The best way I found to show a white person is a monopoly game that in the game they don't get paid for the first 400 laps they do and can't buy anything but you can then when they get to the 400 lap you give them all the same rights as you have then you ask them if it's fair for you to say we got the same rights they need to just work harder

When I was growing up, the killings really didn’t start until it got hot, but now, it’s happens throughout the whole year. I was raised by my grandparents, along with my oldest sister and my twin sister. However, my father always lived in the heart of it all. He worked at the same place for over 40 years. He always made sure we were fully covered by his insurance. But those people are dying out. He was 81 years old when passed away this year and he used to walk everyday. He wasn’t afraid. And no one bothered him. He was never in a gang, or anything like that. But his name carried a lot of weight because he was respected.

I’m from Greenwood, MS. And someone is getting shot and/or killed every week. There is nothing in Greenwood. We have Viking Range plants(2), and Milwaukee Tools; these are the only two places where you can make decent money. And compared to the rest of the country, it’s not really a lot of money. There is a car plant about 45 minutes to an hour away, but you have to travel a ways to make that money. Our young generation hates themselves to the point of killing each other for nothing. I was raised on the outskirts of the town, because it’s really not large enough to be a city. I raised my children in the same subdivision I was raised in. When these guys get picked up by the law, they singing like Luther Vandross to stay out of jail. That’s the only money they see. Everyone is tough until they get caught.

I was raised in a home with two parents and my children were as well. This has made a huge difference in our lives. Even though there aren’t many opportunities here, it has not impacted our lives. So despite the obstacles here, you can still be successful here. Put your trust in God, and He’ll direct your path. My other siblings moved away, but someone had to stay here and take care of the family home. I was more than happy to be the one to stay here and do just that. Besides, my father was still here, and I couldn’t leave him here alone. Just proves that you can be successful anywhere.

I have seen more racism in other places that are worse than in Mississippi. My stepson, who was from Minnesota, brought one of his girlfriends down here with him, and she came down here looking for racism. I took them to the grocery store with me, and there was this elderly white woman who had a couple of groceries and we had a whole basket of groceries. In Mississippi, the one good thing we have is, we’re known as the hospitality state. People automatically associate Mississippi with racism, so we try to be hospitable. I let the elderly white woman go before us because she only had a couple of items. All of a sudden, the girlfriend started ranting about this ain’t slavery times and we don’t have to take this sh** anymore. So that’s how most people see Mississippi. Not saying that it doesn’t exist, but it’s nothing like people on the outside think. Nowadays, we have to worry about our own people taking us out. There was this old lady that stayed in the hood, and she sat in her house looking out her window everyday. There was a murder in that area. She didn’t go to the police or anything. No one even knows if she saw what happened or not. They murdered her in her own home.

I 100% agree with Don that education is the most important factor determining not just and individual’s success, but the success of a community. However I think it’s important to keep an open mind onto how communities like these ones get into such a dire state. Racism as the woman @ 23:25 points out is a big factor. Just a quick observation of a state like Mississippi’s past and the horrors committed upon black people is revolting. I believe now we are just seeing the result of the state’s successful (past) attempt at removing education from the Black community. These were actions taken long ago. Today we unfortunately still see similar attempts to remove educational opportunity from the lower class. With the soon to be administrations plans on dismantling of the Department of Education and the discontinuation of Federal Aid programs such as FASFA (designed to pay for poor students education should they be accepted to any university) it will be harder than ever for a person not already wealthy to go to college and obtain an education. These are all out in the open attempts at restricting education. While I do believe as Don does that education is the most important factor for one’s success, I believe that a good deal of discernment is necessary to determine who is trying to restrict education. Ps. “Use your education to determine who’s trying to restrict your education” Lokey cooked with that last one chat js came up with a fire quote 😂
@aidenperkins3024Ай бұрын
Also some food for thought but Black folks weren’t doing to bad after slavery and during Jim Crow (obviously negating the fact that there was segregation and racism), but they were well on there way to holding the same status as any white family would. Where the trickiness kicks in is with the cocaine epidemic during the Regan Era. It’s proven that the CIA funneled cocaine into Black communities, getting people hooked on drugs, and giving the police a good reason to heavily enforce and arrest tens of thousands of black people. This mass incarceration coupled with fathers being out of the home totally devastated thousands of black communities, with the effects of it still being seen today. My last comment is when you look at who were the ones perpetrating these acts and what they believed, it begins to paint a nasty picture of Black folks shouldn’t vote for, imo.
