One thing I've noticed ballet has really taught me is mindfulness to my body. When I was in PE class someone would hurt a muscle and I would be able to tell which muscle it was and how to stretch it or massage it, while they can't even tell whether it's a muscle or a bone.
@melissasmith67625 жыл бұрын
And you just assumed you were correct.
@totallynoticarus5 жыл бұрын
@@melissasmith6762 I don't always. But surprisingly when you hurt a muscle, you stretch it and afterwards the pain disappears, you know it worked. Or when you hurt yourself and when you massage it you can feel the pain when you hit a certain knot, you know it's that one. Or, my personal favourite, when I hurt my knee, tried to massage it, could point at which tendon it was and afterwards the physiotherapist I went to confirmed it.
@melissasmith67625 жыл бұрын
@@totallynoticarus Not sure what you mean by 'hurt'. I don't think stretching would help if you pulled a muscle for instance.

@@melissasmith6762 It does to a certain extent. But you can also just take a wrong step and hurt one of your muscles. Like rolling your ankle.

People are always amazed that a person, male, of my age can be so dedicated to this art form. But I tell everybody who will listen: This is the best thing you can do for yourself, no matter how old you are. If I can do it, I know you can.

Ballet is really important and it's a lot more than the dance itself. It's the reason I bother to do things after school on a Friday, because I have a class to get to. People have commented on how my posture has improved, I have better flexibility, and it's the perfect thing to keep me fit with my lower stamina and anaemia. I'd argue the most intensive part of the class is the jumps, for sure.

I started learning ballet last year at the age of 22. I've always had big dreams, but before, I tended to give up everytime i encountered a difficulty. I always felt like a failure. And precisely like you say in this talk, ballet made a big change. I may have felt hopeless during some classes, i've kept attending to ballet (3 classes a week, now!) because I keep in mind that the only way to improve is going on. And it's only one of the wonders that ballet brought to my life... Thank you for your inspiring video !

I'm 15 and just started dancing a few months ago. These benefits are so real!! My dance studio is a bit different, and they teach dance to anyone who wants to learn, including older and disabled people, and people of all body types. At our studio, progress is not measured by the amount of time you have spent dancing, but by the hard work you put in, and the fruit of your labor. Because of this, even though I've never danced before coming to VOW, I'll be going en pointe this month, and I am so thankful that I get to do such a wonderful thing.

Although I highly recommend that every one should wear one at some point in their lives. Leotards, tights, if we are extremely lucky, pointe shoes and tutus bring about such a sense of accomplishment and pride in oneself and for our fellow dancers. I'd say both the mother's and father's letter were right, they just phrased it differently. Lol. All those things children (and adults) can learn from ballet can also be learned through other activities. And also aren't guaranteed. Don't "send" your children to learn ballet, let them learn ballet if they want to, not for the sake of "building character" but for the sake of them enjoying themselves. Or karate. Or tennis. Or chess. Or guitar. Or painting.

@katherinekauffman17465 жыл бұрын
@@elliem7171 Unfortunately, I've been out of dance for about a year and I've lost so much muscle and flexibility. I wouldn't even know how to go back to my studio. All the other studios have a lot of problems with modesty and even worse girls, so another place isn't an option. I'm not sure that I'd be starting all over, but that's what it feels like. Part of me is telling me that I just need to move on with my life. That since I've already quit it, it's too late to go back and that that chapter of my life should be closed. I never made friends at dance and some of the girls weren't nicest and one of them was literally the rudest person I have pretty much ever met. I almost feel embarrassed to go back. Does that make sense? It sounds weird to say, but after being away for a year, I just feel weird going back. I don't want to regret not going, but I don't want to regret going either. Once I sign up, I'm signed up for a semester and I can't really quit.

Katherine Kauffman- I understand your situation. My ballet school last year did not have the nicest of girls and I often felt isolated (I was also shy too but they wouldn’t talk to me a lot). I’m sorry you went through that and you’re not alone. Maybe you could do some private lessons to get you back into it and see how it goes from there.
@katherinekauffman17465 жыл бұрын
@@elliem7171 The only possible issue with private lessons is the cost, they definitely aren't cheap! But, it might be worth it. If money allows, I might take some private lessons and see how I'm feeling. I haven't really done much heavy exercising other than riding once a week. There was also some frustration with the main teacher there as I felt she was a little bit unfair in her point shoe decision. I missed quite a few weeks (but still kept up with all my dances and performed just like all the other girls) for being sick and therefore didn't get them. Another girl badly dislocated her knees like five times and got them, and then another had only taken ballet for two school semesters and got them. I do know she was trying to do what's best for me, but pointe shoes are something I've always wanted and I just felt like with the couple years before that, that there was always going to be something in the way. The other issue is that we had to start wearing leggings or tights (no dance shorts) while we danced which sucks because I get overheated very easily.

Being a ballerina is my biggest dream, but I know it'll never happen because I'm 17 and I only dance 2 hours a week...

Don't lose hope even if you dance 2 hours a week make the most of those 2 hours if it is possible for you then practice half an hour every day at home and ask your teacher about everything that you think you need to be corrected about . if you do this then trust me you will be the best 17 year old ballerina and remember dreams can come true DARE TO DREAM 😊😊❤
