That "voice" in my head has kept me alive and sane my whole life. It ties into intuition as well. That "voice" is how great music, poems, theroies and art, and inventions have come to be. The key is knowing the difference from a disruptive thought from a healthy one.

Art comes from a deeper place than thought, when you're "in the zone" there's no thinking involved. But sure, we should totally use our mind for math and creation of things, that's why we have it. the problem with the mind is that if not used properly, it will ruin your life

Thank you for sharing this excerpt! What Michael Singer is talking about reminds me of some basic yogic principles and I wanted to share a few reflections. The mind can flip from attachment to something or someone to aversion to something or someone, and this gets linked to our sense of happiness or unhappiness. I like and want that person or thing...if I have it then I feel happy, if I don't, I'm miserable. If I don't like something or someone then if I can stay away from it I am happy, but if I have to put up with it I am miserable. This is how we externalise our inner balance and will always end up feeling at the mercy of outer circumstances or events. How do we get out of this?!! One proposal in the yogic system is to practice cultivating sukha (comfort) in the dukha (discomfort) of everyday experience. When we sit cross-legged for meditation, this is called sukhasana in Sanskrit - which literally translates to comfort or ease (sukha) in our state of being (asana). But if, like me, you've ever tried to s8t cross-legged for any length of time it is anything BUT comfortable! Instead of sukha we experience dukha or discomfort. The invitation is to learn how to sit with that discomfort and remain at ease. This practice then helps us in everyday life because we are constantly encountering things that irritate or bother us. But if we have cultivated the capacity to be a bit more at ease with that discomfort, we can calm those inner fluctuations and feel more equanimity. This improves our own personal well being on all levels as well as our relationships...and who can say they don't want that?! For everyone out there working on this I salute you!

I just finished Singer’s “doing the real work to free yourself’ before watching your video and I’ve gotten some very good tools to carry with me on my journey to my inner healing and finding inner peace. Singer uses a great analogy to explain the roadblocks we have in our minds and explains it so that it’s almost visual. You can easily visualize what he means. The thoughts in our minds are just road blocks to our highest self, our God, our spirituality, these same roadblocks keep us bound to the uneasy feeling of unhappiness, it can ruin relationships. I have the hardest time controlling my thoughts and not turn around and cover my environment with the same negative energy inside of my mind has. This is a great video, I appreciate it ❤️

@@skynet4496 Well, first off I'm not an expert in the subject so I have to tentatively and provisionally rely on the advice from the actual experts who I am more reasonably justified in believing have a better grasp on the situation than you and your "common sense." This is just a fact and this wouldn't change Irregardless of my ability or inability to articulate or defend my specific views on this topic. You know the guys and girls the whole world over who actually study this day in and day out, publish peer reviewed papers and who actually know what they're talking about? Yeah, my opinions aren't equal to theirs and neither are yours. Our intuitions about what's obviously "common sense" change as we become more knowledgeable on a specific topic. This applies to everything from health and medicine to the economy and everything in between. The fact of the matter is is that currently the scientific consensus is that lockdowns and masks do actually help this is why countries the world over are engaging in said lockdowns and mask wearing rules and why they're desperately trying to find a fine balance between not destroying their economy whilst still restricting and slowing the spread of the virus, all be it to varying degrees of competency. As far as I can tell the majority scientific consensus is that vaccines help to reduce the chance of people getting sick and using up valuable medical resources and that they also help reduce the chances of you passing on the disease to others. Vaccines are the reason we no longer have a whole host of illnesses today which once plagued humanity, the scientists aren't all quacks in on some perfect conspiracy theory. How do you know how your immune system will respond to covid until you've had it? If you've had it how do you know you won't contract another variant and end up in hospital? The issue with you people is you suffer from a major case of the Dunning Kruger effect. The difference between me and you is I don't pretend to be a qualified expert with perfect knowledge. Not all opinions are equally valid I'm afraid. If you have compelling evidence that all the scientists are wrong then present your evidence and get your Nobel prize. Should be easy work if it's as simple and obvious as you believe it to be. Yes, I'm just a sheep for not believing in claims people make until we have sufficient evidence to believe those claims. You sound like me when I was 14 years old. I'm going to hazard a guess and say you're a right winger, possibly American? I apologize if this doesn't apply to you but I'll say it anyway. All this drivel about "bowing to your masters" and believing in conspiracy dog shit is just embarrassing. You and your religious nutcase clown show cult are constantly advertising your stupidity to the world. It isn't brave, it isn't clever it's just embarrassing and quite frankly I'm sick of you people. I'm not bowing to anybody, I'm open to the science and advice changing and progressing as time goes on, that's the nature of science.

Nonduality, 60,000 thoughts a day. Practical steps are needed. Detox the mind. Reduce negative thoughts with a simple practice. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety. For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back straight, eyes closed, be as still as possible and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight with your thoughts. Slowly the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Anytime of the day or night before sleep sit or lie down on your back and observe your breath. Stillness brings internal peace. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Best wishes Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.

What a beautiful video! I've been observing myself for months now and I've reached basically the same realization, that voice, the thoughts that come up, the intensity with which they come, that isn't me, I'm just the awareness that perceives them. @@richmac6345 not really, at least not classic meditation. To me these realizations came upon close study of my own self. What thoughts arise at what time and with what occasion? What states arise and are controlling me and what events in the recent and far past are they connected to? Those are the questions that bring awareness, meditation is simply a tool to allow these questions and answers to exist if the current conscious is overwhelmed.

It was the first step in recognising the prison of the mind. I’m so grateful you are sharing your wisdom and the wisdom of kindred souls like Michael Singer, Eckhart Tolle, Ram Dass and many others - to the world on your platform. I AM so ecstatic to see this YT channel!! I have shared it on my SM! I must Testify now! *your anticipated patience is much appreciated*! I, like you Russell, evolved partly via my foray into drugs. Mine only different in that I was 40 years old when I picked up the addiction. It ended up being an 18 year addiction. The last 8 or so I spent clawing, scratching, biting and climbing out of that pit of toxicity! I AM FREE! However, the last 3 years I began, at first, having thoughts that were totally foreign to me! At first, I thought I was losing my sanity. After some months in that state, I then had what I know was my first "dark night of the soul". At that point, I actually checked the obituaries for the past weeks because I thought I had died and didn't realize it. 😂 Yes, now I can look back and laugh! FF to today. Once my body was no longer toxic, I could put into action all I had learned! Spiritually/Consciously, I've been in hyper speed! YOU, Russell! You were there for me thru much of it! And I hadn't even discovered this YT channel yet! Much, much gratitude for you! I knew intuitively long ago that you were to play an enormous part in assisting humanity in the Awakening process!! Much Love!! #LoveandLight PS I am commenting under my 20 year old sons account. (longer story). I AM a 58 year old woman named Melody. 😆

Dude! I love you, Russell Brand. Excellent smile, I must say. Shine on! I'm in Florida and learned of Michael Singer 2.5 weeks ago for the first time. Within a few moments listening to him on Mayim Bialik I was uplifted, able to step away from 'the noise'..., if only momentarily, but I did it. The past two Sundays, I attended Sunday service at Michaels' Temple of the Universe. This 7/24, I was THRILLED to hear that you two talked. I got home Sunday afternoon to Palm Coast and listened, then found this ten-minute chat today too. (You brilliant, cheeky, recover-er you!) That knowing smile you twinkled! So... thank you for SO much. Keep sharing, smiling, going on, thinking, being. (I can follow you better when you talk slow, like this particular video - yet I hear ya lil' bro, I hear ya.) Oh! And do permit the musings of an aging flirt, who does daresay that nigh-on 63-years-old "I want a 'Liz Smith' moment from you," like she got on that 60 Minutes interview when you laid a surprise kiss on her... (with all due respect to your wife,) good man. LOL! That was massive! Loved it, (she did too - says the Heyoka empath in me,) love you. Bedtime Stories is a way too hidden a treasure of a movie not enough people have seen, I do declare.

Russell thank you for this channel, its helping me a lot these daily meditations and Mantras . I know you a little, you was my neighbour in Bury St Edmunds when you stayed with Chip. I lived across the road from chips. We spoke when you was outside. You have done amazing in your recovery and now you are using the gifts you have and giving back to help others. I'm very proud of you and all your achievements Russell. The blond lady., not so blond now going a bit grey.

I've recently found Michael's work and it's blown me away. I'm gonna continue with it. The challenge I have with it is that I've been following(and will continue with) Tara Brach and others who emphasise self compassion. I know the voice in the head is not the true self, but I'm afraid of creating a split self, wherein one ignores valid(and to be looked after for sanity's sake) psychological matters that need attention.

How's it going for ya? I totally understand what you mean. On my own "spiritual" journey I got kind of lost because I didn't know how to relate to my mind and if/how much I should listen to it. But now I have learned that cultivating a higher mind is something worth doing, because a higher mind can take better decisions and see things more clearly! My "self" can still observe this mind yadayada - but I found out it is better to live with a higher mind that is compassionate to oneself, than a mind that is always belittling oneself or talking trash to oneself! You see my point? There's no way I'm ever getting rid of my mind, so I rather have a compassionate and kind mind that can help me in making decisions and help me take good action in the world. :)

And I only listened to this excerpt - so I'm DEFINITELY going to listen to the full interview this weekend! I find I like to listen really intently and really need to set the special time aside so I can rewind and re-listen... Mostly cuz that little voice in me 'ed tells me to! Hahahaha! You ROCK and so does Michael Singer!! Must read his books! ♥️🙏🧘‍♀️

I have found illumination & relief from the relentless mind using Sadhguru's Isha Kriya meditation. I am not my body-breathing n. I am not even the mind. Breathing out. 12 minutes of non stop repeating, enables space for the sweetness of one's essence to be felt/evident. Then 7 ahhh's, followed by 7 minutes of listening to sound or music.

I am currently in a paralyzed state where I can't stop talking to myself in my head and it's very negative to the point where I've isolated from all my family and friends. I am going to be 58 and I feel like I've wasted my life that is a huge factor that is holding on to me not letting me get back to socializing and enjoying the journey; one would think it would be the opposite and I would be calling and reaching out to former friends but I do not???? I like what he's talking about I want to hear more you have a lot of very cool content on this you tube channel. Thank you for making these helpful videos.

Absolutely enlightening. I am at that point right now where I feel crippled during socializing. I am so self conscious, because of this non-stop voice in my head, that I am unable to participate in life. Russell, can you please cover this topic in greater detail? Everyone just tells you to be confident and be secure etc but those are all superficial fixes. No one talks about how to nip it in the bud so that your inner light can shine.

My therapist taught me this about "head wisdom": my head is trying to keep me safe. All those thoughts coming into my mind are a result of that one thing. If I can recognize the thoughts as a loving mind trying to keep me from harm, I can smile and send those thoughts out into the ether. They visit but don't stay, and increasingly I'm able to avoid having most of these anxious thoughts at all.

There are so so much more going in than what our eyes can perceive. This is the reason why our skin is the biggest organ. The hairs are receptors that help us to understand our environment. To shut this down is to sever ourselves from utilising and understanding our higher self - who can see so farther than our eyes can. We need to harness this human divine essence not to ignore it or shut it down!

Great that Michael had this experience and I'm listening to the Untethered Soul and then the surrender project but how many people who study and apply themselves also aquire this perspective? I'm desperate to achieve this myself as I've never been happy as I'm unable to like or love anyone so I'm always alone. Thankfully I'm finally discovering how to be happy on my own... Russell?
