Күн бұрын

Today I show you one of my favorite, and most under-appreciated pedal lines from 2006. These BBE pedals are some of the coolest looking and sounding pedals out there that you can currently buy for under $100 (as of time of filming 😉). Join me as we peruse powerful pieces of pedal prestige in today's episode. In the comments let me know some mid 2000s albums that you like.

A remarkable mid 2000's album to me is 2005's Silent Alarm by Bloc Party. 80's new wave using bright, clean effected guitars often sounded great but thin and lacking punch when recorded. This albums guitars are bright but are not thin. Add in the driving drum beats and you have a winner!

Credulous as I am, I thought Josh was sharing his love for pedals. The fact is, JHS can't add every pedal to their line and one of the odd ones you see from Josh's collection could be the very thing that you need to make your life complete. Then, I saw your "Make Biking Great Again" shirt, and for the for the first minute, I was thinking, "Wow...a channel with a significant number of viewers all about bicycle pedals..." Great album choice. Spoon is the only band that I have ever seen live that had perfect sound. As in: I went to the show and put in my ear plugs expecting the usually barrage of too much sound for such a small venue. But when the band began to play I promptly realised the ear plugs were not necessary and upon removing them I was treated to a perfect mix of highs, lows, and mids accompanied by completely discernible vocals. It was a once in a lifetime event that I fear I shall never again have the privilege to be able to witness. PS: I have seen a lot of shows before and after that show. PPS: Please don’t ever joke about not making videos again. That was mildly traumatic.

I have two sonic stomps, usually using just one but with split signal situations it's nice for dialing each channel differently, really nice for "replace bass player with pedal". I don't like having them at the end of the chain because I find overdrive pedals lose some of the front-of-amp-pushing ability, so I usually have it in front of the chain, and yeah, always on.

@@michaelkupfer3723 I got mine years ago for $25. Obviously how anything sounds is subjective, but they don't sound like shit at all. If you're not looking for a Univox/Shin Ei Super Fuzz deal, or just a straight up affordable FZ-2, it's probably the wrong pedal for you altogether and I'd likely agree that it sounds like shit for what you're going for. Hell, I'd say it sounded like shit when I would try using it in the wrong places. I'd never use it as my only fuzz. I have a Hyper Fuzz that I've had around forever. I could kind of use them together and cover the grounds completely, but I just use other fuzzes. I use the Behringer instead because it does more by accident than the Boss does, and I can replace it. Once it breaks in, you get the Easter egg fuzz 3 setting by putting the switch between 1 and 2. Other than that, they only differ a small amount anyway, and you can dial that in easily. They only differ because I've never played two Hyper Fuzzes that were exactly the same and the Behringers are consistent, so I figure they have that going for them at the very least. It's definitely over the top, unless you're trying to play some Smashing Pumpkins or you're looking to Dopethrone the thing haha. I don't use fuzz 1 on it at all, and I keep the gain turned down on it on fuzz 2. They tighten up fairly well with an overdrive in front. The accidental 3rd setting in between them is all around better than both of them. At that point, you have a far more usable fuzz with parametric EQ. I still think any Super Fuzz based pedal will always be the least versatile of anything. Where it's a sleeper is that even those of us who love them will usually say that the boost setting is the best thing about it. It bypasses the volume control, but it's absolutely huge. The EQ and gain controls allow you to do anything you want with it at that point. I've talked to so many people who have bought FZ-2s for the boost setting and nothing else. I knew the boost was great, but I never knew it was that great.

The Opto Stomp is great on bass guitar too. Can you do a series on bass pedals one time? Or how about typical bass pedals that are actually nice on guitar too, or the other way around.

BBE circuit for the Sonic Maximizers is a Must for a PA system. It time aligns the crossover points where issues happen even w/the very best speakers it seems it adds Low & Highs but it's revealing your sound , like taking a blanket off your PA system. Great on Drum buss too.

And thank you for acknowledging the "Josh factor" on cheap pedal market pricing. BTW, I noticed in one case, it's not a permanent bump. Right after you did the video that included the Behringer Super Fuzz, the prices about tripled. But recently, I've seen them back down to nearly "pre video" prices.

I have a Sonic Stomp and a Soul Vibe. Both are really cool. Funny thing, I used to live in Brazil and "bosta" means "shit" in portuguese. So the Boosta Grande was a funny name to us. I remember the later releases with funky graphics and the Boosta Grande had a bull on it. I always wondered if it was an intentional play on words, like "bullshit". BBE is awesome.

I put a Two-Timer delay on my board when I caught it on a stupid daily special at that one website, and it's been my favorite delay since. Had a drunk fall on my board and push one of the knobs into the pedal at an insane angle, and she still works perfectly. Can't say enough about BBE products.
