One of the best yet most frustrating performances I've ever seen from Barca. This team made me feel like I was brought back to 2015 and watching Lucho's Barca with that incredible first half. But it unfortunately lacked one of the key elements which is taking advantage of your good moments in the game and scoring when you have the opportunity.( Of course not gonna be as easy with Raphinha instead of Messi but still). The UCL is all about the details, it doesn't matter if you played well for 80 minutes, if you didn't score during that period then let your guard down for 10 minutes you're getting punished. Lewandowski out of all people would burry those chances on any other day, but this squad is lacking that dawg in them rn. That performance proved that we are capable of competing with any big team, but not necessarily win in the end, we will most likely win laliga playing like that but not the UCL(like man city over the years). A positive tho is this came very early in the season, so there is a chance this could be a mental nexus event that will make them tougher mentally so they learn to be killers in big games (like what happened after the 2-3 vs PSG away in 2014/15/.

Ilkay Gundogan says it has been a "total privilege and pleasure" to play for Manchester City after joining Barcelona on a free transfer. Gundogan was offered a new deal by City but will instead move to the Spanish champions on a two-year deal, with the option to extend for another year. The 32-year-old's contract with City expires at the end of June. "Manchester has been my home and I have felt part of a very special family at City," the Germany midfielder said. Gundogan played 51 games in 2022-23, scoring 11 goals, as he played a key role in City winning the Treble. He scored six goals in his final seven games - including a double in the FA Cup final win over Manchester United.

Wow.... Finally an analyst that had the same point of view as myself. Our front was constantly isolated and their action looks so nervous. Our failure is to keep the pressure constantly towards bayern half. Any rebound or fumble ball inside the penalty box was unable to be retain. And another point is that busquest aging did catch him up pretty badly on the 2nd half. He might able to perform good in the league but with a higher intensity match like this, having him played beyond 45 minutes will worn out him so much and cost us the backline wide open.

I agree, but I think Barça needs its metronome in the miedfieled alongside Busquets, as Xavi used to play. This role is highly strategic, especially when your forwards spend a lot of energy pressing and need to recover to regain their lucidity. However, this requieres some changes from a positional PoV : the LB should push up in the left wing ; and the original LW to position in the left half space between the lines. Our new LB Alonso and Baldé would be happy to push high. However Dembélé is not comfortable in the left half space. The only player who can play in the left HS except Pedri is Gavi... May be Memphis, Fati or Pablo Torre... I hope Xavi will test this system against Inter, because we'll need this in the big games. Either with Gavi as false LW with Kessié as a RCM alongside Busquets-Pedri in the midfield. Or De Jong as the metronome as LCM and Pedri as the RCM bit higher in the pitch. Nope. That’s not how the second goal was scored by your logic. Sane is the wide winger that pins down the fullback Alonso. Sane scored the goal centrally so it nullifies your claim. The goal was scored by lack of concerntration from our team. We talk about the space but if you noticed about the build up. The pace came from pedri because he was pressing high. Both dembele and pedri was pressing Mazraoui but he broke the press by passing to the free man musiala. Xavi system requires a 1 v 1 press and that’s the danger when 2 players mark a press a player. Christensen was out of position and wasn’t marking any one. This brought araujo into Christensen position marking muller and that created space which kounde tried to close down but he was too late. Araujo was marking muller who was taking him wide and Alonso was with sane but sane moved centrally while muller moved to the wings and Alonso chose to stay with muller but muller. the entire backline was in confusion and that gave Musiala and sane license to attack and take advantage of it. It wasn’t tactically from naglesman but individual errors and naivety from our defense together with individual brillance of Musiala and sane that got the killer goal.

The problem is the ball won't move up the pitch well unless Pedri is retrieving it. Just imagine a nervous Kounde trying to pick a good pass from the back. Pedri's decision to play further back is vital solely because there is no one to do that job and do it well. De Jong would be needed for that missing link which means De jong should play every game. De Jong playing in the back will free up Pedri to worry about attacking only and finding the killer pass behind the opponent's defense instead of thinking about retrieving and moving up the pitch.

Pedri dropping deep can be easily solved if Xavi can find a way to integrate FDJ into the system, especially when we are building up. Gavi's recoveries and work rate have been exceptional so it's going to be a challenge. But De Jong's skill set is too precious to be left on the bench. I really believe he can be the missing piece to this haphazard style of play we sometimes showcase. Freeing up Pedri, and allowing a more stable build up in the final third. We've got the pieces, hope Xavi can find a way to fit them together soon
@crypto_mbappe30562 жыл бұрын
Yes. Xavi always introduce fDJ when he wants total control but knowing a team like Bayern and the quality they have. You can’t always have that especially with the speed they break in transistions. If FDJ can improve on his passing, creativity and his defensive abilities. He will start. That’s a big if because FDJ is an already established player. Every player in the squad has to improve and they will. The pressure is there.

Considering your point about Pedri having to play deeper than he would want to in order to support Busquets, what are your thoughts on possibly playing a midfield system similar to Bayern where Pedri plays as a CAM and de Jong and Kessie/Busquets play in a double pivot? This would obviously allow Pedri to play further up the field but It would also allow de Jong to play in his best position and demonstrate his ball-progressing abilities. Kessie is also quick and physical enough to cover for any spaces vacated by de Jong.
@biruk3162 жыл бұрын

@innerpeace_memo5002 жыл бұрын
This won't work on three levels imo: 1- when playing 2 pivots, one needs to be more aggressive, a destroyer who can tackle and win the ball quickly. Neither kessie nor fdj is that sort of player, kessie in particular is good defensively but really patient, he doesn't attack the ball , but wont be get passed easily either. Busquest made maybe the most successful tackles in this game. 2- neither of them has the long passing range that kimmich has for example. Fdj can carry the ball, but we saw that he might lose the ball in dangerous situations. 3- pedri is not a number 10, he can score goals, but not a goal threat like Muller or Bruno Fernandez.
@owanmah29332 жыл бұрын
@@innerpeace_memo500 Interesting take but I think kessie would work quite well as a destroyer-type player. I remember watching him in preseason and being impressed with his ball-winning capabilities and intense physicality. But he hasn't played enough yet this season for me to form a proper profile on him so I guess we'll have to wait and see. I agree that de Jong and Kessie don't have the greatest long passing but I feel the likes of Pedri and Eric Garcia can make up for that. As for Pedri not being a number 10, that might be true but considering our attack I don't think he would need to shoulder any big responsibilities when it comes to scoring goals. Even then, Pedri showed against Bayern that he is more than capable of getting into goal scoring positions, he just needs to touch up on his finishing. And considering he is only 19, he still has so much time to improve on other aspects of his game.

this is anabsoulutly wonderful analysis video, i subsribed, i think de jong in as a defensive mid is the solution for pedri not having to come as deep, he progresses the ball through dribbling or and keeps the ball, teams usually try to press de jong to make sure he dosent do that kind of runs, or playing eric garcia who is one of the best progressors of the ball and is calm in possession, as the first goal came i saw barca going crazy trying to force it up the field i knew that it would go wrong, xavi should have told them to calm down and play, i also think the pressing can be a little sustainable with the 5 subs which we have now in today's game, barca need a leader to deal with game management which is our downfall, we could have passed bayern to death if we wanted to, but we needed to score to really do that

Unfortunately Barcelona don’t have the experience playing together so much. That’s why we aren’t ready to win the CL yet but things are looking bright for the future.

This is not the complete Barcelona. It's still growing up. This is just 65% or 70% of Barça's real power. The team needs more matches to get more experience in high level football. Don't forget that Xavi's Barça was recovering from absolute ruin since November 2021. Great projects take time and the 'Blaugrana' knows it. Just look at Klopp's Liverpool, Conte's Juventus, Rijkaard's Barcelona, Guardiola's City, etc. So relax, that FC Barcelona will evolve as a team and you'll see it. ¡¡Força Barça!! 🔵🔴

If Barca brings in Ruben Neves as a CDM, this Barca could be nearly unstoppable.
@danielmayhuasca38332 жыл бұрын
@@pemzg He is an awesome player for that position. We can also think about Palhinha, Sangaré or even Kessié (well readapted) to be there. It's so difficult to replace Busquets, but it's not impossible.

@danielmayhuasca38332 жыл бұрын
@@oyemifeanyi1168 This is the first regular season for Xavi, and about Guardiola and Barça, you should consider that there was a complete team before Pep arrival. Just look at 08/09 window transfer and you'll see that Barça didn't buy important players for the team.

Barca easily could have had 5 goals in this game. All other stats staying the same, the narrative would be completely different. Tired players shouldn't have been an issue. Barca has a deep bench with plenty of quality. The second match vs Bayern with the same style of play, Barca could easily run riot in the Camp Nou.

you hit the nail on the head with this analysis... I watched the match even tho Barca played well I felt something was off couldn't put a pin on it I was really frustrated every time Raphina and Dembele cuts in loses the ball when there was an easy pass ... I was shouting pass pass pass all the time.. I know they both are really good at creating but we are going out of style... sometimes we were trying to cross the ball when only Lewy was in the center that never happens to Barca literally never... I think with the current system and players we are trying to be more direct that's also the problem Barca isn't made for that style. we need to pick and chose the moments to do that and I think we can't both Raphina and Dembelle they both are very similar types of players if you actually see the match we controlled more when we had Ferran on / later with ansu because of the possession play that they .. We need to trust them more they will bring balance and variety to the game.
@animemoments84962 жыл бұрын
We need to box runner alongside lewa if we have two of ghose we release one of our midfielders to be availble for passing lane and make one fullback to the wing outside like. Davies . Otherwise creating box donger totally falls on lewandowski and interiors who are already pressing as hell aslo so while pressing and creating those underlapping runs you lose so much energy thats why ball retention is very important our team our last 20 minutes was good you know that was klonly the time we had good possesion reason was bayern were also pretty worn out and switched to manage the game on transitions
@edsonmawalla42032 жыл бұрын
The problem is that xavi wants a direct system which is why he has plays with direct wingers, the more time passes the more direct Barcelona are getting

Very good analysis. I think the problem of keeping the ball is not just because of the wingers. But also a mid-field problem. The zone where Barça is supposed to retain the ball is at the centre not at the wide areas. But Xavi doesn't really work on keeping the ball at the centre for Barcelona, but controlling directly up front
@fareshossam2652 жыл бұрын

@leface302 жыл бұрын
Too much reliance on individual quality..Xavi has to use the halfspaces better when setting up tactics. Wingers hold the ball for far too long than needed and our 8s are only used to push their respective men back by making runs deep in the box rather than using them as a focus outside the box to make a 1-2 pass to the winger/wingback
@d_hedgehog29702 жыл бұрын
Brilliant analysis...i am so happy that someone is pointing this out ....I have been trying tell everyone that majority of Braca's goals come from counter attacks which in itself is not bad ofcourse.....But everyone keeps going on about this old Barca style is back now...it is not. They are very poor at keeping the ball as pointed out.....

Just a question. If you think back to 10 years ago we used to see Xavi take on a deep lying planning role keeping the tempo of the team while popping up in the final third to give assists. Do you guys think in this day and age of football we could see Pedri doing the same?
@thepurist_2 жыл бұрын
He could, definitely. But then you lose one of Barca’s best playmakers around the box. My point is that he can’t be BOTH - which is what is required of him at the moment.

Superb analysis. How I was missing someone like you on KZbin, someone who could save me from the sequels of some certain barca talking..... Dembelé has a decision-making problem. he needs to learn how to handle a situation. He is one of the most unselfish players you can ever find at this level of football. He looses the ball due to the lack of clear thinking. When it comes to Raphina, loosing the ball or shooting it unnecessarily, the story is different. I hope Ansu coming back soon to play on the left so Dembelè can play permanently on the right where he is much more effective.
