The description of it as an even more PVP-focused Sea of Thieves just killed any interest I could possibly have had, because... Seriously? Blech. Gating cool features behind some kind of MMO grindwall and PVP that privileges the earliest players in... What's the point? Who likes this? I just want a single player pirate game. Maybe Salt 2 will eventually deliver.

8:50 Atlas didn't just randomly inherit arks taming system, Atlas is just a modified version of Ark. on launch there was a glitch which allowed players to go all the way to Ark's main menu, you couldn't play Ark but the entire main menu was there and Atlas was even marked as a DLC they later patched it out so you can't get to the menu anymore

This is the entire crux of it. Anyone who bought Ascended who think they're getting Ark 2 when(really if) it comes out are gonna be in for a bitter shock when it gets renamed to something like "Ark Generations" or something else technically not Ark 2.
@Jorendo29 күн бұрын
@@filidhdeklend893 Heck, seeing their track record, even if Ark 2 ever comes out, it will likely be another abandonware project were they release a massively bugged game and then don't do a thing about it to actually fix the issues. They are also owned by Snail Games USA, a notorious publishers who been pushing for more Ark clones and they got abandoned too like "Dark and Light". I will never support Studio Wildcard again, bought Ark and Atlas and been disappointed in how they handle things and how they see the player base. Reason for having uncompressed textures is that uncompressing them on the fly would eat up performance budget. Can still be a shitty practice. COD has been pushing diminishing results for years now at the expense of your disc space (there's even a theory that Activision considers huge install size feature, not a bug - they assume people will install COD anyway and then have less pace for other games.) Meanwhile Ark seems to just use it as a crutch to make their game simply run.

@@FelisImpurrator bro? What type of thing you smoking ark models look way better and they have 3× less budget
@FelisImpurratorАй бұрын
@Xazamas I'm not sure it's the textures. Like, I think it might have been the world files or something just being unnecessarily large, last I looked it up. More of a YanSim toothbrush issue than a Skyrim ultra high res texture pack one. Although if they're also using some 4k/8k bullshit by default, they should stop it, get some help, and go back down to reasonable texture sizes with an optional free DLC like everyone else. I want shorter games with worse graphics made on smaller budgets, unironically. Palworld is pretty good and content dense for a fraction of the space.

Why atlas died. Crappy dev's, constant bugs and character loss, Groups using exploitations over and over, getting banned / removed for only a season and allowed back or those that were permeant would purchase a new copy and repeat using exploitations again and again. Will never forget seeing people putting multiple cannons per cannon port by trying to spam place at same time until they had a boat which should only have 12 guns running 60 guns. Or the Large walls stacking exploit where you could put a table on top of the wall and a wall on top of the table, repeat until you were so high you could glide bomb anywhere in grid or even the next grid over. Lets not forget the fact that you could be captured, held hostage and kept for weeks / months in a cage unable to play the game because every time you log in, your knocked out, force fed food, and held until you log back out. (ya, i did my share of guard duty)

When Atlas was released, some friends and I bought it, installed it, and tried to play as soon as it launched. We couldn’t get into any servers because they were completely overwhelmed. We were watching other streamers (Spanish ones) trying to play as well, and one of them, Knekro, was attempting to play with a controller or so I recall. By accident, he opened what was literally an Ark menu within the game. It looked as if it were a DLC for Ark labeled "Ocean." I've never played Ark, but he explained what he knew from playing it, and we were left speechless. Didn’t take long for the company to notice. Shortly afterward, they rolled out an forced update. We ended up renting a private server, which took a day to set up since we weren’t the only ones who did the same due to being unable to play otherwise. A few days later, we tried joining the official servers and ended up just wandering the seas since we couldn’t claim any land. Even so, we managed to log around 300 hours in the game. It was great overall, but it was still a total mess.

And building a homestead like I was used to in Ark SE (3,200 hours), it was the best of both worlds for me. I spent many hours sailing between grids exploring new lands and was a blast. Joined a guild, help build a galleon together and sailed with them for days! That was probably the most fun I ever had. The game was far from perfect. Hardly a game at all with so much broken, but even so it still stands as one of my favorite games despite how much I was cursing at it and pissed from lost progress. It's a shame the game couldn't have had better management and seen the vision through. It would have been amazing.

I've played ARK since its console launch and only recently acquired a copy of atlas, during the sale that had the official servers go down. I had assumed they had been down for years, like ARK Park's. The problem is that wildcard has successfully made a game that will have a audience so long as it is consistently updated. It allows them to make really bad choices and then not suffer the consequences. They won't learn.

Serious feedback: I think your editing thing of having certain sentences flash across the screen doesn't work. That and too many effects and transitions. It looks way too engagement-baity and doesn't really add much to the video. The ones with sentences flashing one word at a time are worse than the big text scrolls and blocks. It's like having a sign saying "Here, this is where you should feel... Something!" And more than that, it's just kind of messy to read. The content is great, but this over-editing really isn't very pleasant to watch.

I remember being so hyped about this game because I was a huge fan of ARK. ARK was already a mess, but somehow Atlas managed to be worse! There are so many small things to be annoyed about, and the developers barely address them. Like ARK, the game is riddled with bugs, performance issues, and poorly designed or unpolished mechanics. Instead of fixing existing problems, they just keep adding more unpolished content. Even with ARK: Survival Ascended, they only fixed some issues before moving on to new features, leaving many problems unresolved. Atlas had the potential to be something truly special, and ARK could have been so much better. It's disappointing that this is all we got. From what I've heard, Snail Games played a significant role in how these games turned out, and if that's true, I mostly blame them. very slim chance but hope that ARK 2 will turn out good.

I played it a launch, and it had so much potential. I jumped in from the start but only played it solo. That is also how I play Ark. I really enjoyed the game when it was just my wife and I playing together. The ship building and customization was fun. The game had lots of bugs but nothing that completely ruined the experience for us. Then they overhauled the map and all of our progress went away which was frustrating as we did not play on official severs so losing all our stuff was frustrating to say the least. In addition, the changes to ship building took away one of the best parts of the game. I was hopeful when they released a dedicated single player map but that was a complete dud. The last time I played the game was in 2022 and I was incredibly disappointed with the state of the game. Such a shame.

My problem with it today is how the devs just up and quit. No warning of any sort. Just left and let all of the die hard fans out to dry. There was so much potential for this game. Some small part of me believes that the devs wanted to make it a great game but because Wildcard kept stealing employees in favor of Ark, they just couldn't deliver. The mess was too big to begin with and then their manpower was taken away. It was doomed to fail from the start. If another truly independent company had developed this game, it would probably still be alive today.

Your video misses out on final bit of research. As an xbox player, we noticed that in April 24, we lost the ability to connect online. We had a massive clan playing on hosted server cluster. Enjoying our own role play. Anyway on the servers and PC players could still play, but we could not. Months went by, emails, tickets, and support were not answered. Grapecard 😂 refused our requests. In effect, we were ghosted. They shut and didn't renew access and Microsoft lease. We lost the ability to play and our years of building, ships, and resources. It also made some PC players very happy as there was often a stigma that us laggy console players reduced their building capacity. More importantly, the hosts lost their money as they paid nitrado months in advance. Paying for a server we could not play.

Personally, I still like playing the game on SP from time to time with mods 🤣 The only reason - as a modder - that I don't really mod creatures for Atlas is because, while basically a reskinned Ark, setting up new creature spawns in the Dev Kit is NOT user friendly; Well... mainly the ocean spawns were being a pain... which is a bit ironic for this game, for obvious reasons. As someone who's modded for ASE and now ASA, if the "base game" gets you bored, mixing and matching with mods can always spice things up. With Atlas, sure there's mods you can play with... but there's noticeably a severe lack of creature mods, and that's a big reason why. Now, we're all just modding Atlas creatures into ASA 🤣

I've played ATLAS since it's launch day... I ended up waiting until their Singleplayer update, and have been occasionally playing it ever since. The game is far too unstable to play Multiplayer, not to mention the need to rent multiple (potentially expensive) servers in order to get a full map up and running (because blackwood was left unfinished, and was never updated to be in-line with the game's newer content). All-in-all, ATLAS has content and mechanics that I kinda' wish ARK had (more fleshed-out farming and cooking, ability to hire NPC's to man various stations, treasure hunting, ships, a proper leveling system, etc.), and ATLAS makes a fantastic Singleplayer game that's actually fun to play, particularly with mods, for longer periods, but Multiplayer/Server play? No-siree. ATLAS pushed updates that hurt Singleplayer quite badly when they were trying to balance out MP, such as no longer being able to dig for gold or harvest metal at freeports/spawn zones, so you can no longer set sail from the freeport with a decent ship or at least some crew and tools, further extending early-game unnecessarily, and I understand why, but I always felt that they could've approached that better, too. Lest we not forget, I still have a screenie of the list of all of the systems, dinos, mechanics, and fixes they still have yet to add to ARK SE (because it's STILL unfinished!), and now they never will because they added quite a few of them to ASA. Nevertheless, I am still happy with ATLAS and ASE, especially thanks to mods (Such as the Kanda mods/The Hunted for ARK), so as long as I get to play each of them, I'm happy, I just wish they'd come back and actually fix/finish the game someday, maybe make trading actually useful in SP like i suggested to the dev's years ago. Make us singleplayer folk happy for once... They should've done it backwards, they should've released singleplayer first then turned it into an MMO later, would've been more successful that way, and probably would've fleshed out all of the map issues that they clearly never had time to work on.
@joey2drunk2play5817 күн бұрын
also they shouldn't have added past season 4, if they were going to add anything it should have been more quests(didn't have to be overly complex), i did like the bandit option for single player, even though i spent majority of it on official server.

1. You failed to mention that Wildcard was bought out by Snail Games 6 months after Ark Evolved hit steam's early access(Dec 2015). Lawsuit by Trendy was filed just after that(ie money leveraging). Not saying Steiglitz was innocent (as he wasnt) but Augy saw an opportunity and went for it(also there were lots of sour grapes. After Trendy got the settlement, their studio went to hell with far worse turn over, work place issues and more to the point it even rebranded and still hasn't been much of consequence 8+ years later. People often then blame Snail but WC et al with Steiglitz AND Snail top to bottom and bottom up are to blame. 2. Grapeshot, while in name was a different studio, it literally was in the same Gainesville, Florida office for Wildcard with devs from Ark dividing work time between both ark and atlas. 3. Nooblets did a video over a year ago that outlined the complete nonsense that occurred with the squandering of the revenue from Ark(which was accounting for 85%+ of the revenue of Snail Games/WC by the ceo Shi Hai with investing in an EV car start up that went bankrupt in Oct'23 also. 4. You also failed to mention that WC(and basically members from Grape) had a layoff last May. Rest that remained now are all on Ark.(Many were actually from Ark to begin with and just simply returned to it). 5. Never ever trust Wildcard/Snail when it comes to what they say but follow only what they do. Ark Ascended since its release last year is with the same kited issues that plagued both Evolved AND Atlas. They do enough to get by and that's it. And now due to their continuing financial troubles, Ascended is just a vehicle for selling mtx through split of revenue on mods between WC/Snail, the mod makers and Curseforge. 6. At least now though Snail/WC will have a tougher time of pulling these sorts of stunts on customers because of Steam's changes to dlc and season passes(if you didnt know and should look up).

"pirates instead of dinosaurs" As a guy with thousands of hours wasted in ark, I can recognize that almost 90% of the creatures in Atlas are reskined from ark. To me reskinning isn't that big a deal, like there's no reason to create new animations for a fish ...but the triceratops!?!?! How does that fit in a pirate game???

Ironic considering how popular it is to play as a pirate in Ark.

I remember playing this. It was okay but didn’t like the you’re character age increases that killed it for me. I did like the ship building that was fun.

I remember playing atlas on Xbox when it came out I had this really good solo world I would grind even though the game crashed a ton of times I would still play it but this one time it wouldn’t just let me load in my world and keep crashing the game and it made me sad and I gave up on the game I really loved what it was and what it was doing I loved the taming of animals and the pirate npc I could raid I really hoped it would make a comeback

made by those who made ARK. Ark was a broken af game and at the time they didn't listen to the users about the issues that needed to be fixed at the time. rubberbanding...dino pop max on servers... hackers. so many.

regular servers. spending 8+ real hours to tame that trike only for someone to offline you and kill your dinos.

Key players were removed early to work on that mess ark. Poor communication and outright ignoring the players complaints about bugs, the loop etc. I really enjoyed v1, minus the bugs/stability issues.

I wanted to love this game, but I encountered so many tedious and game-breaking bugs that just made it miserable to play. It got to a point where I just couldn't deal with it anymore. I still think about this game and its potential all the time. I wonder if all of the updates made since when I played in 2020 fixed the main bugs I had. I can tolerate jank here and there. I also wonder if it's even worth finding out.

Its a real shame Atlas died and is no longer being developed, it had massive potential but Ark became more popular and even though Ark is still far from perfect its an amazing game but hopfully Atlas gets picked up again because there is a place for it even today and with unreal 5 now in use, it should be picked up stripped back and rebuilt 😁😁😁😁😁

Ark is the best game ever made. I've played thousands of hours in so many games over the years (WoW,FF,DayZ,rust, destiny etc) . I always go back to Ark... Atlas sucked real bad on launch and most players went back to Ark 😂

I bought Atlas for $5 on a Christmas sale back in 2019. It was an AMAZING game IDEA. But, as usual with Wildcard, BAD execution. I wish it had been able to reach it's full potential. But one of the things that killed it which is least talked about, each and every Square on a map was a server! You had to spend nearly $100/month to host a decent sized map with 20 slots for your friends! That was outrageous. The only way it could be hosted was via self hosting which not everyone does/likes. Poor design choice right there killed any hope for the game for most players. I gave up playing after the last content patch broke everything including most of the mods. At some point I expect it will be removed from Steam entirely.

Why can’t nobody make a pirate game!!! Only one that was good was Assassins creed and skull and bones was a Boat sim. Which it was assassins creed now when you can play the whole game as a role player

Ive played many titles like this: Ark Survival: 7k hours (ASE) and 340 hours (ASA) Atlas: 2.6K hours Conan Exiles: 900 hours Valheim: 40 hours and now Enshrouded: about 100 Hours in. What gives these games their longevity is often unofficial servers that roll mods. A lot of people will find servers and stick to them or run/rent them themselves. They allow for a lot of different play-styles (PVP, PVE, RP) and are often kept alive by those same crowds. Ark has a lot of glaring issues and everyone, even those who play daily, know, the devs are absolute shit. They do no sort of QA work at all, letting their paying customers test their bug ridden game for them. Atlas was much the same. I played on a few RP servers. Mainly DarksideRP, and even their admins had to constantly fight the game's horrible code just to get mods implemented and functional and make the game just a bit better. (hats off to them honestly) but beyond that I agree Atlas was a disaster from day 1. It was sad to watch the excitement die and full the incompetence of wildcard leadership/management and their greed ridden overlords at Snail Games in full display. Atlas is dead and will likely remain so, but Ark survives because well, there is nothing else like it. Until a new similar game pops up people will still play or go back to it, me included. I not so secretly hope it does. Here is something fun we learned about Atlas's code: The pirate ships are coded as "Dinos" just like all creature in ARK. We had an instance on DarksideRP's atlas server where a game update caused the Rafts to become sentient as if they were NPC animals. Hilarious moment.

I think some of the criticism of both Ark and Atlas wasn't exactly warranted here. Mainly about the part/s that you said you could lose it all offline & grindy etc. Those are indeed huge parts of the game and definitely a big hurt for Atlas when it comes to it's grind, they either needed to make it so ship captains could bring their ships and 'upload' them in AFK zones with a limit of one ship etc so they can go to bed safe. That said, the whole part of you logging out but your character still being in the game is a huge staple of what made Ark and what could have been Atlas. It's not just a standard game, It's a Open World survival PVP sandbox. That isn't a criticism thats a feature. Anyone complaining about that in either game as mechanics they just do not like, these types of games were never for them to begin with and they should stick to other games. Ark also is, for all it's flaws one of the best games ever made and still remains to this day entirely unrivalled which is sad. Companies are too scared to take on a massive task like a Open World PVP sandbox like Ark or what Atlas could have been.

This is kind of misses the mark tbh. Atlas was a Ark clone. Literally developed as an expansion for Ark before devs decide to make it a stand alone game. At release all of the systems in the game were identical to ark aside from the vitals, ship building, and sailing. Meaning Atlas was a full loot, sandbox mmo. Such games really dont appeal to a wider audience but can find a niche audience. However the games wildly successful gorilla marketing caught the attention of more a casual gamers who would be quick to reject the game. After that Atlas had a terrible literally unplayable launch far worst then what this video eludes to. This plus the fact that devs failed to tag the game as "early access" on the steam page led to Valve offering a refund to everyone regardless of playtime. It took grapeshot a month to release a couple of patch that would fix most of the games stability issues and bugs but by then the damage had already been done. Atlas became steams all-time most refunded game.
