Man, you made a great point when you said that you were afraid to live gratefully sometimes, because you sort of fear that the gratitude may precipitate some negative event. I felt that one. Elektrotehnik Hi there. It’s certainly not based on reason; it's more a negative mental thing, and it probably comes down to not feeling worthy on some level. Sometimes if I feel openly grateful for something, there’s a part of me that feels like that makes me more vulnerable to losing it. Sort of like a waiter thanking someone for leaving a large tip, and the customer then realizing that he left more than he intended, and now he wants some of his money back. The waiter should have kept his mouth shut about it. Not the greatest metaphor, but it’s close. 😁 Anyway, like I said, I still choose gratitude!

i understand 100% about almost fearing that shiz will go wrong, bc everything's going right. this is the best way to understand the need to always be grateful, from the heart. that also feeds that fear in a more positive way. when everything seems to be going right, when we know abundance is blessing us in whatever ways, always take a moment in the present, to just be thankful.

The freewill experiment is what we as spiritual beings are here to experience ,the possibilities the potential the successes the failings its how you spiritually progress and there is a wonderful energetic mechanism called karma to keep it all in balance ,ultimately we are all divine beings it's our birthright we can choose to go it alone and take on what life throws at you or you can choose to align and partner with the divine this is your freewill choice.we have all come to this earth plane as lightworkers some remember and follow their divine path others forget and succumb to old habits and previous karma from other lifetimes and get bogged down with negativity. As a light worker you have come here with good intentions to shine light into darkness and raise everyone up and heal negativity by doing so .This of course all sounds very pretentious but this is the test of faith we all face ,the long and short of it all is there is a predatory darkness in this world and it has brought a dysfunction to the human experience we have been genetically tampered with ,a separation has occurred in the subconscious layers the intuitive gateway has been compromised our connection to the divine realm has been weakened in many to the point they have no spiritual beliefs only a fear of the unknown and fear is a incompetent teacher promoted by the darkness which is a complete lack of love, the darkness fears the unity of human love this is why they use divide and conquer tactics to keep us fighting amongst ourselves the darkness feeds off this energy ,we need the divine realm to help us heal this perpetrator .

I've taken the five basic Buddhist precepts about 9 years ago, and have been practicing and learning ever since. And based on some of the ideas that I have come to realize as a result, there was something that jumped out at me in this video. It's the notion that there are spiritual people and non-spiritual people. Also, another notion that being spiritual is a choice. In reality everyone is on their own spiritual journey. It's just that some people haven't really opened their eyes yet. But in time everyone will open their eyes, whether in this life or the next, or the next (ya I guess that only makes sense if you believe in reincarnation, like me). I asked the Sunim (it's a Korean zen Buddhist temple, where I go, and "Sunim" just means Abbot, or Preist. He's a monk OK. An old wise one) at my temple how I might find the the path to enlightenment, because I was really new and kind of really screwed up with severe emotional problems, PTSD, and a pretty nasty long term heroin addiction that I hoped to get rid of before it, you know, killed me. His reply to me was a quote from another venerable monk whose famous Chinese name eludes me, and which I could never pronounce anyway: "your circumstances are the path", he said. When I heard that and thought to apply it to my circumstances, and knowing what my circumstances where, I understood then that everyone no matter how anti-spiritual, or how far away from being a conscious spiritual person, is already on the path. Some just don't realize it yet. But they will. Some time. And for those of you who have a problem with Buddhism (probably because you have no real idea about what it actually is) I want to say, that I certainly don't mean to indicate that because it came from the mouth of a Buddhist monk that it is the truth. It's more like the truth happened to come from the mouth of a Buddhist monk. Ok there, I'm done.

You just reminded me to come up with reasons why I ought to be grateful for the imminent celebration of Thanksgiving, instead of feeling sorry for myself that I don't live near enough to my family of origin to have the meal with them. At least I do have some friends that I met in church who have invited me to eat dinner at their house (& will no doubt send me home with leftovers in plastic containers, which is one of the best parts), it does make me reflect on how this holiday came about, and what ended up happening to the Native Americans who originally helped the first white settlers survive the winter months by showing them how to prepare different foods.

I understand that this video was intended to be helpful, but when I compare the great injustices of our world with the spiritual path, I can now see that spirituality is an attempt to free yourself from being self absorbed by becoming more self absorbed. There's a world outside your head where our actions can truly make this world a better place to live, it's not always about turning inwards and looking for solace within.

A LOT of depression is due to people not wanting to contribute to the world in the state that it's in. A LOT of people think there's more to life than simply earning enough and raising their own family and dying, which is what most people do. People that do not believe in force ever, implied, in return, or in self defense, and yet there are so many that believe and work in force. People that believe all wars are wrong, all current ones are wrong, that no one need be sacrificed ever for any reason. For many people, they need to "overcome" the world first (or their past, trauma, etc. Many people who suffer the most have allowed others to cause it) before they can start to be the change that would make it better.

Being is the most difficult to navigate because people don't want to understand is being determined to be a self is simply being. Being an Ambassador was demonstrated at the inquiry Marie Yonovich was being herself in her job, and put down for "being" and she received applause for being herself. Nothing is wrong with "being who you are". You could interview her? We might learn a lot from her experiences. Listening harder is hard for those who can't hear, even though they have heard.

I don't need a spirit to be compassionate for all beings and have empathy for all beings. I have positive relationships and a purpose in life. In fact, I think I have everything you claim one needs to be spiritual to have. One only needs to be conscious., and consciousness is what we are. One does not need superstition. Be kind to yourself Russell, and free yourself from this superstitious construct you are imprisoning yourself in.

I think in general I would agree that spiritual people tend to look at things different, but the term spiritual is a loaded word. I find people who claim to be spiritual are often less empathetic than they realize, they latch on to spirituality as in escape from their own minds. Sometimes it can lead people away from the truth, when they tried to bottle up negative emotions inside so they can fit an image in their own minds. An example of how this can go wrong is when people learn to appreciate and be grateful for everything in life, except for other humans that don't share their values. Such as vegans berating meat eaters, or insulting others that don't believe as they do. They can lead down the same path of self-righteousness. True spirituality has nothing to do with belief or even understanding, it's just acceptance.... that we really don't know. But that we are here, and we know how we feel in our heart. Treating people with respect should be a basic human trait

I been thinking after all I have learned by watching utube for a short period of time is nothing is ever mentioned to the viewers about taking responsibility for the choices that they make like, drinking, drugs etc and blaming anyone else but themselves for the way their lives have turned out…as the pendulum swings Russell you go from awakenings to riots…so I noticed you swing from fear to fearless..interesting observation…and the people either want to live, laugh love or riot, angry tear the joint down blame the bad guys…but it’s all a choice to own your choices regardless of a world that evolves around money and some got it and they have everything to lose and some don’t nothing to lose but life…so after decades exploring, dying and death and finding a way out of this world…I’ve decided I’m Done and I’m not dwelling on death no more no matter how imminent it may appear…I’ve always said we do what we do until we’re doing something different in terms if this world ever ends we would all be doing something different and it don’t so I’m going off to live don’t know bout the rest of you but I been looking out my window for near a decade and guess what nothing changes so living it is….it’s time to turn the button off and go with things that are real…💚 for my love is a red red rose that blossoms in the moonlight and I think I still got room for another hundred lives before I’m outta here for good…🌹

I deeply love all my spiritual friends, and I wouldn't dream of telling them to not follow the spiritual path that they do, however it should definitely be noted that each and every point you make here is something that can be obtained without spirituality through processes like mind and body meditations, mindfullness techniques, etc. even without spiritual underpinnings.

Guapo Desperado just throwing it out there, none of the things you listed are seperate from spirituallity, its not belief in a higher power or something, more like thoughtfullness and mindfulness. As i understand it. Dont let religion steal the idea.

@@tristanschell1932 well it definitely depends on semantics, I agree. "Spiritual" as an adjective is defined as 1) relating to an incorporeal or spirit essence; 2) of or relating to sacred matters; 3) concerning religious values. The 1st and 3rd definitions were what my comment is aimed at. Not that those are wrong if that works for folks, but as an agnostic I really don't believe or disbelieve in any incorporeal soul or diety or whatnot. With no way of knowing those truths why get hung up on any of it? As for the 2nd definition, that spiritualism could be seen as relating to sacred matters, I guess that could incompass practices that lead to mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing which do not rely on incorporeal objects or entities. It just seems to me that most folks, Russell included, that speak of spirituality, are generally using the 1st or 3rd definition and if they do imply the 2nd they are still tieing that "sacredness" to some incorporeal concept. My point was simply that there is no need to involve or believe in any type of incorporeal stuff in order to ahieve all the wonderful stuff he discussed.

To me, it's empathy, without it one may as well be the stone. All life is one no matter how small. It's very nature is holy, wether or not there religious connotations. I spend a lot of time walking among the trees and when my time is up it's where my ashes will rest. If society loses sight of these wonders and i fear it is, It is the children that will be disconnected, they will not pass sacred knowledge on because it is lost to them, not available on 'smart' devices. The chain will be broken. Bless you Rusty for trying to make a difference. #namaste

with each day that I live more and more I am certain that there is not point in spirituality, you can't make yourself believe anything you don't believe. so, I am not going to becoming spiritual any time soon. and it is not even about if there is a higher power out there it is about whether we believe in it, if we do, it exists. but I can't make myself believe in something that feels so deeply, intuitively wrong.

One of the oldest forms of yoga is called raja yoga sorry if I've butchered the name but apparently it's about 15 thousand years old from India, it doesn't involve any stretching or meditation I simply means to become a raga yogi you must live a moral and just life at peace with yourself, could you imagine a world wild society that practices this, we would pour love and compassion over everything and no more wars or hunger, but people take time to come to the point to accept now is the right time to change and it works watch your inner flower bloom

I think one of the great injustices of current psychology is the concept of "integrating the shadow" when the solution to much of the world is rather overcoming the shadow. This is a HUGE mistake that needs to be rectified. You have to believe and be what you want to see in the world. We are given free will so we can learn and overcome our errors and guess what happens to darkness once you introduce the light... Peace begins with you.

Being spiritual is way more overrated than people tend to assume or learn incorrectly. Its hard to stay on a path that everyone else defines is the only right way and punishes u for wandering off, but when you accept that you dont have ti stay in a fishbowl and theres a whole ocean to explore somehow you begin to awaken to your own ability that was there the entire time and it feels SO much better to be free ❤

The teaching of “spirituality” not only separates us from each other, but tragically, it separates us from ourselves, because theologians taught and teach that the best part of our spirits are not with us, but rather, belong to the creator of the universe, and that we will be either judged as being worthy of salvation, or will have to suffer for eternity, depending on how the creator “feels” about out systems of belief, and our performances. From my perspective, we have two choices. We can either believe that the universe was created by an entity that designed extreme suffering and extreme judgment as part of its plan ... or, we can believe (as did Stephen Hawking, before he died) that the universe always existed, and will always exist ... no creator or
