Connor Kenway is a controversial figure amongst the Assassin's Creed fans with either people loving the character or hating him. One thing that most people can agree with is that Assassin's Creed 3 is not the worse game in the series. This is how my view of Connor has changed I hope you guys enjoy the video.

Assassin's Creed III is a 2012 action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and Microsoft Windows. It is the fifth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series, and a direct sequel to 2011's Assassin's Creed: Revelations. The game was released worldwide for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, beginning in North America on October 30, 2012, with a Wii U and Microsoft Windows release in November 2012. A remastered version of the game was released in 2019 for Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
The plot is set in a fictional history of real-world events and follows the millennia-old struggle between the Assassins, who fight to preserve peace and free will, and the Templars, who desire peace through control. The framing story is set in the 21st century and features series protagonist Desmond Miles who, with the aid of a machine known as the Animus, relives the memories of his ancestors to find a way to avert the 2012 apocalypse. The main story is set in the 18th century, before, during, and after the American Revolution from 1760 to 1783. It follows Desmond's half-English, half-Mohawk ancestor, Ratonhnhaké:ton / Connor, as he fights the Templars' attempts to gain control of the colonies. The first portion of the game, set in 1754-1755, follows Connor's father, Haytham Kenway, the leader of the Colonial Templars, during the French and Indian War.

I always found it weird how people criticize Connor for not being like Ezio, and I have to wonder if people would prefer an Ezio clone instead of someone new, different, and distinct. Ezio got 3 whole games to show off his charisma, but Connor being the same would've made zero sense with his backstory.

Well, sometimes Arno is called "French Ezio" but it seems he is not favorite character either. I think that Connor "problem" was that he was first playable (aside from Haytham) character after Ezio trilogy. Many people simply got used to Ezio and in AC III got completely new character. So perhaps this can be one of the sources of reluctance towards Connor. Personally when I first played AC III I enjoyed it. After years I was kinda surprised why there are so many bad opinions about it. While I prefer Haytham over Connor (I wish we could get more of Haytham and Connor relation in game, that was probably my most favorite moment in AC III), I don't think that Connor is bad character. He had some development and story and that makes him pretty interesting character as well. While AC III is not my favorite AC game, it's not even close to worse AC games in my opinion. Kenway saga is one of the best story in AC series.

It is sad how Connor ended up being one of the most underappreciated assassins in the series I mean sure, he had a MASSIVE hole to fill since he was the first protaganist after Ezio but i feel that statement alone is why Connor had gotten so much flak at the time, and of course its the game where Desmond canonically dies, so that also didnt help with the game, writing-wise

I think what ever Assassin we would get for Assassin’s Creed 3 would be hated no matter what, because we just lived through 3 games as the very loveable Ezio. What ever new Assassin come’s after this, whether he/she is dark, quiet, charismatic, naive, cautious or anything like that, people wouldn’t like him because its not Ezio, who we are so used to after 3 straight games. I feel like Assassin’s Creed 3 was going to be shafted on release no matter what. Which sucks. Maybe im totally wrong, l dunno.
@KesslersArcade

Possibly I still believe certain Assassin’s in the series should get another game like Bayek, Connor, Arno, etc. You’re right that most other protagonists would never be much of a rival to Ezio since he got three games and a movie. That could all change should Ubisoft decide to go back to previous Assassins possibly in the Assassins Creed Series that is being developed on Netflix.
@natchu96
@natchu96 2 жыл бұрын
Bayek wouldn't even be difficult to make a new game for, tbh; Origins did a story of what resulted in the Brotherhood's establishment, we don't get to see how they expanded to the scope seen in Valhalla. And Rome was very much in a time of change and could well be made use of. But then we got the demigod simulator which is...honestly an alright game in its own right. It was largely what it set out to be, Valhalla is a lot sketchier on that front.

@@natchu96 Should have been a Bayek and Aya/Amunet sequel that acts like a part 2 to Origins. Bayek can go to the Levant and future Turkey (Capadoccia, future Constantinople) while Aya remains in Rome as Augustus forms the Roman Empire before their eyes not just in Egypt but the rest of the known world. The only explorable areas in Egypt would be Kyrenaika, Alexandria and I guess Memphis. They are both playable but their specific locations may play different such as in Levant, the parkour, vibe and aesthetic are all in line with AC 1 mixed with Revelations while in Rome its kind of line with Brotherhood with a sprinkle of Unity.

My fiance is half Mohawk, she was raised on a reservation. And she speaks and has inflections EXACTLY like Connor. She doesn't use contractions much, she speaks monotone, and her sense of humor is different than ours due to cultural differences. She's not however, built like a brute (she's only 4'11) and she dresses gothic with some native accessories on occasion like a feather in her hair. A lot of people don't get that Connors way of speaking and more quiet demeanor was due to his heritage and upbringing as a native. And I get it, not many of us have spent time with or seen native Americans in real life. But it should be understood why
@KesslersArcade

Yeah I agree a lot of us don’t have the cultural background to understand Native Americans because most of us never grew up around the cultures or the traditions that they have. I personally think AC3 might have been more interesting if the story instead followed Haytham's disillusionment with the Templars (maybe as the result of falling in love and trying to get away from that life) and rediscovering his Assassin legacy, and trying to reconcile it with his own beliefs. It would have made for a more original storyline than the "boy gets trained in order to get revenge for a dead parent" which everybody's seen a thousand times before. That being said, I also think that Connor gets too much hate. He is a well-rounded character, believable when we consider his life experiences and ultimately very much someone you want to root for.
@KesslersArcade
@KesslersArcade 2 жыл бұрын
I can see that perspective but I actually preferred Connor’s story since it came from a Native American perspective which is something we had never seen before and is hardly ever explored in most media. Assassin’s Creed Rogue was initially going to be about Haytham but they decided not to go with it since they wrote most of his life in the book called Assassin’s Creed Forsaken which does an excellent job explaining how Haytham became a Templar, it also shows he genuinely cares about Connor, and why he stayed a Templar.

in my opinion Connor is better than Ezio and its justified . While Ezio in his time had many resources and connections at his disposal , he had a lot of finance too it took him till his late 40's to take down the Borgias . While Connor when he found Achilles , the colonial Assassins were mostly extinct , a lot of them killed and others in hiding . Connor unlike Ezio had very less resources , he had to put the order back together from a scratch , sure he had Achilles's contacts but they served only purposes for independence of the colonies . Also Connor is more talented than Ezio , he won his first sea combat against three ships with an unupgraded Aquilla at the age of 15 , also defeating a templar ship Captain who was years more experienced than him . Set up a small town on the homestead property in his mid 20's , sure Ezio set up cities too but he had much finance plus he just upgraded and repaired already existing buildings and was already educated in accounting and trading by his banker father. While Connor had to built the homestead from a scratch and limited money and also learned accounting and trading from a scratch in his mid teen's and he learned very fast . by the the age of 27 he was more accomplished than Ezio was in his first game . Connor at his late 20's defeated an entire Templar order , set up a small town , became a successful trader , carried out the independence revolution missions and succeeded in them , carried out successful navy missions and rebuilt the Assassins order from a scratch . Making him one of the youngest most achieved Assassins .

Well to be fair in Ezio’s case the Templars were way more hidden. Ezio didn’t know who all the Templars were unlike Connor who had all the targets ready from Achilles. Yes Connor had to build the Colonial brotherhood up from scratch but Ezio wasn’t actually resourceful it took many years for him to slowly build up the Brotherhood and even then he didn’t even realize he was working for the Assassins. Ezio wouldn’t actually be inducted into the Assassin order until after 20 years of him starting the hunt for the people responsible for the death of his family. Also it’s not fair to compare naval warfare since naval warfare was not the same back then. I would say they’re both great in their respective ways and they both accomplished a lot in their lives.

@@KesslersArcade with no disrespect but you said ''Ezio wasn’t actually resourceful it took many years for him to slowly build up the Brotherhood'' . Well his uncle Mario was loaded , plus he got ton of money and support from the Medicci family after doing their tasks also the mercenaries , the thieves , the courtesans , also the brotherhood didn't need to be formed the Senior members were already present and had their influence , his recruits were only to extend the influence of assassins in Rome , also he had Altair's Scrolls and his gadgets were built by non other than Leonardo Da Vinci himself. Also Mario already informed Ezio of the Assassins in his early 20's , remember Altair's armor quest . Mario just didn't make him official until he was ready . On the other hand what did Connor had when he arrived . A broken old Achilles up at the hill and a sunken ship at the back sea . All the senior members wiped out . @@akbarthegeneralist1471 I respectfully disagree because you missed my point that it took him many years to gain what he has. His uncle was not loaded it took both Ezio and Claudia to restore the Villa. If you paid attention you would see that the Villa was falling apart when you first arrive there. It literally takes you a long time to rebuild the Villa back to it's former strength which for Ezio was years. It also took many years to build Rome back up as well. Yes he had the courtesans, thieves, and mercenaries but Ezio had to coordinate them into working together which was not easy at all. Altair's armor quest also took many years to get and even then Ezio would not officially get it until he was inducted formally into the Assassins. Literally Ezio get surprised that all the allies he met over the years were actually working together as Assassins.

I think its really because we are older, more mature so we can understand who he is, what he stood and fought for. The game came out when we were little kids and young teenagers so, many of us didn't fully comprehend what AC3 was and is supposed to be. Connor is a good character. He can be ignorant and blind at times and even bland having very little humorous moments. But, he is a man of action, not words. He's not supposed to be a Ezio ripoff, he's supposed to represent the bridge that connects The Native Americans and the initial vision of Peace and Freedom for America.

AC3 was actually my first game into the franchise. So i never had a problem weirdly enough i had a problem with Ezio. I first played AC 3 and afterwards i played AC 1. And Altaïr and Connor are kinda similiar cold and quiet and reserved. So when i then played AC 2 i wondered what the hell is this. In my perspective it made sense for an assassin to be cold, determined, quiet, rutheless. But Ezio had a much more templar personality being charasmatic, elegant, cunning, kind. So i had a problem with Ezio but by the time i got to revelations i liked him. Connor will always be my favorite character but Ezio is my 2nd pick. I feel like Connor deserves a trilogy of his own. I mean he later on gets a daughter. Plus Arno, Connor and Shay all live around the same time. And Shay killed Arno's dad. And Arno could react to Shay similiar to how Connor reacted to Charles Lee. And then you could have Connor and Arno meet and Connor seeing himself in Arno and teaching him.

Well there's several Assassin's that deserve a sequel and Connor is definitely one of them. I love Ezio because it's how I got introduced to the series. If we ever did get a sequel game with Connor I would love to see Arno, Shay, and Aveline be involved in the story in some way along with his family and his role as Mentor of the American Brotherhood.

Did you know that James Nadiger was supposed to write Connor's story after the events of AC3? He was hired to work in Assassin's Creed: Initiates, but the project was cancelled before he could expand on his initial take on the story. Also, he revealed all of his plans on his Twitter account. And I must confirm he would give Ratonhnhaké:ton the treatment he rightfully deserved for so long. Basically: Nadiger said Abstergo would create a fake program claiming Connor died alone, miserable, and far away from his children after divorcing from a white woman. But in the following chapters, it would be revealed this was Templar propaganda and that Connor's story was full of victories and glory. He'd have his own family and friends, organize an entire assassin resistance around northeast USA and eastern Canada, somehow hide the Davenport Homestead while spreading rumours of his death to trick the Templars and at almost 60 years old, be one of the central figures of the War of 1812.

After 6 assassinations he finally understood that he was wrong and did actually try to apologise for both his wrongdoings and arrogance to people he considered frienfs. These expiriences yurned him into a wiser man who wasn't corrupted by either Al Mualim or the Apple of Eden itself. Not necessarily Connor's people are the people he grew up with which was his mother's Native American village. Connor didn't meet his father until way later and Haytham had no idea he existed

Connor isn't a good protagonist ngl. Not in that he wasn't an ezio clone but that he had no personality.

He had personality but they were also portraying how accurate Native Americans sound like and their culture.

@@KesslersArcade Yeah but I think he could've opened up as the game took place. I mean I know a lot of unemotional characters who are likable. Think the man with no name or Guts from berserk

@@CornG4397 I used to not like Connor especially when this game came out almost 10 years ago when I was a teenager but my opinion now has totally changed. I feel more closer to Connor even though he's not my favorite Assassin he's definitely in my top five favorite.

In a way, he did because he realized that keeping his people safe was for nothing but it gave him a greater perspective to keep fighting for freedom despite failure.

I NEVER understood the "You only hated Connor because he wasn't Ezio!" excuse, considering people almost universally loved playing as Haytham all the way back when the game first released. He was essentially the polar opposite of Ezio and yet his section of the game was a lot of peoples favorite part of 3, and a lot of people even said they would've preferred more of the game with him involved. Haytham was only in about half of one game, the latter of which as a villain, and yet he's still one of the more beloved characters to come out of the entire colonial era of the games. I think people had actual dislikes of Connor specifically as a character, be it related to his personality or to his place in the overarching story. I loved Connor from the get-go so obviously I disagree with most of the criticisms, but to just dismiss peoples opinions as "ZOMG YOU JUST WANTED EZIO AGAIN" just seems overly simplistic and needlessly dismissive.

Yeah I agree most of us critics back then we’re naive and we didn’t give the attention that the game deserved. I’m just glad I was able to change my view and I hope others can as well.

There is a change I played this game when it came out almost 10 years ago and I used to hate it especially after I had finished the Ezio games. Like most people who played the Ezio games I didn’t appreciate Connor or his story. Most of us wanted a character similar to Ezio so it was a complete surprise when Ubisoft did the exact opposite of what most of thought. When this game came out I was only a teenager in high school and now that I got the chance to replay the game as an adult it changed my perspective a lot especially with all the life changing experiences that have happened since I originally played it. I have also been replaying all the AC games in order recently on my channel and while the nostalgia is still there from when I was younger there was a lot I had missed or not paid enough attention to when I was younger. I made this video because not a lot of people understand or appreciate Connor’s story and tend to find him boring as a protagonist when in fact he is quite the opposite.
