Empty bus seats around me, service people running away when I answer the door, onsen empties if I get in… etc. but what shocked me this time was we are trying to adopt a rescue cat.spouse fills out forms in Japanese, passport, ID, Mynumber, house ownership paperwork submitted… but the major rescue/shelters ignored us. Oh well, we moved on to Jimoty to try small independent rescues and rehoming posts… Today we got our 5th RUDE response that they won’t deal with “foreigners”… Dispite 3 decades of animal rescue and experience and us owning outright a 7ldk and work from home… we are unfit cat parents- because cats here only speak Japanese I guess?! Like, WTAF?! We literally are now driving 3 hrs bc no one nearby will consider us, even as permanent residents and spouse has the magic bloodline… yeeeesh.

He's a lot more charismatic and especially casual and genuine than you usually expect from a japanese street vendor (or whatever generic term you wanna use for "person who sells good or services by talking to people in public"). Unless a kids TV program was Japanese (like Doraemon) she watched everything in English. I read English books to her until she started reading to me. Pearl, I'm American and my son who currently resides in Tokorozawa is Japanese-American, he was born in 1988 during a 12 year period I lived in Japan. Back then, being a "half" as you refer to it was still very unusual. At the time, I didn't like the word half because I thought that no human should be called half so I coined the phrase "Double" which at that time nobody had heard before. I kept using Double to describe him with all my friends, co-workers etc. and now it is my understanding that it is used quite often in Japan to describe mixed race Japanese. Might be hard to believe but I credit myself for starting this trend.

It's sad to see native people's culture diluted and them lose control of their own nations no matter what people it is. And I don't blame the ppl who immigrate in mass, it's the elites in the EU who push it and the ones who make other nations unlivable with their wars and religious/tribal garbage. It's just sad for both ppl who are losing their cultural and national identity and the ppl who have to escape theirs as well.

I can totally relate to this 😂. Whenever I transit through an airport in Japan I am asked to show my passport (Japanese) at the security checkpoint. The Japanese security officers then ask me questions in broken English while I reply in native Japanese 😅. Yet the officers still refuse to speak to me in Japanese.

I have distant Japanese ancestry - 11 generations back - & more-recent Swedish ancestry - from only 3 generations back (among many other ancestral ties). IMO, it's all good (& I wouldn't be able to write this without them; so, I thank God for bringing them all together as He did). Now, to me her face appears more Japanese than Swedish & her figure looks quite Scandinavian-like (as in hour-glass like): quite nice overall (whether or not she's mistaken for a foreigner among her own Peoples). 😎👍 I have so many racial, ethnic, & regional mixes in my ancestry that I wonder if any of my ancestors had any great social issues to deal with in their lives (esp since many were at war with one another at some point in time). Now, she comes across as if Japanese men don't seem to like her looks; but, the rumor is that Japanese men aren't pursuing women much lately (& Japan's birth-rate is way down); so, currently she might be experiencing more of a national trend than a personal rejection (& hopefully this situation will change sometime soon).

A lovely young woman and I can definitely see her as Japanese. If she was to wear her hair in a more Japanese style and also clothing she would be instantly taken to be Japanese by an Australian like me. Although, I can see how frustrating it can always be seen as a foreigner. Japanese prospective partners don't know what they are missing. OFC she should not have to compromise her style to please others. 💖

Hey Pearl. I know it is nearly 2025 and we are not supposed to comment on others appearances these days, but you really do suit the hair tied back look.

She never dated in Japan? Guess she needs a wing man because both of the guys you guys talked with looked like they were in love with her. Perception is funny. I live in Southern Illinois after living most of my life in the Chicago suburbs. If you are not familiar with US, Illinois is a very long state. When I first moved here people constantly asked me where I was from. I've never lived in another state in 69 years!! The regions of the US are all so different..

I am white and got told by a Japanese man that I look more Japanese than him and it's weird I don't try and learn Japanese because when I smile I look like his mom and would blend in so well with his family. 😂😂 Idk if I was insulted or fascinated but then he found out I enjoy learning about Japan and my family history with the country and he said" see see you were Japanese in your past life. You know more than I do and I been there and was forced to remember our history. I forgot it all but still." He tried to teach me some Japanese but learning other languages makes me nervous. My family is French, and I though understand French, Spanish, and Portuguese. I can not speak it confidently, though my accent and pronunciation are perfect. I am on a server that is mostly all Brazilian. 😂 They are amazed at what I understand and don't. I am good at reading and writing even in English than speaking it.

Like this girl, my 5 friends who are half say they didn't face discrimination in Japan, just curiosity. They said they faced more discrimination in America and Europe than they did in Japan.

I also think so. Especially half women get fetishized in Europe. As a german woman with japanese husband, i have a baby daughter and definitley dont want that to happen to her. She will grow up in Japan

Her accent is British despite her Dad being Swedish.

She’s talented at languages. She lives in London now and has picked up the accent really well.

This might be a weird thing to say, but as an Englishman, I appreciate your accent when you speak English (to Pia) also you look great/cool. Did you live in London or the surrounding counties? I’m from Essex and spent 5 years trying to learn Japanese near Tottenham Court Road. Aahhhh nail artist in London?! Your accent is nice. そして、きれいだね

Honestly, I think one of the biggest things that makes her look Latina is her hairstyle and false lashes. As a child she looked very Japanese with her clothes and hair. Now with a slick back bun and long lashes, very Latina looking. I think if she had bangs and maybe a long Bob with common japanese makeup, she'd look more Japanese. I never realized that a hairstyle can really alter a person's look! Beautiful either way. 😊
