Your comment about wishing for a delay for a later arrival matches mine when I take Amtrak's Sunset Limited into Los Angeles. Scheduled arrival is 0530. I'm actually glad for a delayed arrival. But not five hours, as on two occasions. Didn't hurt me because I wasn't going out until the next day, but several passengers were booked on the same-day Coast Starlight, and had to be bussed all day to catch up with their train. Ugh.

BDZ needs massive renovation, that is decades overdue. I haven't been using trains for the last 10-15 yrs and I don't plan to, unless I see enough progress is made, especially in terms of Safety! Unfortunately, there have been a lot of severe accidents with Bulgarian trains, and a lot of people lost their lives, their homes or were severely injured. I don't consider BDZ to be capable of offering a safe travel and I must say it. If you use it, it's at your own risk. Just looking at the graffiti on the train cars tells me - not enough progress have been made so far, although I see some improvement in the video. And the price is high - 66 BGN is a lot - and it takes double the time, compared to travel by bus or car. I love trains and would love to see the company renovate and bring their services to 21st century standards, but for the moment I really can't recommend using BDZ.
@kirokirov-lu8csАй бұрын
It's great that you like , but in the 80s, BDZ was better than now. Now there are many fewer stations and lines. It's a pity, but nothing has been done for 40 years, everything is the same

Currently not. The Belgrade-Sofia train stopped around 2020. Hopefully it will return in a few years when track reconstruction between Nis and Sofia is complete. There is a Sofia-Istanbul night train via Plovdiv.
@matematika10002 ай бұрын
Currently the line between Nis and the border with Bulgaria is under construction and should be finished in 2 or three years. The reconstruction between Belgrade and Nis is supposed to start soon and become a high speed line around 2028, because it's in a bad and slow condition right now.

BDZ is a highly corrupt and terribly mismanaged company, only kept afloat by a handful of dedicated employees who love their jobs (though the vast majority of employees does not care one bit). A lot of the network hasn't been upgraded or adapted to modern standards. Having grafitti on the trains is the least of the problems. My father has showed me videos of lose tracks he's seen where the track is not properly attached to the wood below, to name as an example. So yeah, it is pretty bad.
