of North Asian descent, probably because of racism. South Asian origin Americans (from the Indian subcontinent) earn more than those of North Asian descent, for a number of factors including that Indian Americans are mostly from the upper castes of India and thus are a select population, that Indians tend to score relatively higher on verbal I.Q. relatively speaking whereas the North Asians score higher in math related subjects than any other subgroup including Jewish Americans, and that there are high percentages of Indians who are physicians and in finance.
