Say what you want about Cosby, but him basically telling Richard that if he was going to be big, he had to develop his own style, was actually some of the greatest advice Pryor could have ever received. I believe Pryor was the greatest Stand-up comedian of all-time, but Cosby (before the scandal) was more groundbreaking. He represented the black community with a great sense of dignity and respect that really needed to be showcased at that point and time especially. Pryor was probably the 1st black comedian to display a human quality about him that was able to resonate with people of all different backgrounds. Both made a unique impact in different ways.

Correction, Richard Pryor changed his act by frequently visiting nightclubs in Oakland California not Berkeley California!!!! Richard Pryor hung around the pimps and hustlers in Oakland that's why his comedy routine went from clean to raunchy. In 1972 that's why he was specifically chosen to be in the movie The Mack which was filmed in Oakland. Berkeley had a lot of white hippies in the late 60's early 70' and Richard Pryor didn't hang out at their venues to change up his comedy routine, he crafted his skills amongst the black people in Oakland. Why I'm sure about this, is because I was there!!!!

Na nah. They just was funny... but was forced to be competitive because blacks have to work 10 times harder in the US

I didn’t care about a Cosby/Pryor beef before seeing this. The way these “comedy hype” stories are packaged and presented makes me more interested in all things black! I love the way these stories are done. They share OUR modern history, that may seemingly be negative at times, and shine a POSITIVE light on them. Thank you and your team for your hard work!

I appreciate hearing these types of details about great entertainers such as these two. Whether its comedians, singers or back in the day singing groups it always seem to be that story that only one could be on top. Actually even now sadly it seems to not only still happen with comedians but also with some genres of music. There is room for all great talent.

I love them all. I must support my brothers. They are all unique and talented in their own way. Just comedic legends, Pryor, Cosby, Murphy

There always beef in comedy 🤣🤣🤣 and it's always between the greats. They clash because they are too similar in style or have a different view on how they can contribute to the industry which ironic because if they focus on just what works for them beef in comedy wouldn't exist but it's hella entertaining to watch.

If Comedy is the UNIVERSE. Richard Pryor is The Rising Sun. All other comedians are Planets of the solar System. I will always love Bill Cosby. (Bill is like the father who always gives life lessons. While Richard Pryor is the Uncle to break in down in street terminology!)

Stop it.. y'all don't know what Cosby did.. Cosby got done just like DeShaun Watson getting rail road now..cause they don't wanna do what "master" say.. period

@@marquemason7726 Thank you! Most young people in the 60's & 70's were experiencing 'free love' and drugs. Many of those women accusing Cosby were willing participants, party girls. Sixty-plus women don't keep their mouths closed for decades. At least one is going to go "run tell that" immediately to authorities.

I just think their styles completely different. I never compared the two once I got older . Just like I would never compare Sinbad to certain comedians that cursed in their stand up routines

Funny is funny. Many different ways to do it and one way is not better or more right than the other. Sinbad is one of my favorite comedians btw

I think over time it has been lost that on the comedy records Bill Cosby made there was two sides. One was for the whole family, then at the end of side A he would say for the parents to put the children to bed before listening to the other side. Side B was for the adults. I remember many a night listening to these great comedians on records. We had Redd Foxx too. I remember one line, "You've been riding on planes, you've been riding on trains (...) wash your ass." LOL! I miss those days. It is nice having so much at a click of the button. But actually looking through the record collection, pulling it out of the sleve and putting the needle on the record was so organic.

I LOVE Cosby. Regardless of his infidelity during his marriage - I love the fact that he didn't present that as role model material. His shows showed the way it SHOULD be. I LOVE the way he portrayed love for his wife as if she was the ONLY woman in the world. I wasn't a Pryor fan but I appreciate the fact that he was honest enough to decide to be himself.

Private lives and hypocrisy aside, both were geniuses and we needed them both. Bill was aspirational, Rich was fearlessly honest. They were like MLK and Malcolm X or Booker T Washington and W.E.B. Dubois. Different voices both speaking truth. They were both authentically black and communicating their world view as best they could, allowing for human frailty. We, and by we I mean to purposefully include our non-black brothers and sisters, need to hear them both to understand the times that they lived in and made jokes about. Do they speak for all black people? No, of course not. But you only have to listen for a little while to know that they ain't lying either.

Your content is great, but the audio levels on some of these videos are way too low. I'm watching on television and have to crank it way up, I would imagine anyone on the cellphone would have a hard time hearing it unless they were incompletely silent places
