Edward Kenway is undoubtedly one of the best protagonists ever introduced in the Assassin's Creed games. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag does a great job of showing us what it was like to be a pirate, especially during the Golden Age of Piracy in the Caribbean. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is a 2013 action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It is the sixth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series. Its historical timeframe precedes that of Assassin's Creed III (2012), but its modern-day sequences succeed III's own. Black Flag was originally released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U in October 2013 and a month later for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. It was later re-released on the Nintendo Switch as part of The Rebel Collection alongside Assassin's Creed Rogue in December 2019. The game was released for Google Stadia in September 2021.
The plot is set in a fictional history of real-world events and follows the millennia-old struggle between the Assassins, who fight to preserve peace and free will, and the Templars, who desire peace through control. The framing story is set in the 21st century and depicts the player as an employee of Abstergo Industries (a company used as a front by the modern-day Templars), who is manipulated into uncovering secrets related to the Assassin-Templar conflict and the precursor race known as the First Civilization. The main story is set in the West Indies during the Golden Age of Piracy from 1715 to 1722, and follows notorious Welsh pirate Edward Kenway, grandfather and father of Assassin's Creed III protagonist Ratonhnhaké:ton / Connor and antagonist Haytham Kenway, respectively, as he searches for fortune and a mythical location called the Observatory, which is sought by both the Assassins and the Templars. A major plot element concerns the attempted establishment of an independent Pirate republic in the Caribbean.

mine too, after AC 2 and 3 and brotherhood ,this game was in a collection I bought in 1 time. Okay let's try . After few mistakes I finally got the feeling and solve soma difficulties. f.e. Go to the hanging, First time I did it in an hour, now less than in a minute, using smoke bombs , lol AC Black Flag is now my favorite, I even stopped playing Battlefield and Call of Duty

what really sells this story to me is that it legitimately feels like an adventure that spans years (unlike Unity & Odyssey). The rise and fall of your pirate circle specially made it feel kike something that could happen over a life time, hell you even see Thatch change appearance right in front of you,

AC Black Flag tells two parallel stories. In addition to Edward Kenway's story, there's also the story of modernity's arrival to the Caribbean. The British and Spanish empires keep growing in strength, and the "Wild West" of the seas that the pirates inhabited is made smaller and smaller. Edward and his circle of friends go from being privateers hired by the Empire, to rogue pirates, to having their pirate republic destroyed. As the net of modernity closes around the pirates they either accept the King's pardon like Benjamin Hornigold did, or die. Edward is like the sole survivor who lives to tell the tale, and as his ship to England sets sail at the end of the game the bittersweet OST song Modernity plays. There is a small victory in this story though. While the Templars worshipped the domestication of humans for the sake of their warped interpretation of "pure justice", the British Empire only enforced modernity out of necessity. So it's a complex outcome, and Edward choosing to move back to England while working as an assassin to free humanity kinda reflects that. What do you guys think about my analysis?

Well Black Flag shows us the height of the Golden Age of Piracy but also their downfall. They wanted to establish their own free republic with Nassau but it failed due to their own lack of morals, leadership, and rule of the island. The world was changing but pirates wanted to stay the same with stealing, drinking, gambling, and taking whatever they want. The English and the Spanish were tired of dealing with them and slowly they began to take them out until the British became more bold in killing or capturing the remaining pirates and sending them to prison or to death as an example to all future pirates. This tactic of fear and death threats was enough to disway any low ranking thugs of ever becoming pirates. Pirates began to dwindle and by the end of the 18th Century they were mostly gone.

Edward has gone through so much, he had to kill his friends, watch his friends die and in the end he dies himself. His own son betrayed him and turned into a templar. The ending was a very touching part. This AC game will always be my favourite as it shows how much he has changed. If Ubisoft had only put more effort into the story. I forgor to play all these AC games with sound so i don't really know anything

Well Haytham didn’t turn into a Templar by choice more like he was groomed into the role by Reginald Birch. When Haytham was very young Reginald Birch was dating his sister Jennifer Scott but in reality he was there to steal some information for the Templars eventually Jennifer found out and told Edward. Birch had brought thugs into the house to take what he was going to steal from the Kenways. The thugs eventually kill Edward, kidnap Jennifer and later sell her to slavery, during the attack Haytham killed one of them since Edward had been training him. Haytham’s mother is disgusted that her son has killed somebody with no hesitation and essentially abandons him. Reginald Birch then comes back and takes Haytham under his wing and slowly introduces him to Templar philosophy and eventually inducts him into the Order. Sometime during the events of AC3 Haytham finds out that Birch lied to him. He rescues his sister, and both of them kill Birch. His sister feels betrayed because he’s a Templar and should’ve become an Assassin like their father so they have an uneasy relationship but they do write to each other. I believe Haytham told her about Connor as well. Even through all those events Haytham still chooses to be a Templar. If you want more details about this you can read the book Assassin’s Creed Forsaken it gives you great insight about Haytham’s life.

Oh man, I like the Blackbeard I wish I could see him more through the game. I think he is the only one who will never betray Edware that's why Ubisoft killed him early but it's okay for me since he died as a brave man. It was emotional. I just finished the game today

Well they stayed true to his real life he did get beheaded by the British navy. I wouldn’t say they killed him early on since the game takes place across many years. I would argue he died in the middle of the game.

It has the best story but not the best AC story in the series. Ubisoft mistakenly believed that we wanted more games in the series without Assassin's or Templars and took it to an extreme with the newer titles. My one big gripe with the story is that it is a few hours too long and it take until the end to finally become an assassin. Much of the game is tracing vauge leads over and over again. The development happens just a little to late. It forgets it an Assassin's Creed game. This extends to the naval parts. Other than that and some much smaller problems this is a really damn good game just a decent Assassin's Creed game. A Assassin's Creed game with this writing but fully Assassin's Creed would have been peak. Unity tried it but the story just isn't that interesting. The graphics and gameplay are the best in the series though.

I personally enjoyed this story because you weren’t an assassin until the end it made Edwards transformation seem more genuine then getting revenge for something that happens in the beginning. Plus there’s so much to do in this game yeah the main story might not be long but there’s plenty of things to collect and side missions to do that help Edward’s progression feel more natural into becoming an Assassin. The fact that they emphasized he was a pirate first and slowly turning into Assassin was brilliant storytelling for me. This game isn’t my favorite AC by any means but it’s definitely in my top 5

I am playing this game, now in Kingston, after the Forts. seeing the whole story of this game , at the end i almost got tears in my eye. Now I have to do the Missions in Kingston and continue the game. A whole story is laying in front of me. The game till the Forts was only a beginning of the story

Immediately at the start I knew this is a girl, the face ; the voice and always touching Edward when he passes by.. Boys don't do that. At the top of the mill in Kingston, Edward asked: " You're name isn't James huh?" Maybe later I get the answer why on that question

Best story? I don't think so. There are tons of games with better storyline. Best AC Storyline? NO. Because it is not an AC storyline. Asassins, Templars, İSU etc. are not more than easter eggs. Beautiful game, but not an AC game.

When the time was done 💰 💰 💰, he just went home w... boat 🚢:)) The ending was cool... not the abstergo one... that he just... back to work like a chump.
