Barbara Mandrell is one of country music's most successful artists of all time and certainly of those most talented. Where did she go?
#barbaramandrell #barbaramandrellsongs #iwascountry #secrethistory
Why Bobbie Gentry Vanished? • Why Bobbie Gentry Vani...
Why Paula Deen Disappeared? • Why Paula Deen Disappe...
Why Ricky Van Shelton Vanished? • Why Ricky Van Shelton ...
Barbara Mandrell is known for songs like “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool,” “Sleeping Single In a Double Bed,” “(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don’t Want To Be Right” and more. She won back-to-back CMA Awards for Entertainer of the Year and remained a dominant woman in country music into the 1990s.
Why did she disappear?
The answer doesn’t have as much to do with a deadly car accident as it does what happened immediately afterward. Mandrell and her husband are no longer active in country music, but they’re still active. This Secret History of Country Music video explores what happened to Barbara Mandrell.

Cyd Kriletich When I met Barbara Mandrell in the 1970's Country was enjoying a surge, but she complained about being passed by newer female artists. I joked that she was Country before it was cool. I met her in a small bar/sandwich shop where she was singing by herself. Someone was heckling her. I told the guy to shut up. She talked to me later and told me the heckler was her husband and he wanted to go leave. :)

I had the great pleasure of being in an opening act with my band for a couple of her shows in 1973. We actually backed her up on one of the shows. As mentioned in this video, her act included playing every instrument on stage including mine - the bass. Since I'm 6' 4" and she's about 5' 2" or shorter, there was a problem of getting the bass to fit without it touching the floor. She said that when it was her time to solo on the bass, for me to keep it on and she would stand behind me and reach around and play my bass while my hands were up in the air. That got a huge response from the audience and after the show we talked backstage for a while. She was so down to earth and super talented!

Barbara Mandrell was the original trailblazer for women in country music and crossed over into multiple styles of music from r&b, to christian to pop. Multitalented, creative and signed autographs for every single fan after her live shows. Played like a million instruments. Was country when country wasn't cool and so, so, so much more. Music is what it is in part because of this legendary lady and her incredibly wise father/manager for many years. Thanks for doing this video.

This woman had some really good songs back in the 70's and 80's. She suffered a very bad car accident back in 1984 and that kind of changed her. She went through a very dark period with recovery after the accident and her husband and kids were there for her and that is what helped her recover. I remember her mentioning in old interview years back that she said it is a blessing to wake up everyday not be in any kind of physical pain because after the accident she suffered for quite a while and when she got better she was very thankful. As this woman got older she just withdrew from the industry because she had her time and knew it.

Let’s don’t forget her sisters who also performed with her as the “Mandrell Sisters”. They might not have been on quite the same level but I tell you what the three of them together were a sight to behold. If you’re a jealous woman you probably didn’t want your man watching.

I remember going to a Louise Mandrell concert at the Kaneohe Officer's Club in the 80's. What a performer! Wish I could have seen Barbara on stage. She and I are the same height! (very short!) I have seen a lot of their albums for sale on eBay lately (but none that I don't already have). I wonder what gives on that? Barb is so talented!

by far the most talented country performer of all time. One of the few who could and DID compete on the level of other genres in regards to a powerhouse performer. Singer. musician. comedian, dancer she did it all EXCEPTIONALLY WELL. No one has come close to matching her in all the years since she left the industry. Her legacy is and always will be having been a MASTER of her craft.

Irlene did Home Shows in Nashville and Louise had her own theater in Pigeon Forge, TN for 10 years but sold it to go home and take care of her husband. Barbara gave up her TV show due to a nodule on her vocal chords that was going to make her lose her voice. I absolutely would not miss their TV show. Loved Barbara and her sisters. Had she been able to keep going with her career, I might have gone on to be a performer instead of a music teacher…she was an amazing talent and really could do it all. ❤️❤️❤️.
