I had the great pleasure of being in an opening act with my band for a couple of her shows in 1973. We actually backed her up on one of the shows. As mentioned in this video, her act included playing every instrument on stage including mine - the bass. Since I'm 6' 4" and she's about 5' 2" or shorter, there was a problem of getting the bass to fit without it touching the floor. She said that when it was her time to solo on the bass, for me to keep it on and she would stand behind me and reach around and play my bass while my hands were up in the air. That got a huge response from the audience and after the show we talked backstage for a while. She was so down to earth and super talented!

This woman had some really good songs back in the 70's and 80's. She suffered a very bad car accident back in 1984 and that kind of changed her. She went through a very dark period with recovery after the accident and her husband and kids were there for her and that is what helped her recover. I remember her mentioning in old interview years back that she said it is a blessing to wake up everyday not be in any kind of physical pain because after the accident she suffered for quite a while and when she got better she was very thankful. As this woman got older she just withdrew from the industry because she had her time and knew it.

Actually she was hurt a lot more than the public was told. However, I do believe she walked away because she had her priorities straight :-)

I saw her at a small carnival in the 1970's and I was so impressed with her! She played every instrument on that stage! What a talented women she was/is! One of the best ever country female artists!

I grew up watching the Mandrell Sisters. I still play their CD’s (Barbara and Louise [Louise is stunningly gorgeous]) and have their records on my Apple phone/iPod. I still jam out to them often .

My friend Dave Salyer played Guitar for Barbara’s band for years. He LOVED it. Very family oriented. Dave could Play Hendrix when he was 14. One of those naturals and a fine man. Today happens to be his birthday. He still performs to this day. Sometimes at the Opry.

I’m 48 and remember her show with her sisters. I’ve never been a country music fan, my abusive step father ruined it for me, although I remember liking their show and her music. As a kid, I didn’t even realize how talented she is. She’s like Prince.

I got to meet Barbara when she was still playing in clubs in the late 70's. She and my husband shared the same birthday. She was so tiny but her voice was so big. Sweet lady. Forgot to add that she sat at the table with us after her show-very much the downhome country girl.

She certainly was an extraordinarily great instrumentalist and singer. However. I didn't realize that she had written more songs than the reported over 3,000 that Dolly has.

“Is” an extraordinary great instrumentalist and singer. She just doesn’t play or sing much now.

I remember that her television show with her sisters was must watch TV! Barbara Mandrell could sing Dan’s and play a dozen instruments with ease… Those variety shows were great fun for my siblings and me… even my parents took the time to enjoy the show many times. I have very fond memories of those nights watching great entertainment with my family.

I remember seeing her at some small outdoor event in Nashville in the summer of 1985 when I was 10 years old on vacation with my parents. That was one of the most memorable vacations. I love Nashville.
