As a plumber, the one sound that freaks me out every time is when I am filling the waste lines for test and someone in the structure (another trade on another floor) starts shouting something incoherent. I automatically think that something had blown open & water is gushing out. Gets me every time.

I learned the building business from my Grandfather. A full speed 100% of the time hard as nails ww2 era Marine. When we could hear the concrete truck arriving he became all that X10 and you better keep up! Thirty years later I'm running the show, we sub out all concrete, and I still get a shiver and break a sweat when "CONCRETE'S COMING!!" And yeah customers never call after hours on the weekend to tell you everything is perfect and they don't want to change anything.

I do water mitigation for a living and water is a serious power house. Currently doing a job where the customer was out of town and her sump pump failed. She came home to 4 feet of water. Pro tip to anyone reading this if you are going to instal shelving units don’t use wood. Also spend the extra money on nice quality containers to store stuff in to keep everything dry. This is of corse for people who have basements.

A good friend had just finished nailing down the roof decking on a new house he was building and he saw a fella parked on the side of the street for the last few hours watching them after a while the guy came up and said that sure is a fine house y’all are build, my friend said why thank you sir, then man said there’s just one problem it’s on my lot he was in shock sure enough he was one lot over by law in Texas the man could’ve taken the house but he was kind and after some paperwork changed lots with him needlessly say I triple check every time I build in a subdivision LOL

" I wondered if you could 'just'.... "It'll only take a few minutes..." My worst non-favourite things I want to hear. Leaking plumbing? I ALWAYS put isolators along every line, & test each section as I go along & leave it pressured up. Misunderstandings? I ALWAYS carry a notebook & record all conversations, any snags, whatever. And I ALWAYS agree on payment details & dates, write them down in front of the customer, and get payment in stages. No further work until the previous stage is paid for. Mind you, I live in a small town, and most people are just so grateful to get work done, done well & tidily, that they are only too grateful to pay up - and then refer me to other nice customers.

1: Plumber forgot to put nail guard on his copper run going to the kitchen. Sheetrock was hung, house was finished , water turned on and kitchen flooded from the ceiling because a nail punctured the pipe at every joist. 2: Cleaning up after the drywall crew. The mud buckets became toilets.

Something that scare me a lot is when u r home it start raining and you don’t remember if u close all the windows, next thing is leaving the compressor plug ... a leaky compressor Tanya in the middle of the night it will wake up everybody else and will get u I’m trouble the next morning. Least but not last when u hit a line with a nail, we always try to work with the water running and the electricity just in case but u missed cause the music is too loud and or u don’t notice until the people In the apt bellow come to complaint @ the water in their ceiling....also during demo going to neighbors apt by accident or ceiling( in building where everything is concrete u have to dig the waste lines to change tubs and so on... anyways that’s a building builders nightmares ! I manage rental property, and what I hate is to to see a tenant's phone number pop up on my cell phone on a Friday afternoon. Nearly 99% of the time they tell me it's a problem that they learned about on the preceding Wednesday, but they figured they would wait and see if it fixed itself. It's usually plumbing or HVAC-related. So, they call me on Friday around 5:30 pm -- when there is no way in hell I can get anyone to fix it that night. Thankfully, I have a saint of a plumber who lives within a mile of most of the properties. I once called him on a Sunday afternoon, and he showed up within 20 minutes. I felt really bad because he had just sat down to drink a beer and watch a golf tournament. He loves golf, and I love him.

Omg So true about pressure/ leak testing supply lines for the first time. Even more so that turning on a main panel after wiring in circuits. I remember an office building remodel I was on. First somebody forgot to disconnect/ cap off the power to the area we were in, so a cable got cut and knocked out the power to the buildings computer data base ...the secretaries were pissed. Then one day after hours a newbie accidentally broke a pressurized copper pipe and didn't tell anyone until someone called up the superintendent because there was a lake flooding everything out. Hahaha I'm lovin it
