It is to some extend because it is a tug of war with them they can make you feel bad about yourself but then the next minutes she would argue with anyone or fight with them if they say anything negatively about her kid(s). It is a way to train your children so that they would not get hurt by other people. People here in America is afraid of the truth, they get hurt or get offended at anything you cannot say anything without violating something. 4/5 people (a little exaggerating) need to see therapists but they don't even tell the truth to the therapists or the therapists said something that incorrect they afraid of hurting the therapists' feeling so it is a useless cycle for real in many instances, I speak on this base on experiences

This is literally my Asian Mom, except for the money aspect. She went (or tried) to get into therapy when my sister passed away and tried at least five therapists from what I heard. As in my country public health insurance covers psychotherapy you have five trial sessions each with therapists to see if you can work with each other, every attempt failed (either they refused her or she them) and she declared the therapists as incompetent because they wouldn't "agree" with her. So this is incredibly funny and really really sad.

A therapist isn't supposed to give you solutions. A good therapist guides you to finding your own solution to your issues.
@RitsychServare Жыл бұрын
@@edselgreaves6503 THIS. People fail to understand this about therapy. Once you've been through one, you don't stop there. It's like going through doctors. Do you simply stop going to see a doctor just because you thought they couldn't help you with your problem? No, you still have to even if they're not all that adept in their knowledge. Same thing with therapists. They're not really there to give you all the advice, the answers you need, bit of course, you have choice to make the decision to make the necessary changes. It's like when you tell them your problems, they write you a prescription but not quite like a medication but rather, a guide that you yourself may need to consider before writing it off otherwise, you're acting as if you know better than them. That's why I stand by it because as hard as it is to deal with mental illness, the most regrettable thing you could do is to not seek help from someone who's got the proper tools, maybe not all the tools but just enough to do the job, so that you can still continue on your journey through life. Therapists may suggest medication as well to go hand in hand with therapy.

When someone ask a therapist how they are useful the answer is simple, they listen without judging, when others do. They take time to help people with problems that they may think is too big for them. It may not be solved in one session, but a little by little the problem can be fixed. Rome wasn't built in a day. Therapists remind their patients that they don't have to go through their problems alone.
@user-gh8bm8ct5t2 жыл бұрын
Not every therapy is talk therapy, I absolutely hate this assumption. There’s solid research backing treatment plans for respective illnesses and there should be a goal-oriented focus between patient and therapist. Of course the therapist needs to get to know the patient beforehand to find out the problem in order to ascertain the solution… most people don’t realize this and quit prematurely. Stick with therapy guys, and if the type of therapy you’ve tried isn’t working for you, there’re a million other approaches that are all drastically different

Growing up my mom ruined me, sheltered the crap out of me. So bad I was not allowed to have friends, a job or get to move away for college. Built zero social skills, knew nothing about credits, paying bills, and etc.. All because she just wanted me “close”… I wanted to move away for a reason. To get away from her.. My mom is emotionally and mentally unavailable. Also the way she manipulated me and guilt tripped me into passing up a college admission, I got accepted into one of my favorite colleges. She didn’t like it would mean I was moving. Still moved away at 18 when I realized what she was doing. Eleven years later I don’t talk to her. She has a grandson she barely knows too. Oh wells.. I held grudges and would never forget, tried to go to therapy only to realized how much I really hate her. I’ve found peace, learned to let the past go, still won’t reconnect with her.. She’s still dismissive and mentally/emotionally unavailable.. Only after I moved away, forcing my way out that I got my own place, job and now I have a beautiful family of my own.❤ Life is more beautiful. No one to gaslight me, manipulate me to do things that’s only beneficial for them.. To be fair her mom, raised her the same way. Guess that’s all she knows. She’s living off her brother now.

You definitely need your own space. You are none of the things they say to you. don't take that on. it dosn't matter what you do they will remain the same. love yourself, and enjoy being yourself. Your point of living has nothing to do with your family, they are vessels through which you came through. you are here alive and you should live and enjoy life, discover yourself and the world. live and thrive ! please don't take their words and make them yours. don't be perfect be you!

Get out as soon as you can pull some money together and go "no contact" with your family. The only exception is if you still need them to pay for college. Just make sure you pick a college far, far away and don't go home for the holidays.
