100% agreed that every women has right to decide when she wants to have a child or if she even wants to have one. Also as you said, one cannot be fully sure if she will be able to conceive in her late 30s or early 40s. Medically it is highly suggested to have a child in late 20s or early 30s, as your body is at peak time of fertility & is fully prepared to conceive & provide all necessary nutrition to baby n mother. Risk is very less, chances of normal pregnancy & delivery are more (80-90%). But in late pregnancy, risk is more, chance of some sort problems to arise are more, not just fatal but other complications may also occur, which can be very dangerous for baby as well as mother. Also people only talk about how a women gave birth to a baby in her 40s but never try to know what she has to go through during that pregnancy, if there was any complication. They on scratch the surface but never even try to see what's beneath.

Fertility is a very charged yet sensitive topic. Yes medically there is a so called best age to have children but we need to understand that choosing to have kids is more than about the age of the pregnant woman/person. People want to be financially sound before having children or find the right partner. Sometimes these things can take their time. And more often, women are unfairly targeted for either having children too late or too soon. For late pregnancy, even some doctors are unsympathetic towards women and all kinds of stats are thrown at their faces. Conveniently leaving the fact that pregnancy risks with older male partners are just as bleak. Pregnancy with a male partner older than 35 comes with risks of placental defects and miscarriages. Here in US, almost 40-50% cases of second pregnancy related issues are attributed to male infertility. But only women and their bodies are the part of any fertility conversation, also shamed. Plus there are several young couples who face fertility issues. It is high time that our discussions around fertility and related topics become more open, nuanced, less targeting and shame inducing.

People have different tolerances and body compositions but there is nothing wrong in someone choosing to delay motherhood. I am at better equipped to give my children a better lifestyle now than when I was in my 20s. I didn’t ever want to rely on a man providing for me and my children. If I’d had my children in my 20s I’d have forever been dependent because my career wouldn’t stalled. Now I’m successful and can provide a comfortable life for my family.
