My mom knows a woman who had a home birth and the lady didn't have any contractions or anything she just felt the urge to push and so she called her midwife and got in her birth pool, and 20 mins later before the midwife even got there the baby was born. I'm due with my first in two weeks and i hope my experience is a good one. Either way i cant wait to see my baby boy!!

Yes the contractions don't have to be painful. However while the uterus is contracting the cervix is dilating. And the cervix has lots of nerve endings and when the cervix dilates it hurts! That is why the pain is very low in the back or belly or both. However the message to the brain is not "It hurts and it has to stop". Its a message to the labouring person that the cervix is dilating. This is important to know so she goes to a safe place - warm, no dangerous animals, persons to help her and more. If you didn't feel anything at all, you could give birth in the middle of the shopping center, while driving your car or climbing a ladder. That wouldn't be very safe! So pain makes birth safe. However, you can learn to cope with the pain so its not suffering. Unfortunately I've had several clients who has learnt through hypnobirthing that labour isn't painful and then have been totally unprepared for the pain and that has resulted in a very negative birth experience, severe fear of childbirth and post traumatic stress disorder. So please give the whole truth to people!

If I’d have known about this with my first labour i believe my experience wouldn’t have been so overwhelmingly negative and so painful that a year on I get an enormous amount of anxiety and panic thinking about it. Watching these videos is making me feel confident enough to have a second baby which until now sparked so much fear. We have all been programmed to think that birth is supposed to be the most painful thing in the world and I really think more pregnant women need to know about this and practice this.

Trying to watch and read as much as I can as I’m due in 3 days with number 2. I was totally shocked by the pain with my first, having contractions less than a minute apart for 2 days before actually giving birth. I was in absolute agony and simply cannot imagine giving birth without pain relief. However I’m intrigued as to how many women do manage. I am trying to do everything I can to ensure this labour goes better. Hopefully my contractions won’t be so close together for so long this time! I’m assured second time is quicker so this already makes me feel better. Most of my friends swear by Hypnobirthing so I’m hoping this will help. Thanks for making these videos x

I've birthed 5 babies vaginally with onset of natural labor. While I agree breathing and relaxation techniques are extremely helpful in helping a mom get through labor, I do not think it's true that it removes pain. Pain will still be experienced but the techniques will enable mom to get through it easier. I'm not sure that the brain interprets pain simply due to a lack of oxygen in birth. That seems like simply trying to brainwash ourselves into believing what we're feeling is not pain. I enjoy these videos and learn a lot from them but I know it is wishful thinking to convince ourselves we're not going to feel pain if we only do it right.

agree. there’s a lot we can do to reframe pain and how the brain interprets it, but i think this message sets up unrealistic expectations. I work with women postnatally and many of them feel another sense of failure because they “failed” to reframe pain during labour. i feel sad if extremely exhausted women are expending efforts during labour to tell their exhausted uterus muscle that it’s not in pain! why can’t we support women to feel that none of their feelings or experiences are wrong? why can’t we teach that it’s the suffering attached to pain that we can mitigate? using the breath to bring oxygen to the body is a wonderful idea, as well as the benefits of creating less adrenalin to the body ... but it’s not scientifically sound to suggest that calm and breath can bring the requisite oxygen to an area to 100% guarantee that we won’t interpret the feeling as pain. we’ve probably all “felt the burn” in intense exercise; endurance athletes know how it feels to go to the edge of what your body is capable of. pain is complex.

100% agreed. Pain is gain. Pain isnt always a result of something wrong and can be associated with something very right. We experience growing pains from childhood to adulthood etc. Pain is a huge part of life. I agree that breathing techniques can help get through and deal with the pain of our cervix stretching and dilating to allow a baby into this world but for most it wont take the pain completely away. It definately hasn't for me. I screamed my head off and was shaking at the end when the contractions were the hardest right before pushing for both my 2 kids.

My first two births were extremely painful...I did freak out a lot , was in a state because of the pain ...I’m now 6 months pregnant with my third baby and I really want this experience to be better than the last two! I’m planning to have a water birth , but I really don’t want to panic like I did last time! I don’t think I was breathing well at all - and what I can see from this this video is my bad breathing techniques contributed to having a very uncomfortable birth...so I will put these things into practice this time! Thanks for sharing ♥️

Hi. First I wanted to say thank you! Your videos are so positive and uplifting and I'm so glad I found this! 😍 I'm currently preparing for my 3rd birth in February and your videos are helping me so much to feel confident and relaxed, but there is one thing I'm still nervous about. (Just so you know and understand my situation the first birth was traumatic and ended in a c section, my second birth I tried using Hypnoberthing but I don't think I did it right and ended with an epidural so I didn't feel the actual birth) I understand that the breathing and relaxation help with the labour but I've heard the term "ring of fire" when the baby's head starts to come is this true? does Hypnoberthing help to ease that as well? I would be really grateful if you helped me with this so I can be more relaxed. Thanks again for all your hard work! I really appreciate it and hope my birth goes smoothly and easily. 😊

This knowledge base and skills teaching was great. Yet, I ask again, why the term "hypno"? This is practical teaching of knowledge and awareness, and physiological principles to consciously apply effective management skills. My previous 2 birth were intense and mostly pain-free, until I grow too exhausted or impatient. I realize that my exhaustion is due to not eating, sleeping, and drinking enough. My mind just don't think well about what I need through out the process. Now that I am aware, I know to emphasize to my supporters to frequently offer and suggest these things to me.

With the arm and hand demonstration, you just gave the reason as to why it wouldn't take too long to have to let go if you were hanging by nothing other than your arms and hands off a tree branch or something very similar to that. The blood rushing away from your hands causes you to lose oxygen. Eventually you cannot maintain your grip as the muscles become weaker, and this causes you to fall.

This video makes me more anxious about birth as the underlying message seems to be if you have pain you are doing something wrong which personally feels like a lot of pressure. Sure its not the intention and it's great to have tips but I do find a lot of the messaging around hupnobirthing has a lot guilt/shame with it if you don't do it "right".
@melissagonzalez674

Anxiety and fear around birth is largely what makes the brain internalize that something is wrong, rather than a natural process we are built to go through is taking place. If you feel pain it doesn’t mean you are actively doing anything wrong! Birth is more mental than it is physical really. The foundation of hypnobirthing, what it actually is, is letting go of all those mental constraints and entering a meditative state of deep relaxation and trust in our body, so that our body can birth as it needs to without us resisting physically and mentally. Western medicine has medicalized birth and movies have made it out to be such a scary and horrific thing so for many women, it does take some work to unlearn all of that misinformation, fear and stereotypes. Release any feelings of shame, any anxiety or fears and start building that trust in yourself and your baby through educating yourself as much as possible, practicing mindfulness and confronting that mental programming that’s not serving you. There’s a lot of meditations available on KZbin that help with this. Bridget Taylor has really really good and informative content centered around releasing fear and trusting that you’re built to birth. You’ve got this mama!

Flip side, i was terrified, but I didn't feel hardly any pain up to 6cm. At which point I felt like a nerve was being pinched and opted for an epidural. Within the hour she was born. I think it's more about staying calm than not fearing or oxygen levels.

Hi! The digital pack (£39) is our full hypnobirthing course (6+ hours of content) and includes mp3s to download, course notes booklet, birth preferences template and access to a private community for ongoing support and daily positive birth stories, plus a comprehensive infant feeding guide and new sound bath relaxation. The videos here on our KZbin channel cover the basics of hypnobirthing and act as introduction but certainly aren’t comparable to the value of the digital pack xx

Are you even kidding? As a 40 year labor and delivery room nurse, and certified Lamaze instructor, and mother, I have experienced and seen first hand that most women, despite Lamaze, Bradley, hypnosis or other various labor & delivery techniques, experience agonizing labors and deliveries. Why do you think epidurals were invented? In lieu of an epidural, all the breathing exercises do is keep you from screaming from the pain.
@alyssabrown6214
@alyssabrown6214 5 жыл бұрын
KSfan4ever This is good input and as you are a delivery room nurse, I’m sure you have witnessed a lot of women giving birth, but women here are most likely trying to experience a natural birth, without an epidural, as this is a channel on hypnobirthing. For people trying to gain reassurance and a positive outlook , this comment was kind of negative and uncalled for. Not to say you’re incorrect because many women can’t help but to have excruciating labor, but the way you put it was just a bit rude and had a negative attitude towards this woman. At least she’s trying to deliver a positive message. She’s sharing her own positive experiences and feelings hoping that it will help others.

I recently had a baby and I have to agree... We did everything right and I was so pumped for my natural home hypnobirth but had to have an emergency transfer .. no amount of breathing is gonna take away the pain of your lady parts tearing in 5 different places!!! Its a great tool to use to relax but hypnobirthing won't magically take the pain away ( except maybe for some people who would have had easy births anyway)

nope! its just not true i had a nightmarish 22 hour first labor (vbac) at home not knowing this info my next labor was of course shorter 5 hours but still quite painful, but after i learned relaxation/no tension = no fear, I was about to birth my next 2 babies in 4 hours with very little pain completely manageable and was fully recovered cooking cleaning and taking care of other children in 2 days! compare that to two weeks for my first child/c-section. the people you see in the hospital are generally speaking uneducated on this info, fearful to at least some degree and lamaze and bradley ( i have taken both) are not nearly as effective as hypnobirthing techniques either..
