I was a mouth breather for many years due to chronic hay fever. Have been doing the nasal breathing for a couple of weeks. Think I am sleeping better than I have ever done, although to be fair I didn’t sleep badly. Notice I am more focussed on what is going on now and feel mentally sharper and I am in my eighties. Never too late to learn.

Try using steam! Boil water and pour into a bowl. Get a towel and place on the back of your head and over the bowl, creating an enclosed area and see the steam can help open up your pathways. Cheers

You need to fix the block First. Believe me. It's changed me for the Better. I don't snore any more. I feel more energised. My eyes aren't sticky in the morning. Nose breathing filters and warms the air. It gives us the amount of air we need. It is good for teeth health too. No bacterial gets in

When meditating or training; Why do they always say to breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth? Why isn't it the other way around? My sinuses always get super dry if breathing that way (and to be honest even when only doing nose breathing) so I've always breathed in through the mouth and out through the nose.

I've always breathed through my mouth because I thought it was better. I have low RBC's and feel fatigued often. I wonder if breathing through my nose could help with this?
@ButeykoClinicInternational Жыл бұрын
Hi @thinkblue8089 We do NOT believe that breathing through the mouth is better. In fact there is a lot of scientific evidence to suggest that is one of the major health issues facing us today. Mouth breathing contributes to worsening asthma, sleep apnea, concentration, focus and much more. Mouth breathing at night can contribute to lowered cognitive function and can negatively affect sleep patterns contributing to fatigue. Nose breathing can help improve blood oxygen levels, mood, reduce fatigue and asthma symptoms to name just a few.

Sinus surgery and procedures are necessary for some people---but it is serious and risky business. Any doctor that truly cares about the patient's well-being will try EVERYTHING else before surgery. You could end up with terrible complications, such as Trigeminal Neuralgia or nerve damage. Do research. Make sure you have really weighed all the options before committing to surgery. The nasal turbinates are an especially dangerous area, as damage to that area can cause Empty Nose Syndrome, which can make the person feel as if they are suffocating.

Hi Adam, we have never found this correlation between slow breathing and laziness / procrastination. This is not something we have come across before, and we don’t think the two can be linked. You may experience feelings of relaxation, however, as the para sympathetic system is activated.

Don't worry be happy. If you want to research and consult expert advice and training .. There are ways of significantly RESTORING the natural function which may have atrophied.
@Cassie033 жыл бұрын
You could start with taping your mouth shut for periods of time to force yourself to nose-breathe, eventually leading to taping your mouth shut at night, which will help you sleep so much better! The more you force your body to do it, the more your body will get used to to it and do it automatically. 🙂

It's hard at first, but as days go by, your nose adapts very quickly and you become far more efficient at taking in oxygen. And it's a fact that you do take in higher quality oxygen through your nose, even taking account that it's possible to get more air through your mouth.

Other than ppl who have a condition preventing breathing through the nose I've always assumed nose breathing was common sense. I mean honestly. Isn't being called a mouth breather an insult intended to indicate a lack of Intelligence? As a child I always kept my mouth closed when there was a bad smell. My thinking was that if it has a bad smell the last thing I want is to taste it.
@ButeykoClinicInternational3 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes all that you have written makes sense. By breathing through the mouth: there are no functions of mouth in terms of breathing (there is no filtration, there is very little Nitric Oxide, there is very little humidification, very little warming) - your mouth is not for breathing and it’s not for breathing during physical exercise either. On the other hand, when you breathe through your nose - the oxygen uptake in the blood is about 10% higher, when you are breathing through your nose your mind is calmer, and even athletes who breathe through their nose during physical exercises, they are more likely to enter the flow state).
